Jamie McGrath joins Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Jamie McGrath has tonight joined Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old joined Saints in January 2020 from League of Ireland side Dundalk and made 79 appearances for the Buddies over his two years in Paisley.

His fine form in the 2020/21 season - in which he scored 17 goals and won the St Mirren Player of The Year – saw him earn international recognition for the Republic of Ireland where he became a regular for Stephen Kenny’s side during their World Cup qualifiers.

Jamie scored three goals this season to take his St Mirren tally to 20 with his final goal, in a 1-1 draw with Livingston, winning the cinch Goal of the Month award for November.

Everyone at St Mirren would like to thank Jamie for his service to the club and wish him all the very best for his future.

Kristian Dennis leaves to join Carlisle United

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Kristian Dennis has departed the club to sign for Carlisle United.

Having joined Saints from Notts County in August 2020, Kristian leaves Paisley after scoring six goals in 39 appearances for the Buddies - the last of which came in a Premier Sports Cup group stage win against Stenhousemuir in July.

We thank Kristian for his service to St Mirren and wish him the best for his future.

Alex Gogic signs on loan until the end of the season

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Alex Gogic on loan from Hibernian until the end of the season subject to clearance.

He becomes our third signing of the January transfer window following moves that brought Alex Greive and Jordan Jones to Paisley this month.

Saints manager Jim Goodwin has been a long-time admirer of the Cypriot international who began his career with Greek giants Olympiakos.

After a spell with English Championship side Swansea City, Alex moved to Scotland in 2017 to sign for Hamilton Academical. The 27-year-old impressed in his three-and-a-half years at Accies – winning a move to Hibernian at the beginning of the 2020/21 season.

Alex made 53 appearances for the Hibees before agreeing his loan deal with Saints on deadline day.

Jordan Jones joins on loan until the end of the season

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Jordan Jones on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old joins Saints from English League One side Wigan Athletic.

Beginning his career at Middlesbrough, the Northern Ireland international has plenty of Scottish football experience having played over 100 games across spells at Kilmarnock and Rangers between 2016 and 2021.

Jordan spent a portion of last season on loan at Sunderland where he made 21 appearances and scored three goals as they reached the English League One play-offs.

Speaking after signing, Jordan said: "I've been speaking with the gaffer for the last 10 to 14 days and got a really good feel from him after the first phone call.

He made me feel like I'd be a really valued member of the squad here. He has seen me play and believes in what I can do.

"I'm at a stage of my career where I feel like it's vital for me to play and to start doing well again."

Saints manager Jim Goodwin believes Jordan will add something to his forward line that has been lacking this season.

Jordan knows the Premiership really well up here. He tore it up with Kilmarnock and then got a big move to Rangers.

"We’ve been working extremely hard on it over the last couple of weeks.

"He gives us something that we have been missing all season which is that real injection of pace and creativity at the top end.

"Hopefully he’ll assist the forward players and score some of his own as well."

Kyle McAllister joins Partick Thistle on loan

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Kyle McAllister has joined Partick Thistle on loan until the end of the season.

The St Mirren Youth Academy made his debut for Saints in 2016 at 17-years-old before winning a move to English Championship side Derby County in 2017.

McAllister returned to St Mirren for a loan spell in January 2019 and returned to the club on a permanent basis in August 2019.

Everyone at St Mirren wishes Kyle all the best in his time at Partick.

St Mirren will be looking to keep up their winning run when Motherwell visit the SMiSA Stadium on Tuesday night.

Jim Goodwin's men have won their first three games of 2022 - defeating Aberdeen, Ayr United and Dundee United.

The Buddies were due to face Dundee at the Kilmac Stadium on Saturday, but the match was postponed due high winds causing stadium safety issues.

Motherwell come into Tuesday's match looking for their first cinch Premiership win of 2022. The Steelmen were defeated 2-0 by Hearts on Saturday. That came after a 0-0 draw with Hibernian at Fir Park and a 3-1 loss to Ross County in Dingwall.

Graham Alexander's side did, however, beat Morton in extra-time to progress to the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup.

Previous

Saints host Motherwell for the first time this season.

The only meeting between the two so far this season took place at Fir Park in October. The Buddies came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 thanks to a double from Eamonn Brophy.

Neither side could be separated in both of Motherwell's visits to the SMiSA Stadium last season with the games finishing 1-1 and 0-0.

Saints last win against the Steelmen was in December 2020 when Jim Goodwin's men won 1-0 at Fir Park.

The officials

Euan Anderson is the referee on Tuesday night. He's assisted by Drew Kirkland and Colin Drummond. Matthew MacDermid is the fourth official.

Dundee match postponed

Today's match against Dundee has been postponed due to the effects of Storm Malik.

There have been stadium safety issues at the Kilmac Stadium caused by the high winds.

Details on rearranged fixtures and ticket arrangements will be announced in due course.

Jim Goodwin: We will have to be at the best to beat Dundee

Saints boss Jim Goodwin believes his side will have to be at it if they want to keep up their winning run when they face Dundee in the cinch Premiership.

The Buddies head to the Kilmac Stadium in good spirit having won all three matches since returning from the winter break.

And despite Dundee being on a run of seven games without a win, the manager won't be taking tomorrow's match for granted.

Dundee is an extremely difficult fixture, they are fighting for their lives," the manager told the press.

"They beat us here [The SMiSA Stadium] 1-0 last time out and we had a very close game on the first day of the season so we have to be at our best.

"We said after the Aberdeen game that winning breeds confidence. We’ve got a nice little bit of momentum now at the moment with three wins on the spin.

"It’s been hard work and discipline first and foremost, with some very good goals along the way as well. There’s going to be a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between now and the end of the season.

"Last season I probably spoke too much about targets and where we wanted to be,” Goodwin added.

"I’m not taking away from the fact that we still want top six, we still want to be in the mix for that. But the message for the players after the break was let’s just take it one game at a time and that’s what we are doing now."

Use of Pyrotechnics

Supporter safety is a key priority for all clubs and we at St Mirren Football Club are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that the match day experience is safe and enjoyable.

One of the most dangerous things we have to deal with is pyrotechnic articles such as smoke bombs and flares in the stadium and we'd ask that you assist us to look after you by not bringing such articles with you to matches. These articles can cause severe burns, damage to hearing or breathing difficulties and their use is especially distressing for groups such as small children and those who can't easily move away when pyrotechnics are activated.

Experience shows that when a pyrotechnic is activated in a crowd there is often a movement away from the immediate area which can cause panic and disorientation and which creates a risk of slips and trips or crushing for those nearby.

Please be in no doubt that these articles are unpleasant and potentially life-threatening to be around - they are also illegal at football matches - and being caught with them will result in exclusion from The SMISA Stadium and a possible criminal conviction as well as potential financial penalties for the club.
