History was made last night as Keanu Baccus became the first ever St Mirren player to play at the World Cup.
The moment came when the 24-year-old midfielder replaced Jackson Irvine in the second-half, coming up against the likes of superstars Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud as Australia faced current holders France in their Group D opener.
The Socceroos took a shock lead on nine minutes through Craig Goodwin and competed well throughout the 90 minutes, but unfortunately succumbed to world class France who eventually won 4-1.
The whole St Mirren family wishes to express how proud we are of Keanu and wish him well for the remainder of the tournament.
