Gavin Reilly: Over the moon to hit 20 goals

Gavin Reilly admits Saturday's match away to Dumbarton will be tough.

The Buddies travel to The Your Radio 103FM Stadium this weekend looking to continue their good run of form that has seen them move six points clear of Dundee United at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship.

And the striker, who netted his 20th goal of the season in last Saturday's 1-0 win over Inverness, confessed that playing Dumbarton is always difficult.

But after a 2-0 win away to The Sons in October, along with the recent run of good form, he's confident the side will be up for the challenge.

Speaking to Buddievision after the Inverness win, Reilly said: "We have beaten them before there and I think that was the first time St Mirren had beaten them there in so many years.

It's a hard place to go, especially when it's windy because it is one of the windiest places ever.

"But we'll go into the game fresh and will be back to our normal week after a busy Christmas schedule.

"We'll come in, we'll train well this week and look forward to Saturday."

St Mirren are unbeaten in their last six league matches with five wins in that period since, ironically, losing 1-0 to Dumbarton at the Paisley 2021 Stadium at the start of December.

Reilly believes that form shows the side have grown as a unit since the defeat to The Sons.

I think the game we lost against Dumbarton was another week where we had three games in the one week.

"It shows that we have grown, we've matured and become more resilient to then go three games in a week again and take seven points from nine.

"We are getting stronger, we are getting better every week so we just need to keep going and keep chalking off the games as they come."

The 24 year-old scored his 10th goal in St Mirren colours in the last trip to Dumbarton back in October.

His first half winner against Inverness on Saturday saw him take his tally for the season so far to 20.

He admitted he is delighted with that return and with 15 league games still to go his focus is on adding to that tally.

"That's 20 goals in January I'm absolutely over the moon about that.

"There's still a long way to go this season so I'm just aiming to keep going into every game and hopefully scoring more.

"I'm delighted but it's more important for another three points on the board. With United getting beaten it’s another massive step forward for us."
