Davis Delighted to Return to Saints

Harry Davis says he is on cloud nine as his return to St Mirren was made official this morning.

The 25 year-old had a successful, albeit brief, loan spell with the club last season before his season was ended early due to injury.

It was a spell that the defender thoroughly enjoyed as he knocked back interest from other Scottish and English clubs to sign on permanently with the Saints.

Speaking to stmirren.com, the ex-Crewe Alexandra admitted the Buddies felt like the right fit for him: "Yeah I'm delighted to be back.

It's been ongoing throughout the summer. I've kept in contact with a lot of people at the club and I'm delighted to get signed.

"I can't speak highly enough about the club and everyone here to be honest with you. Everyone from the gaffer, Tony [Fitzpatrick], the fans and the club in general.

"I've just got a great feeling about it and it just feels right."

Davis only made nine appearances during his loan spell, but impressed with his composure in defence and his goal-scoring threat.

In those nine matches he scored against Celtic in the Scottish Cup and netted the opener in a 3-2 win over Dundee United at the Paisley 2021 Stadium along with a goal against Dumbarton on his debut.

I absolutely loved it," he confessed.

"The gaffer and the whole club made me feel welcome as soon as I walked in the door and you remember stuff like that.

"I really enjoyed my time here and I'm certain I can enjoy another spell here as well."

While the defender is still a bit away from being match fit after the injury he picked up in March, he says he is making good progress as he looks to return to the first team as soon as he can.

I'm feeling good," he said. "I'm unrestricted now in terms of what I can do so hopefully I can just start loading it and pushing on and hopefully I'm not too far away.

"I want to get back as soon as possible obviously, but it's one of those things I can't rush and I've got to make sure it's 100% right before I come back in. I'm hoping it comes sooner rather than later.

"I think the aim has to be to take the form from last season into this season and I don't see any reason why we can't do that with the squad that is here."

Harry Davis joins the Saints

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Harry Davis.

The defender has put pen to paper to sign a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

The 25 year-old Englishman initially joined the Buddies on loan in January and quickly became a fans favourite as he scored three goals in nine appearances before injury cut his spell short.

Gavin Reilly: Good to get back to winning ways

Gavin Reilly says it was good to end the Betfred Cup with an emphatic victory as St Mirren overcame Airdrieonians 5-0 on Saturday.

The striker notched two goals in Saints' five goal win over the Lanarkshire side as the Buddies gear up for this weekend's Ladbrokes Championship opening day.

And he confessed it was important for the side to make amends for the defeat to Partick Thistle a week earlier.

After last week it was good to get back to winning ways, and to win convincingly," he said.

"It was good to get the Partick game out of our system and build up for the Falkirk game next Saturday.

"There was two ways to look at this game. Everyone could have looked at it as a nothing game but you go into every game wanting to get something out of it.

"I personally wanted to get some goals. And because of that I was delighted to get the win because last Saturday was very frustrating because we let a lot of people down.

"We let ourselves down, the fans down so to come back and win in the manner we did was brilliant to do."

Reilly's double against Airdrieonians took him to three goals in four starts for the Buddies.

The summer signing admits, as a striker, it was imperative to get off to a goalscoring start in his time at the Saints.

It was very important for me to score early on, especially scoring against Stranraer.

"I scored a couple of goals in pre-season but when the first competitive game start you are always wanting to get off that mark to take the pressure off.

"But as long as I'm contributing and setting up goals then that's brilliant."

With the Betfred Cup campaign over for Saints, the 24 year-old is now looking forward to this weekend's curtain-raiser against Falkirk.

These are the games you want to play in," he said.

"It is the first game of the season and there will be a big crowd here with a great atmosphere."

Jack Ross on win over Airdrieonians

Jack Ross was delighted as St Mirren ended their Betfred Cup campaign with a 5-0 win over Airdrieonians at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.

An own goals was added to by a double from Gavin Reilly and strikes from Lewis Morgan and Cammy Smith as the Saints ran out emphatic winners.

It was a morale boosting win ahead of next weekend's Ladbrokes Championship opening day fixture with Falkirk.

Speaking to the press after the match, the manager said: "We have had a bit of an up and down pre-season through various things so today was about getting back to winning ways regardless of the scoreline.

"I thought we played really well and it was nice to see us keep a clean sheet and the forward going players get on the score sheet, so it's been a good day for us.

"It's not easy to respond to the disappointment of last week because of the result and the manner of the performance. We took criticism last week and deservedly so. The players took it from me as well so to respond in that manner was terrific and it shows our character.

"We've still got a good bit to go until we get to the levels we think we can be at to challenge this season, but today was good for us.

"It's been a peculiar league cup section for us because we started it really well with a really good result away to Stranraer and we've finished it with a really good result. The Livingston game was okay - we just couldn't score - and the Partick game was horrible for us.

"It has been up and down for us but ultimately it is about us trying to be in the best possible frame of mind for next week and we've helped ourselves with that result and performance today.

"We've had an awful lot of injuries," he continued. "Not just to senior players but ironically enough to some of the U20s who probably would have featured today.

"It's been challenging in that regard. It's not an excuse for last week for example but you meet those challenges. We've still got a bit to go but today was encouraging.

"Next week will have a different feel around it. These games still have a little bit of a pre-season feel to it, whereas next week the crowd that will be in here, the atmosphere and intensity will properly be at competitive football."

Match Report: St Mirren 5-0 Airdrieonians

St Mirren's Betfred Cup campaign ended with a morale boosting win over Airdrieonians at the Paisley 2021 Stadium this afternoon.

Jack Ross' side were dominant throughout the 90 minutes, putting five beyond the Diamonds as they gear up for the Ladbrokes Championship opening day fixture against Falkirk next week.

Saints were ahead just nine minutes in as a Stelios cross was turned into the net. Cammy Smith was credited with the goal but it appeared to come off Airdrie's Kieran MacDonald, leaving Rohan Ferguson helpless in the visitors' goal. Nevertheless it gave the side an early lead from which to build upon.

The Buddies could have been two to the good a little over five minutes later. A short freekick was worked wide to Jack Baird whose attempted cross was knocked out for a corner. Ian McShane pinged the ball into the penalty spot where Gary MacKenzie leaped above the Diamonds' defence to bullet just wide of the mark.

The home side had to be alert when an excellent ball in from Cameron Russell was headed wide by Stelios with John Higgins waiting to pounce at the back post. From the corner, Saints cleared to Lewis Morgan who broke forward at speed before seeing his effort from the edge of the box blocked.

Saints were on top and a succession of corners first saw McShane having a shot pushed wide by Ferguson, before the Airdrie keeper made a brilliant save to deny Jack Baird.

St Mirren's dominance was to pay dividends when Gavin Reilly made it 2-0 on the half hour mark. Stephen McGinn expertly picked out John Sutton with a beautifully weighted ball into the box which the experienced striker cushioned on to Reilly. The 24 year-old didn't need a second invitation as he fired high into the top of the net to double the Buddies' advantage.

Half Time: St Mirren 2-0 Airdrieonians

The visitors spurned a glorious to reduce the deficit early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty. MacKenzie was booked for his protests after he was adjudged to have pulled down Dean Cairns from a corner kick. Andy Ryan stepped up but sent the spot kick wide of the target.

Saints would also miss a penalty after substitute Ross Stewart was fouled inside the box around 15 minutes later. Reilly stepped up looking to net his second of the afternoon but his effort was tame and easily saved by Ferguson.

The striker would quickly make amends though. He was on the end of a cross from Morgan with his header hitting the post before creeping over the line to put the game to bed.

He could have had the match ball less than 60 seconds later as he found himself in good space before his attempt was pushed wide by Ferguson.

The game was over as a contest but there was a clean sheet to be kept for Craig Samson. He made a series of good stops in a busy two minute spell. First he denied David Brownlie with a fine save, tipping the header over the bar. From the resultant corner he made another excellent stop from Ryan's header before blocking Murray Loudon's far post volley.

And not only was there a clean sheet to be kept, but Saints were hungry for more goals with Morgan getting in on the act. The 20 year-old winger scored a fine angled effort after latching on to a ball over the top from McShane, rifling into the far corner beyond Ferguson.

Stewart thought he had netted when he followed up Morgan's saved effort minutes later but the linesman's flag was raised to deny the striker a first goal at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.

There would be a fifth though as Smith scored on 89 minutes. There was to be no argument about this one as the forward broke into the box and smashed it home to make it 5-0.

It may have meant little in terms of the Betfred Cup, but the emphatic win gives Saints a boost heading into next week's curtain raiser in the Ladbrokes Championship.

Match Preview: St Mirren v Airdrieonians

St Mirren's Betfred Cup campaign comes to a close tomorrow as the Buddies host Airdrieonians at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.

Regardless of tomorrow's result neither side can qualify, effectively rendering the match meaningless. But Saints won't enter tomorrow's match with that mindset as they look to build towards the Ladbrokes Championship opening day fixture against Falkirk and secure a third place finish.

The Buddies defeated Stranraer 4-1 at Stair Park in the opening match of Group H. First half strikes from Gavin Reilly, Ross Stewart and Lewis Morgan were added to by a debut goal from Gregor Buchanan as St Mirren came from behind to pick up three points. However, a 1-0 loss to Livingston and a 5-0 defeat at Firhill against Partick Thistle ended Saints hopes of progressing to the last 16.

Airdrieonians also started off Group H with victory over Stranraer. An Andy Ryan penalty was sandwiched between a double from Cameron Russell before the Blues scored a late consolation goal. Goals from Dylan Mackin and Craig Halkett either side of half time saw Livingston overcome the League One side before a narrow 2-1 defeat against Partick Thistle ended their chances of qualifying.

St Mirren haven't faced the Lanarkshire side in competitive football since a 2-1 win in 2006 at Love Street in the old First Division. John Sutton was at the double as the Saints closed in on promotion to the then Scottish Premier League. The Buddies have won five of the last six encounters between the two teams with just one loss in 19.

Saints will be looking to make amends for last weekend's loss to Partick Thistle, while ended the group on a high ahead of the league campaign kicking-off next weekend. Kyle Magennis, Adam Eckersley, Josh Todd and Dale Hilson remain out for St Mirren, while Conor O'Keefe is a doubt after an injury picked up in training. Full back Stelios Demetriou returns to the squad after missing out last week due to suspension.

Airdrieonians are still without a permanent manager after Mark Wilson left the club in June. Coach Donald Jennow will continue to take charge of the side as the curtain comes down on the Betfred Cup for both sides.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

From there you can get train to Paisley St James or if you prefer to walk the following routes are advised by the police:

Jordan Kirkpatrick: We want to prove a point

Jordan Kirkpatrick says the team fell short of the standards expected of them in the loss to Partick Thistle and wants to make amends for it on Saturday.

The Buddies host Airdrieonians at the Paisley 2021 Stadium in the final match of Group H in the Betfred Cup.

Although Saints can't qualify for the next round the midfielder, who made his first start in the defeat against the Jags, wants to repay the supporters whilst building up momentum ahead of the opening day of the Ladbrokes Championship next week.

Speaking to stmirren.com, Kirkpatrick said: "I think we all know it wasn't up to the standards we should be at.

Saturday is about proving a point really and the gaffer has us working hard.

"The fans always show up for the games and come in their numbers so it's disappointing for them to come and watch a poor performance on our behalf.

"Hopefully they'll turn up on Saturday and we can make it a lot better.

"We should treat every game like a cup final and get as much out of it as we can. We can work on our strengths and try to work as a team.

"It's another game for us before we go into the league next week and hopefully we can get a win and get the boys confidence up as high as possible.

"If we win on Saturday we forget everything that has happened and go forward."

The 25 year-old began his career at Hamilton Academical before a stint with Saturday's opponents Airdrieonians alongside spells at Dumbarton and Alloa.

He confessed he is enjoying being back in the full-time environment and believes he is settling in well.

It's been good," he said.

"I don't think you can complain about coming to train every day instead of going to work.

"Because I know how it works I know how to set myself and how I treat myself away from the game and make sure I'm always fit for training.

"The first week was tough trying to get my body back into a full time programme. Now I feel like I'm back into normal full time environment and it is good."
