Chairman's Update - August 2023

Chairman's Update - August 2023

With the new season now truly underway I thought it was time that I provided a brief update.

It’s been a very encouraging start to the season. The team have qualified from their Viaplay Cup group and with two SPFL wins out of two we are already six points better off compared to last season. Whilst the team are rightly getting plaudits I want to highlight the fantastic support we’ve had from every single supporter at these games. The team are clearly thriving on the positive encouragement from the stands and I believe you can feel the growing difference in the atmosphere at The SMiSA Stadium following our decision last year to retain three stands for St Mirren fans at all home games.

I want to thank every one of you who have bought Season Tickets and Replica Kits for 2023/24. Your support has been fantastic in helping us break all records at the SMiSA Stadium. As well as the obvious financial benefit, your commitment is of great encouragement to the team as we strive to continue to progress on the park again this season.

I’d like to congratulate Kate Cooper and all at St Mirren Women on a successful pre-season trip to Germany and wish them the very best as their new SWF League One season gets underway on Sunday. There has been tremendous growth within the women's team over the last year or so and we are excited for that to continue this season also.

You will also have seen the recent relaunch of our Help a Buddie scheme and I would ask every-one who is able to support this initiative to do so again this year. I have already done so personally as I know how much it meant to so many from organisations in our local community to be able to attend a game last season. You can make your contribution by using THIS LINK.

There’s also a lot going on behind the scenes to improve the way we operate and the experience on match days. We hope to start work imminently on three new Executive Boxes in the Main Stand. In addition, we will be installing a new, improved scoreboard together with electronic external and trackside advertising in the next few weeks. Discussions continue as to how best to provide a replacement for The Dome which sadly had to be decommissioned this year. The arrangements to decide on the best approach and secure the necessary grants will take a bit of time but we are making progress and we will update you once any decisions are made. One thing we have decided is that the replacement is likely to be on a different part of our land so work to clear and reinstate the existing site will commence very soon.

As a Board we continue to work as hard as we can to improve things on and off the park. Whilst you can never take anything for granted in football, with your continued support, there is no reason we can’t make 2023/24 even better than last season.
