Toyosi Olusanya joins Houston Dynamo in permanent move

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Toyosi Olusanya has departed to join Houston Dynamo on a permanent deal subject to international clearance and visa approval.

The 27-year-old, whose Saints contract was due to expire in June, joins the MLS side for an undisclosed six-figure transfer fee in line with our strategy to enhance our player trading model.

Joining the Buddies in summer 2022 from English Championship outfit Middlesborough, the forward took time to get going in Paisley and would go on loan at Arbroath during his first season in Scottish football.

After returning from the Red Lichties ahead of the 2023/24 season, Toyosi would score his first goal for St Mirren in a 1-0 win away to Cowdenbeath in the group stages of the Premier Sports Cup. The forward then netted on the opening day of the 2023/24 Premiership season, giving Saints the lead as we went on to defeat Hibernian 3-2 at Easter Road on matchday one. A strong end to the season saw the striker score vital goals in important wins over Dundee and Aberdeen, with the latter capping off a stunning comeback at The SMiSA Stadium.

Toyosi began the 2024/25 season in blistering form, netting in both our UEFA Conference League home ties against Valur and SK Brann before a run of four goals in our first six Premiership games at the beginning of the season.

The forward would score a total of 19 goals during his time at Saints, with his final goal coming in our 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox in February.

Paying tribute to Toyosi and his contributions to the team, manager Stephen Robinson said: "Toyosi has deserved his move.

It’s something that has come out of the blue, but it’s a fantastic opportunity for him. He’s conducted himself so well since he’s come to the club and proved what a good player and signing he’s been. He deserves every success going forward.

"For the club to secure a six-figure fee with such a short time remaining on his contract is terrific business. It’s credit to the football club and he leaves with our best wishes.

He’s a terrific person with a fantastic work ethic and is a great example to anyone coming in from non-league of where you can take yourself. We wish him and his family nothing but continued success."

Everyone at St Mirren thanks Toyosi for his contributions during his time at the club and wishes him the very best of luck in his future career.
