Tait looking to help create lasting memories for supporters

Richard Tait wants to play his part in St Mirren reaching Hampden as he seeks to create lasting memories for supporters.

The Buddies face Hearts at Tynecastle tomorrow with a place in the last four of the Scottish Cup up for grabs.

The 32-year-old was part of the Saints side that reached two semi-finals last season, but the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic meant both matches were played in an empty national stadium.

With an opportunity to return to Hampden with crowds back, Tait would love to give the fans that chance of a memorable day out.

I think the last two semi-finals we got to didn’t really feel like semi-finals because there were no fans there,” Tait told the press this afternoon.

"I know that probably sounds a bit silly, but they just didn’t feel right. If we can get back to Hampden after this game, that would be a great reward for the fans.

"Fans remember days like that, especially little kids. They’ll always remember going to Hampden to watch St Mirren in a semi-final or final. I think that’s probably the most important thing for us - to get past this stage and hopefully create good memories for the fans."

Saints come up against a Hearts side they have failed to beat this season and Tait is under no illusion of the challenge that lies ahead.

But the right-back says they will good to Tynecastle in buoyant spirit after Wednesday night's win over Dundee in the cinch Premiership.

It’s going to be tough," Tait continued.

"Hearts have been our bogey team this year. They’ve beaten us three times in the league so hopefully in the cup it’s a bit different and it’s our time to win a match.

"Cup runs can breed belief in the squad. If we can get through to the next stage that can translate onto the league form as well.

"The lads are full of belief at the moment. We showed that in the Dundee game, we kept going and believed we were going to win it.

"It was really good to get that first win in awhile. The lads in the changing room afterwards were buzzing."
