COVID-19 Week 12 Update (2nd June 2020)

The uptake of season tickets for the 2020/21 campaign by Saints fans continues to astonish. We are grateful for your unwavering support, loyalty and commitment to the club

Our Early Bird Prices have been extended until 24th July so we can give loyal fans, who wish to support their club, the opportunity to save on their St Mirren FC season ticket. These prices will be available for a longer period of time in the hope that it will relieve some of the financial pressure dedicated fans may feel in wishing to purchase a season ticket. Full details can be found here of how you can #BeInThatNumber.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to issue personalised numbers to season ticket holders as part of the #BeInThatNumber campaign, with the next winning number picking up the Stadium Ticket Announcer Prize.

Meanwhile our inaugural Virtual 50/50 half-time draw took place at the weekend, with the game shown being last year’s dramatic Play-Off Final win over Dundee United.

Congratulations to our first winner John Moore, who wins 50% of the proceeds, with the other half going towards developing our stars of the future at the St Mirren Academy.

Watch out for details of the next draw and of the Saints game that will be featured. Enter with tickets costing just £1 each with no limit on the amount of tickets you can buy.

St Mirren Charitable Foundation

We are excited to announce that on Friday 12th June we will be hosting Drums N Roses here at St Mirren Park for a live streamed set as a fundraiser for St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation.

We were approached by the Pipe & Drum band, who are St Mirren Fans, with their original concept. The day will be called ‘Drums On Friday’ and will kick off at 3pm with young fans & members of the Panda Club playing our community Drum in short filmed segments. We will then have some of our W7 Northbank fans playing along to a St Mirren fan favourite and this will all lead to the evening set live here at St Mirren Park for at least 45 minutes.

It is a great opportunity to wear your St Mirren Strips & have some fun, you don’t need a drum, play a washing basket, a bin, a pot or pan and get involved. Please look out for our social media posts over the next few days for more details and if you wish your child to play our drum get in contact.

Thank you.

And finally

The board would like to record their thanks to all the players who are leaving the club, from those who made a small impact in their time here to those who were hugely instrumental in bringing the club to where it is today.

One player in particular cannot leave without us paying him the respect his input over the last three-and-a-half years deserves.

It started during the second-half of The New Saints IRN-BRU Cup semi final where he dragged us up by the bootstraps and turned a miserable first half performance into a new dawn.

He was instrumental in keeping us up that season and then captained us to promotion the following season.

During our first year back in the premiership it was him more than anyone that gathered the players together when things were looking grim and started a revival that saw us stay up in that wonderful play of final.

He came back to our club at a time when he could easily have gone elsewhere for more money but he felt he wanted to help St Mirren get back to where they belonged and at the same time rekindle his love for football.

He has played through injuries and even returned early after a remarkable recovery from a double hernia operation to ensure our club continued to progress. This season he has been hampered by injuries and had a long overdue operation on his knee which has, in his words, allowed him to train pain free for the first time in years.

He leaves the club with our best wishes and we sincerely hope our paths will cross again at some time in the future.

Take a bow Stephen McGinn. You have earned it.

St Mirren FC Squad Update

The club would like to give supporters an update on the squad.

Stephen McGinn, Danny Mullen, Gary MacKenzie, Ross Wallace, Tony Andreu and Cody Cooke will be retained under the furlough scheme before leaving the club.

This provision will also be extended to the following academy players Conor McBrearty, Scott Glover, David Wilson, Matthew Grant, Kyle Girvan and Dominic Lavelle.

Oan Djorkaeff and Vaclav Hladky will also leave the club following the expiry of their contracts, an offer was made to Vaclav but he has decided he wishes to pursue options elsewhere.

Akin Famewo, Calum Waters, Lee Hodson, Alex Jakubiak and Seifedin Chabbi all return to their parent clubs following the expiry of their loan deals.

The club can confirm it has made an offer to extend the contract of Ryan Flynn and we are hopeful this can be resolved very soon.

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin said: "It has been really difficult to have to say goodbye to these players especially in the current circumstances. However, the opportunity to support the players through the close season is one the club felt was important. It goes without saying that everyone at the club wishes all of them the very best for the future."

The Buddies will be saying goodbye to players who have contributed immensely to the club during their time and the club would like to sincerely thank everyone for their efforts in the Black and White stripes and wish them every success in the future.

Stephen McGinn will leave the club after returning to the Buddies for the second time in 2017.  A St Mirren academy graduate, Stephen was named captain upon his return and played a pivotal part in securing survival on the final day of the Ladbrokes Championship that season.

One year later Stephen would lift the Ladbrokes Championship trophy and lead St Mirren back to the Ladbrokes Premiership. Stephen would then play a vital part in a great escape with St Mirren maintaining their place in the Premiership through the play-offs in season 2018/19

Stephen made his 200th St Mirren appearance at home against Hibernian and made his final appearance in a 1-0 win over Hamilton in December 2019.

Danny Mullen played a massive part in Saints’ survival bid in the 2018/19 season scoring four goals in the final 10 games including the equaliser against Dundee United in the play-off final. Danny made 72 appearances for the Buddies, playing a role in our Championship winning season in 2017/18, after joining from Livingston in December 2017.

Gary MacKenzie is another who has been a major part of St Mirren’s successes in the last few years. Signing in July 2016 and scoring five goals in his first season at the club. Gary returned from injury in December of the 2017-18 Championship winning season– scoring an important winner against Queen of the South in his first game back and partnering Harry Davis at centre-back as promotion was secured to the Premiership.  Gary returned again in 2019 from injury and helped secure a win in the play-off final.

Cody Cooke joined St Mirren in July 2018 and scored his first goal in a Scottish Cup win over Alloa Athletic, Cody also scored St Mirren’s first Premiership hat-trick since 2013 in a 3-2 win away at Dens Park on the final day of the season. All in Cody made 27 appearances for the Buddies scoring five times.

Tony Andreu became Jim Goodwin’s first St Mirren signing when he joined in July 2019. The Frenchman made 36 appearances for Saints scoring twice.

Fellow Frenchman Oan Djorkaeff. Game time was limited for Oan with only six appearances under his belt but he did score the winner against Edinburgh City in the Betfred Cup in July.

Ross Wallace was a late addition to the squad having signed as a free agent in February 2020. He would only make three appearances for the Buddies, but boasted a good record with two wins and a draw. His final appearance was in the 1-0 win over Hearts in March in which he set up the winner for Jon Obika.

Vaclav Hladky became a firm fans favourite in his 18 months at Saints after joining the club in January 2019 from Slovan Liberec. The Czech goalkeeper played a huge role in St Mirren’s Premiership survival – saving three penalties in the penalty shoot-out win over Dundee United in the play-off final.

In 59 starts for the club Vaclav kept 17 clean sheets with his final one coming in the 1-0 win over Hearts which proved to be his last match for the Buddies.

The Club wishes every one of the players well in their ongoing careers.

Kibble psychologists to provide confidential support to footballers to help tackle mental health stigma

Kibble Group, a leading child and youth care charity, is offering mental health support to employees at St. Mirren FC.

Early this year, Kibble Group became a major shareholder of St. Mirren FC and created a unique partnership, as well as strengthening employment and training opportunities for Kibble young people, St. Mirren FC and the wider Paisley community.

Covid-19 has posed many mental health issues across the country, and with reports that 47% of Scots have experienced negative mental health issues since lockdown was implemented, now is a crucial time to ensure the wellbeing of the wider Kibble and St. Mirren team.

The service will offer staff, players and management private, online one-to-one sessions with Kibble’s psychologists as well as access to a confidential phone service manned by one of Kibble’s experienced staff therapists seven days a week.

The stigma surrounding men’s mental health in sport has increasingly been a subject of discussion, and this evening (Thursday, 28 May), in a BBC1 documentary the Duke of Cambridge meets with professional footballers to explore what role mental health plays in ‘the beautiful game’.

While Kibble will launch the service with St. Mirren FC, it hopes to open the confidential line up to professional footballers across the country, supporting them through the pandemic and beyond.

Chief Executive of Kibble and Director of St Mirren, Jim Gillespie, said: "Our number one priority throughout this pandemic has been to protect and support our staff as best we can, but it’s important to extend that support, where possible, to the players that need it.

"Our team of psychologists are hugely experienced, and we have recently seen the benefit of providing such a service when we offered residential care workers throughout the sector a ‘Safe Space to Talk’. With the additional stresses we have all faced as a result of the pandemic, it is more important than ever that we emphasise the value of taking the time to talk. It’s the ambition of the club to have a successful season and supporting players and St Mirren through mental health wellbeing will go a long way to achieving that."

Jim Goodwin, St. Mirren manager, said: "Football has long had a macho culture, and the human aspect of the game has often been overlooked, so it is vital that we make a conscious effort, especially at this time, to make sure our whole team is well looked after.

"Kibble gives us access to a range of expertise which can help us make St. Mirren the best team to work for, play for and, of course, support."

The online and phone sessions will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am – 6pm, and Thursday’s from 12pm – 8pm. Appointments will also be available at weekends where needed.

COVID-19 Week 11 Update (26th May 2020)

For generations, St Mirren has been a football club at the heart of the community.

You, the fans, have always been and continue to be firmly at the heart of the club. We asked you to look beyond the uncertainties of what lies ahead and 'Be In That Number' when the Saints go marching in for season 2020/21. The uptake of season tickets continues to amaze everyone and sales have now passed 1200.

#BeInThatNumber gives 2020/21 season ticket holders a personalised unique number, just like those on the Saints players’ shirts. We will be issuing these out to all season ticket holders over the coming weeks and have already issued the first 250. We look forward to you sharing them on social media with fellow fans.

Our first winning number is Ryan Watson (465), who will be the first person to own one of our new home shirts. The second winner is Gary Montgomery (889) who will have Tony Fitzpatrick as his host for a match at The Simple Digital Arena once it is safe for this to happen. As the weeks go by we will be announcing more winners.

The expected launch of the new home kit for the coming season is next month and we will give you more details in the coming weeks once we have more accurate delivery dates.

The continued investment from fans allows us to maintain the support of our Youth Academy, one of only three to receive five Star Elite status from the SFA. We want to acknowledge all the hard work being done by our academy coaches in developing the St Mirren stars of the future.

Working with players, from the under eights to the U20s, during a lockdown is especially difficult. However, the coaches are keeping in touch and finding ways to inspire them without the possibility of normal training sessions. We are incredibly proud of the work they do.

St Mirren Charitable Foundation

Over the course of the past week our coaches have made an additional 350 plus calls to households within our database. These calls identified another 20 families and individuals who required immediate support from mental health & wellbeing, to help with home schooling and practical assistance with food and essential item supplies. Those identified will have our full support and the support of our partners going forward and the team have thoroughly enjoyed checking in with everyone and sharing lockdown thoughts and experiences.

Last Wednesday, Tony Fitzpatrick and Gayle Brannigan were guests on the Paisley Trust Community Chat Show, we can’t thank Andy Campbell & Gary Kerr enough for the invite, we absolutely loved it, the banter was top notch. During the show Gayle was wearing my 'Straight Outta Paisley' St Mirren T-Shirt which the guys loved and as a result of that they came up with the great idea of selling them to raise funds for the Foundation.

We have now sourced a great supplier in Tracy Patrick of No8 Johnstone who prints all of St Mirren Women’s Team merchandise and should anyone wish to buy them they will be for sale from next Wednesday night when Andy & Gary will model them for us on the show.

Should you wish to purchase one you would make a £15 donation to our JustGiving page and add the message of 'Straight Outta Paisley' with your size and full name, them email gayle.brannigan@stmirren.com to provide your postal details.

We would like to thank Manorview Leisure in advance for the very large delivery of frozen meats they are donating to us this week which will provide us with nearly one full month’s worth of stock for the community fridges. Manorview were one of the first partners to come on board in week one of lock down and we thank them for their continued kindness & generosity.

And finally

We have managed our club through this pandemic in a manner we felt was in its best interests both morally and financially.

We continue to monitor our financial model 12 months in advance but, unless we get a clearer picture of what next season will bring, there will come a time when we will be forced to make some difficult decisions to ensure our club survives.

One of these decisions was to put season tickets on sale. We have made it clear that we are unsure what next season will look like but you have responded magnificently by getting behind the club and buying your tickets regardless. Make no mistake, without this support we would be in a much tougher position.

We also have players out of contract next month, many of whom have been pivotal in bringing us to where we are now in the Premiership and helping generate the income over the last four years that will go a long way to seeing us through this. We are still looking at ways of making sure all first team and academy players who would have been out of contract are supported in whatever way we can.

We are all still very hopeful that the season will start as planned and we will slowly but surely get back to whatever the new normal will be but it would be remiss of us to take that for granted.

We are prepared for whatever we need to do to make sure our club survives another 142 years and beyond!

Covid-19 Week 10 Update (19th May 2020)

You, the fans, are the most important part of the St Mirren FC family.

When we recently announced that season tickets for the next campaign would go on sale we did so in the hope and belief that you, our loyal supporters, would look beyond the COVID-19 uncertainties and take a leap of faith in the future by backing the club and committing to supporting our team.

You have already repaid that faith with first week season ticket sales approaching 1000. This is a magnificent response, thank you.

#BeInThatNumber, you deserve your own Saints number, just like the players on the pitch. That is why each 2020/21 season ticket will grant you one, starting at number 12 – recognising that the fans are our 12th man. That number will be yours to proudly own.

We will regularly give out prizes to the holder of a relevant number in St Mirren history, we will find out the first winner later this week when numbers are allocated to all those who have already committed to next season.

Look out for Jim Goodwin and Tony Fitzpatrick sharing special number shout outs on our social media channels in the weeks to come, with special Saints prizes for those chosen.

We are all in this together and by being in that number the fans and players will stand side by side throughout a season that will be unlike any other. #AllInThisTogether

St Mirren Charitable Foundation

Over the course of the past week or so our team of coaches have been calling every single household and individual we have on our database to check in and see how they are coping during lockdown and to identify if they have any areas where they require additional support whether that be practical, tangible or simply advice. The team have been doing a great job and will have all of the calls completed this Friday, they have highlighted many families who do indeed need help but just didn’t want to ask, we will be providing support to these families going forward. Please keep in mind that it is not a weakness to ask for help and that is exactly why we are here, all contact, calls and services are confidential. If you or someone you know is struggling and would benefit from a call please do not hesitate to get in touch, we are all in this together.

Prior to lockdown we had a full schedule of fundraising events planned for St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation this year which play a large part in our annual income. When KiltWalk was postponed like many other charities, we were devastated as we had estimated approx. £20,000 from that one day which for us is a large sum.

The fans, local business partners and players have been amazing and our JustGiving page is now sitting at over £6,500 which is incredible, we would like to thank every single person who has donated and provided support during this time. On that note this week we would like to extend special thanks to Ian Henderson of Henderson Properties, Mr Henderson made a generous donation directly to the Foundation and we are very grateful for this act of kindness and also for his thoughtful words of support.

Our good friends at Paisley Community Trust have invited St Mirren FC CEO Tony Fitzpatrick and Gayle Brannigan onto Paisley Community Chat Show at 8pm Wed 20th May to chat about all things St Mirren FC and all things Paisley. Thank you for inviting us, we are looking forward to it and hope you will all tune in, we will be streaming live on Facebook and YouTube.

Thank you for your constant faith and kindness.

And finally

While we would much rather have completed season 19/20 and pushed for a higher league position we are delighted to have finished in 9th place. Enormous credit must be given to Jim and all his staff for what they have achieved this season given the rebuilding job that was required and the time frame within which it had to be done.

Over the last 4 years we have seen year on year improvement both on and off the pitch and we are desperate to get the chance to continue that progress in the coming season.

However, this will be a season like no other we have ever witnessed in our lifetimes where we will need the unconditional support of both fans and sponsors alike to ensure that our great club survives no matter what prevails.

We all live in hope that the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel we are starting to see continues to grow but you can rest assured that your board of directors stand willing to take whatever actions are possible to ensure that we are safely playing football again next season and beyond in a stadium full of our fans.

Stay safe and #BeInThatNumber!

The poster competition was won by two kids who are attending the Trinity High school hub.

St Mirren Charitable Foundation

We are pleased to announce that we have secured a new Fruit & Veg partner to add to our seven other partners to date. We will release details in the club update next week and look forward to providing Star Project and all of the families within Renfrewshire who rely on the community fridge service the additional provision of this fresh produce from one of the longest running and most reputable local green grocers.

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded two pots of funding from recent successful applications. The first for £7,500 from National Lottery Awards For All Community Fund and a second pot of £7,000 from the Scottish Government Wellbeing Fund. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to both of these organisations for their advice and support during this challenging time.

Further to the enthusiastic and creative ideas for fundraising we have been thinking about hosting a regular #StripesOnFriday Live Streamed Chat Show with the help of our good friends at Paisley Community Trust. This would involve having themed nights and special guests like 'Captains Fantastic', along with a variety of our most popular St Mirren captains, managers night, cup winners night etc.

This would be a great opportunity to strut our stripes again, have a night out night in, get to talk about all things St Mirren with a small donation being made to the Foundation. We would love fan feedback on this and please feel free to contact us directly with your ideas etc on Twitter, Facebook or email gayle.brannigan@stmirren.com .

Once again, we would like to thank the club, our great team of staff, the fans and local community for your ongoing support, volunteer hours, food donations and kindness.

And finally

We are being quoted in the media as one of the clubs that has scuppered reconstruction talks.

We feel that it is important to put the record straight within our own support.

At the meeting our Chairman clearly stated that we were in favour of continuing reconstruction talks but only if it was a permanent change for the benefit of Scottish Football. We also made it clear that any final decision would be made by the St Mirren board.

Reconstruction is one of the points within the shareholders agreement that requires agreement between SMiSA, Kibble and Gordon Scott, so the board would never make a final decision without the correct protocol being followed.

With reconstruction off the table for now and today's resolution failing it is important now that we all concentrate our energy on finding a way to populate stadiums safely and get back to playing and watching the game we love.

Take care of yourselves and stay safe.
