Cody Cooke says morale is high at St Mirren

Cody Cooke says morale is high at St Mirren following recent good results on the road.

The Buddies have taken two points from difficult trips away to Aberdeen and Hearts in the last two weeks - drawing 2-2 at Pittodrie and 1-1 at Tynecastle.

Cody believes there has been a noticeable change in spirits within the dressing room over recent weeks despite Saints' position in the league.

And he says he is hopeful that everything is coming together at the right time ahead of the final stretch of the season.

The two points over the last two weeks have been big for morale and you can tell the place has picked up in terms of spirit.

"Those all important games are coming up where we need to pick up points and start climbing up the table.

"It is a difficult task and a difficult environment when you are down at the bottom of the league. It's about making sure we come together as a group, make sure morale is high and we keep ticking them games off and try to gain points.

"The change in atmosphere at the training ground today compared to three, four, five weeks ago is massive and I think that togetherness in terms of the new boys is getting there.

"Hopefully it will come together at the right time. There are a lot of points to play for and a lot of points that we can gain between now and the end of the season."

The English forward returned to the squad as an unused substitute in Saturday's draw against Hearts after several weeks on the sidelines due to injury.

While it has been a frustrating time for him having nabbed his first Saints goal in a win over Alloa last month before being ruled out with injury, the 25 year-old believes the timing for his return has worked out well as he aims to play his part with 11 matches remaining of the Premiership season.

Yeah it's been difficult," he said.

"It's been an achilles issue that has been difficult to manage in terms of when to train and when to pull out.

"Obviously it's been frustrating but it was really good to be back in the squad in Saturday. Hopefully I can play my part in the run-in as we get these games ticked off.

"That was probably the most frustrating thing, coming at a time when I really thought I was pushing for a starting place.

"These are the ups and downs that come along with playing football. You have got to get over them and make sure you are doing everything you can to help the team. And then, when your opportunity comes, just take it and play your part as you can."

Cody joined the club from English National League South side Truro City in the summer and admitted it was always going to be a big adjustment for him stepping up to full-time football.

But he feels he has learned a lot over the last few months and hopes to keep himself in the fold until the end of the season.

It was always going to be a big task and I think the injury side has been frustrating for me. Whenever I feel like I am just about to get in and make a mark I am coming out with injury. It was going to take a while for my body to adapt to a full time environment.

"I've learnt a lot about myself and I think I have overcome now. I just have to keep myself fit until the end of the season now and make sure I do my part for the boys."
