Danny Mullen: Thankful for the chance

Danny Mullen thanked Saints manager Jack Ross for giving him the chance to impress in Saturday's win over Dunfermline.

The forward started his first match since January and proved the manager was right to have faith in him after putting in his best performance since joining the club in December.

Mullen picked up the man of the match award after an impressive display that helped St Mirren move 11 points clear at the top of The Ladbrokes Championship.

Speaking to Buddievision after the match, Mullen said: "It was brilliant!

I thought to a man we were excellent from start to finish and we thoroughly deserved the three points.

"I thank the gaffer for putting his trust in me at a vital part of the season and thankfully I repaid him with the man of the match award. It's nice to take the award home.

"I think I did well against Dundee United in my first start, but I think it helped that every one of the boys were on their game and it made it hard for our opponents. I think we worked tirelessly to the very end.

"When I first came in I didn't really know what way we played but I'm picking up wee points from all the boys about how they play and how the team plays. I think I'm going to get better as time goes on so it's good.

Arguably, at this stage of the season, all that matters is picking up three points. But Saints put in an impressive showing on Saturday to earn the points and Mullen admits to win in that fashion was pleasing.

And with Saints moving 11 points clear with nine matches remaining, the forward says he's happy to have the points in the bag.

The manner we won it was excellent," he said.

"All the boys put in the hard work that was needed to beat Dunfermline. They are a good team. It's never easy to just turn up and beat teams like them. I think we deserved it from start to finish.

"It's better to have the points on the board at this stage of the season than having games in hand. Getting the three points today was excellent and it puts us in a good place.

"We're just looking at every game as it comes and hopefully pick up as many points from now until the end of the season and by that time we'll be where we want to be. If we take every game like we did today we'll have no problems."
