St Mirren Football Club was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Tony Connell.
A full-back, Tony joined St Mirren in June 1967 from Third Lanark following the ceasing of their membership in the Scottish Football League.
Tony would go on to make 144 appearances during a near four-year stay at Saints and was a part of the fondly remembered Second Division winning side of 1967/68. Tony would move on to Queen of the South in 1971 before finishing his career at Pollok.
In November 2007, Tony was immortalised in St Mirren history when he was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame.
Tony passed away peacefully on December 30th at the age of 80. The thoughts of everyone at St Mirren are with Tony's loved ones at this sad time.
