Eamonn Brophy injury update

Eamonn Brophy could be out for up to four weeks after suffering an ankle ligament in last week's match against Motherwell.

Speaking to the press this afternoon, St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin admitted the injury doesn't appear as bad as was initially thought.

We've had some positive feedback from the specialist yesterday.

"The MRI scan initially was a wee bit concerning, but it looks like it won't be as long as first feared.

"We're hoping it's only going to be three to four weeks as opposed to eight weeks which was first feared initially.

"We'll try and rush him as much as we can while at the same time being fair to him and making sure he's OK to come back in.

"It is pleasing. We're a little light at the top of the pitch at the moment."

Brophy picked up his injury in our 1-1 draw against Motherwell last week

The Buddies will also be without Curtis Main for tomorrow night's match against St Johnstone.

The forward made his return to the side as a substitute in Saturday's win over Hibernian, but won't be available tomorrow.

Curtis Main is struggling, he will miss tomorrow night.

"He's not long back from injury when he came on and played against Hibs on Saturday for 20 minutes.

"He didn't feel right yesterday so tomorrow will be too soon. I imagine he'll be available for the weekend."

Covid status checks

Due to updated guidance from the Joint Response Group earlier this week, Covid status checks will not be in check for this match.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

More than 250 young people spend the festive break with Street Stuff

More than 250 young people attend Street Stuff's festive programme

Activities take place four nights per week over three-week break with young people offered free meal

Street Stuff’s festive programme attracted more than 250 young people over the festive break, with free activities taking place in communities across Renfrewshire.

Young people attending the activities, delivered four nights per week during the three-week break, were also offered a free meal to ensure they were fuelled up and ready to go.

Councillor Marie McGurk, Convenor of Renfrewshire Council’s Communities, Housing and Planning Policy Board, said: "It’s fantastic to see so many young people taking part in Street Stuff.

"The holiday programmes are so important as it gives young people an opportunity to take part in sport and exercise, and to socialise with their peers in a safe and fun environment.

"Thank you to all coaches and volunteers who continue to make a difference to the lives of young people through Street Stuff."

Staff and volunteers were on hand at all the activities to spread some festive cheer, handing out gift cards and selection boxes to those taking part.

Street Stuff is a diversionary project run in partnership between Renfrewshire Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Engage Renfrewshire and St Mirren Football Club.

The programme began in 2009 in Renfrewshire contributing to a reduction in youth disorder and anti-social behaviour by 75 percent over the first five years with a sustained reduction of 65 percent.

The programme runs six days a week, all-year-round, at venues across Renfrewshire and young people aged 8 to 16 are encouraged to turn up and take part for free.

Pitch encroachment at the SMiSA Stadium

The club is currently looking into the pitch encroachment at the SMiSA Stadium during last Tuesday night’s match against Motherwell.

The incident occurred late on in the match with a section of both supports entering the field of play.

Fans are reminded that encroachment on the pitch or trackside is not permitted at any time, before, during or after the game. This is for the safety of both sets of players and supporters of all ages inside the stadium. This has been heightened by the introduction of match day red zones which are in place to mitigate against the risk of Covid-19 spread.

Encroachment is in breach of the ground regulations and therefore an arrestable offence which could lead to a football banning order as well as an indefinite club ban.

Up Next: St Mirren v St Johnstone (9th Feb)

St Mirren are back under the SMiSA Stadium lights on Wednesday night for our third midweek home match in a row.

Saints are in unbeaten in their four cinch Premiership matches of 2022 - winning three and drawing one. Connor Ronan's second-half strike saw the Buddies defeat Hibernian 1-0 at Easter Road on Saturday. There have been wins against Dundee United and Aberdeen, while we were held to a 1-1 draw against Motherwell.

Jim Goodwin's side remain in ninth place in the cinch Premiership - but could potentially move up to fifth place with a win on Wednesday.

St Johnstone hauled themselves off the foot of the table with a 2-1 win over Livingston last week. Callum Davidson's side are three without defeat having also drawn 0-0 with both Dundee and Dundee United.

They sit in the relegation play-off spot - a point ahead of bottom side Dundee and seven points away from 10th place Ross County.

Previous

There has been nothing between the two Saints in their two meetings this season.

Conor McCarthy has a goal disallowed as the Paisley Saints were held to a 0-0 draw at the SMiSA Stadium in August. It was also 0-0 when Jim Goodwin's side visited McDiarmid Park in November.

Our last win against St Johnstone was at the SMiSA Stadium in December 2020 when goals from Ethan Erhahon, Lee Erwin and Jon Obika saw us beat the Perth Saints 3-2.

David Dickinson is the referee on Wednesday night. Calum Spence and Colin Drummond are his assistants, while Duncan Williams is the fourth official.

Jim Goodwin delight at result and performance

The most important thing at this time of the season is always the result, but I thought the overall performance was excellent."

Jim Goodwin was delighted with his team's performance and the result as Saints defeated Hibernian at Easter Road.

St Mirren take the points after win in the capital

Connor Ronan's fifth goal of the season gives Saints first win at Easter Road since 2016.

Jim Goodwin's side have won three of their four cinch Premiership matches of 2022.

St Mirren's unbeaten run in 2022 continued as Connor Ronan's second-half goal saw Saints defeat Hibernian at Easter Road.

The Irishman scored his fifth goal of the season just after the hour mark to make it four wins from five for Jim Goodwin's side and move us to within a point of top six.

The manager made one change for the side that drew with Motherwell midweek. Alex Greive, back from international duty with New Zealand, came in for his first start in place of the injured Eamonn Brophy.

The New Zealand forward was almost the recipient of a dangerous looking ball across from Jordan Jones with just eight minutes played, but the cross had too much on it for Greive to get proper contact.

Saints pressed and harried the hosts in the opening exchanges forcing them into mistakes and frustrating the Easter Road crowd. Richard Tait was given an abundance of time and space to curl wide from 25 yards on 17 minutes before Jones blasted over from the same sort of range a minute later.

Greive was sent away on the counter on 22 minutes with Lewis Stevenson hesitant to close the ball down. Greive drove forward but with no support he had a go from an angle which Kevin Dabrowski managed to push away.

The Buddies defence was called into action a few minutes later with Joe Shaughnessy and Richard Tait making a vital goal-saving block to deny Hibernian's American forward Chris Mueller. It was end-to-end stuff with neither goalkeeper really having much to do in the first half-hour.

Saints finished the half the stronger of the two sides with Connor Ronan in two opportunities in the final minutes of the opening 45. The Irishman dragged wide from 20 yards on 41 minutes. Two minutes later Ronan showed great feet to work his way by a couple of challenges before rolling into the path of Jay Henderson whose effort with the outside of his boot was palmed away by Dabrowski.

Hibernian manager Shaun Maloney made a change at the break with Ewan Henderson replacing Christian Doidge and the substitute almost put the home side in front on 52 minutes. He was found well by Kevin Nisbet in the centre of the box, but Jak Alnwick was out to brilliantly block.

The Saints goalkeeper had to be at his best to deny Henderson again four minutes later. Once again it was Nisbet who set it up for Henderson whose attempt 15 yards out was tipped over by Alnwick.

Despite a slow start to the second-half, Jim Goodwin's men would take the lead just after the hour mark. Ronan robbed ex-Saint Jake Doyle-Hayes of the ball 20 yards from goal and slammed into the roof of the net after breaking into the box.

Hibernian almost immediately found themselves level with Alnwick at full stretch to just claw Nisbet's close-range effort by the post.

Greive was inches away from scoring his first Saints goal and doubling our lead with around 20 minutes of play remaining. Jones caught the Hibernian defence out with his low ball across the box with Greive just unable to connect.

The home side had the majority of the pressure in the final stages as they searched for an equaliser. But they couldn't trouble Alnwick or the Saints defence which ensured all the points are heading back to Paisley.

Up Next: Hibernian v St Mirren (5th Feb)

Saints busy schedule continues with a trip to Scotland's capital this weekend as Jim Goodwin's side face Hibernian at Easter Road.

The Buddies will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run in 2022 having won three and drawn one of their four matches in the new year.

Alex Gogic's debut goal looked like it would make it four wins from four when Saints faced Motherwell at the SMiSA Stadium on Tuesday night. But a late equaliser from the Steelmen meant the Buddies had to settle for a point.

Hibernian have yet to win in the cinch Premiership since returning from the winter break.

Shaun Maloney's side go into Saturday's match having drawn 0-0 with their Edinburgh rivals Hearts on Tuesday night. That followed losses to Livingston (2-3) and Celtic (0-1) as well as another 0-0 draw with Motherwell.

Previous

Neither could be separated in the two meetings between the sides this season.

Eamonn Brophy and Joe Shaughnessy scored at Easter Road as the Saints drew 2-2 with the Hibees back in September.

Shaughnessy was on the scoresheet once again when Hibernian visited the SMiSA Stadium in December. His late equaliser earned us a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
