Last season

St Mirren and Ross County faced off two times last season with both sides picking up a win.

Saints defeated County 2-1 on their visit to Paisley in November with Sam Foley scoring an 89th minute winner. Brian Graham had given the Staggies the lead but Jim Goodwin's side levelled just before half-time through Sean McLoughlin. It looked like both sides would have to settle for a point before Foley rattled in his first Saints goal with a blistering strike from the edge of the box.

It was also a late goal that gave County their win when St Mirren visited Dingwall in September. Current Saint Marcus Fraser netted in stoppage time to give Stuart Kettlewell's side a 2-1 win.

Manager's thoughts

"I thought Ross County started the season really well. I was at their game against Hamilton and I thought they were excellent on the day.

"They are a good side and they have some really good players in Ross Stewart, Billy McKay, Lee Erwin, Harry Paton etc so we are going to have to have our wits about us at the back and defend as well as we have in recent weeks. But we've also got to believe that we can cause Ross County problems as well."

Who are the officials?

Mike Roncone is referee for Saturday's match with Dougie Potter and Gordon Crawford as the linesmen. William Collum is the fourth official.

Kristian Dennis will #BeInThatNumber

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Kristian Dennis on a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old forward joins Saints following the expiry of his contract at English side Notts County and subject to international clearance.

Kristian began his career at Macclesfield Town, but left the club in 2010. He would subsequently have spells at Woodley Sports, Mossley and Curzon Ashton with his impressive form at the latter, which saw him net 72 goals in two season, leading to a move to Stockport County in 2013.

He would spend three seasons at Stockport, but found himself back at Macclesfield on loan in the third season. He impressed in that spell at Macclesfield, scoring 27 goals in 44 appearances.

His form at the Silkmen lead to a return to the English Football League as he joined Chesterfield in 2016 where he played alongside ex-Saint Paul McGinn. In two seasons at Chesterfield Kristian scored 31 goals in 90 appearances.

Despite Chesterfield’s relegation to the National League, the forward remained in the football league when he signed for Notts County. Kristian would net 22 goals in 64 appearances including the first goal in a 2-0 win over Barnet in the National League play-off semi-final.

Speaking on the move, Kristian told stmirren.com: "The gaffer was very welcoming when I came up last week and just really helpful. I felt wanted and it was a no brainer to come up.

"The club seem like they really want to progress in the league and I just thought it would be a new challenge.

"I messaged Paul McGinn and he had nothing but good things to say. I’m just really looking forward to getting involved and hopefully hit the ground running and score a few goals.

"My last game was at Wembley a few weeks ago but I’ll have a few days training this week and hopefully be ready for Saturday."

Saints manager Jim Goodwin said: "Kristian is has been on the radar for three or four months.

"He was involved in the play-offs with Notts County and with that over he became available and we are delighted now to get it over the line.

"It’s been well documented that we wanted another striker. Bringing in Kristian gives us three good options and added to that we have young Lewis Jamieson who will make it four.

"His record in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net is very good. If you look at his stats over the last four or five years he’s averaging a goal every other game which is exactly what we are needing. He is a proven goalscorer, he is a great age and a natural finisher."

Match Report: Hamilton 0-1 St Mirren

Jon Obika's first goal of the season was enough to give St Mirren a second win from three at the start of the 2020/21 season.

The forward's first-half effort secured a 1-0 win for Jim Goodwin's men at the Foys Stadium.

Saints started brightly winning a corner inside the first 60 seconds. It was Joe Shaughnessy who met the resultant corner with Accies goalkeeper Ryan Fulton doing well to turn away.

Accies then threatened with David Templeton testing Jak Alnwick on four minutes before Scott Martin's deflected shot fell into the path of David Moyo on 10 minutes but the striker's effort was held at the second attempt by the Saints goalkeeper.

Shaughnessy went close again on 15 minutes with the Hamilton defence just managing to clear his effort from a corner.

Saints took the lead four minutes later when Obika scored his first goal since the final game of last season. The Hamilton defence couldn't clear a ball into their box and it fell kindly to Richard Tait at the far right hand of the Hamilton box. The defender sent the ball low across to find Obika who touched home to get off the mark for the season.

Saints were well in control at this point and could have found a second when Kyle McAllister's strike from the left-hand side was deflected just wide of Fulton's left-hand post before ex-Saint Lee Hodson's vital interception denied the St Mirren number 10 again. McAllister's powerful left-footed effort looking primed for the bottom corner of the Hamilton net but Hodson's touch managed to divert.

Fulton made a brilliant save to deny the Buddies a second on 35 minutes. Junior Morias' initial attempt from the edge of the area was blocked by Hakeem Odoffin but fell to the forward again who shifted his feet and cracked a strike towards the top corner with Fulton at full stretch to touch over.

Morias should have made it two just three minutes to half-time. Marcus Fraser played a brilliant low ball into the feet of the unmarked striker but he scooped over.

Hamilton started the stronger after the break with Alnwick having to make a terrific save less than a minute after the restart to deny Ross Callachan. The Accies midfielder had another good chance moments later but screwed wide from close range.

Alnwick again made good stops with his feet to deny Andy Winter and Scott McMann in the 66th and 77th minute as the home side pushed for a leveller.

Saints had struggled to get a foothold in the second-half but could have wrapped the game up with 12 minutes to go. Morias found substitute Ilkay Durmus with a lovely pass but Fulton was down quickly to hold the Turkish winger's low drive.

Durmus had another strike which he sent into the arms of the Hamilton goalkeeper as the game entered it's final minute, but Obika's first-half strike proved to be enough to see all three points return to Paisley.

Last meeting

St Mirren and Hamilton couldn't be separated when the sides met back in February at St Mirren Park. David Templeton gave Accies the lead before a second-half free-kick from Ilkay Durmus gave Saints a share of the spoils.

Jim Goodwin's men were victorious on their last visit to the FOYS Stadium back in December when Cammy MacPherson's second-half strike saw Saints secure a well deserved three points in a 1-0 win.

Manager's thoughts

"You know what you are going to get [when you play Hamilton]. They play the same way regardless of the opposition and you have to give credit to Brian Rice for the way he goes about it.

"They are a very direct team and get balls up to David Moyo and Marios Ogkmpoe and compete for the second balls. But they've got some really good players in their team. Lewis Smith on the right-hand side is a real attacking threat so Richard Tait will have his work cut out for him there.

"We want to try and build on the positive result against Livingston. It will be more of the same again on Saturday. We are going to have to compete but hopefully that quality we have in the group will shine through."

Who are the officials?

Steven Kirkland is referee for Saturday's match with Frank Connor and Graham McNeille as the linesmen. Don Robertson is the fourth official.

Thank You For Being In That Number

As part of the #BeInThatNumber season ticket campaign we decided that each season ticket holder deserved their own Saints number, just like the players on the pitch.

That is why with each 2020/21 season ticket we granted you your own number, starting at the number 12 – recognising that the fans are our 12th man. That number is yours to proudly own.

We have had a sensational response from season ticket holders and have sold over 3200 so far.

All of these numbers have now been sent out to 2020/21 season ticket holders on our database, if you haven’t received your 'Be in that Number’'these are some of the common reasons behind this:

- Some email providers have directed them to either the spam or promotions (gmail) folder
- Your email address hasn’t been updated when you changed it
- We do not have an email address for you
- You are under 16, in which case the adult associated with your ticket would have received the numbers

We would ask that anyone who hasn’t received their number checked their spam/promotions folder initially or contact events@stmirren.com to update your contact information.

Your support of St Mirren has never been more vital, and we thank you for Being In That Number during the 2020/21 season.

Club Statement

St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick said:

"We’ve learned at first hand within our club the importance of the testing regimen and 100% adherence to all social distancing and hygiene protocols.

"It is bitterly disappointing that our game tomorrow has been postponed, but it underlines the hugely damaging consequences of even one player disregarding the new rules. We absolutely support the stance of the SFA and the SPFL in this matter.

"These necessary steps are there to protect our game, our players and the very future of every single club in the country.

"The stakes could not be higher and that is why as a club we will be constantly reinforcing the need for personal responsibility and vigilance. The Scottish game simply cannot afford to shoot itself in the foot."

Match Report: Rangers 3-0 St Mirren

St Mirren were beaten by Rangers on match day two of the Scottish Premiership.

A Conor McCarthy own-goal gave Rangers a first-half lead before an Alfredo Morelos double rounded off the win for the Ibrox side.

Steven Gerrard's side were on the ascendancy from the off with Ianis Hagi having a good opportunity inside the first five minutes when the ball fell to the Romanian just eight yards from goal. But the forward shot into the ground which took the sting out of it for Jak Alnwick.

The Saints goalkeeper would have a busy first-half saving a low effort from Morelos on 12 minutes before having to gather an Aribo strike two minutes later.

Rangers pressure told when they took the lead on 23 minutes. It was unfortunate for defender McCarthy who could do nothing as Morelos' ball across the box cannoned off him and into the Saints net.

The home side pushed for a second before the interval with Alnwick saving well from James Tavernier twice, while Ryan Kent lashed a fierce shot just by the right-hand post.

Saints started the second-half brightly and may feel aggrieved not to have been awarded a penalty when Jamie McGrath appeared to have been fouled inside the Rangers box. The midfielder's foot was inside the area when he was brought down but referee Andrew Dallas awarded a free-kick. Durmus stepped up to take the free-kick but Gers goalkeeper McLaughlin was level to it.

Rangers doubled their advantage with a little over 20 minutes remaining. Morelos, who had already gone close twice in the second-half, somehow found himself free in the Saints box to head home a corner from the right-hand side.

Morelos rounded off the win for Rangers when he scored his second and Rangers third on 74 minutes. Borna Barisic burst into the Saints box but had his shot blocked by Alnwick only for it to fall to Morelos two yards from goal to knock home.
