Diarmuid O'Carroll highlights importance of next four matches

Diarmuid O'Carroll highlighted the importance of the next four matches if St Mirren are to have a successful end to the season.

Saints have just five league matches remaining before the cinch Premiership split - starting with Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium tomorrow.

The Irishman - who joined the club as assistant to Stephen Robinson - says a target has been set as they look to clinch a first-ever top six spot for Saints in the current league set-up.

The management duo are looking for their first win at Saints after defeats against Hearts and Celtic in the previous two matches.

We’ve come in at a massive point in the season," Diarmuid said speaking to the press.

"Obviously for ourselves personally we came in and had two very hard games.

"Hearts was at home, but the sending off killed it a little bit for us.

"At Celtic we were predominantly out of possession but we did quite well in terms of off the ball.

"Now we’ve got four games to target and really get after.

"We’ve had a little bit more time to work with the lads on the training ground now and spirits are high. Since the Christmas break they’ve had a good run. Pre-Christmas they were on a tough run.

"We have a very clear target for the next three or four games.

"If we get a set amount of points then we can turn this into a very successful season very quickly."

It's been a non-stop start for Diarmuid and the manager since replacing Jim Goodwin and Lee Sharp at Saints just last week.

The 34-year-old has been happy with what he's seen at the club so far, but admits they are looking to build upon the foundations in place.

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind with the way we left Morecambe and the timeline with the games, and fling in a bit of snow as well.

"But it’s been brilliant, I’ve been impressed with the facilities and the ambition of the club. We’ve had a lot of productive meetings with the staff.

"We would obviously like a couple of results now to back it up but everything so far we are excited about.

"We’re conscious that our style is different to Jim’s [Goodwin]. Our style is different to how we’ll build play and press against the opposition.

"We have to make small tweaks in the short term, enough that we can get results and also put our stamp on it."
