Supporters raise money for Scottish Cot Death Trust

A bucket collection at the Simple Digital Arena before our match against Rangers at the end of August saw supporters raise £522.66 for the Scottish Cot Death Trust.

Sudden and Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) sadly takes the life of one baby or young child every nine days in Scotland.

The Scottish Cot Death Trust is the only Scottish charity dedicated to raising awareness & educating parents and professionals, funding research and supporting families devastated by the loss of a child, suddenly and unexpectedly.

With just six members of staff and a handful of regular volunteers, Scottish Cot Death Trust wouldn't be able to carry on without the support of fundraisers like these so your support is greatly appreciated.

If you would like more information about the work supporters have helped to fund, please get in touch by calling 0141-357-3964 or email fundraising@scottishcotdeathtrust.org

Prior to the match we would ask that you bring any of the listed items below that the Renfrewshire food bank so desperately needs and deposit them in the bins provided at each stand.

Match Report: Ross County 2-1 St Mirren

Marcus Fraser's injury time goal stole the points for Ross County as they defeated St Mirren 2-1 in Dingwall.

The Staggies captain finished from close range in added on time to sicken Saints who thought they'd done enough to earn a point after Tony Andreu levelled following Ross Stewart's opener.

Jim Goodwin had made one change to the side that lost 2-1 away to Livingston before the international break with Junior Morias coming in for his first start in place of Tony Andreu.

The game didn't really get going in the first half until the latter stages with only a long range effort from Ewan Henderson which dragged wide and a Kyle Magennis free-kick that was easily held by Ross County goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw all either side had to show in the opening 30 minutes.

It was, however, Magennis who almost opened the scoring on 37 minutes as Saints looked to turn the screw heading towards half-time. The stand-in skipper cracked the bar from 20 yards after a terrific driving run into the County half.

The first-half came to a close in controversial fashion as referee Colin Steven disallowed a Saints goal two minutes before the break. Laidlaw punched a free-kick away, but it fell to Sean McLoughlin whose low shot towards goal was touched home by Jon Obika inside the six-yard box. There was no flag forthcoming and after a bit of deliberating, Steven decided to disallow the goal feeling that Obika had been in an offside position when McLoughlin got his shot away. Subsequent TV footage appears to show that Obika was onside, but the half would finish goalless.

If the first half started slowly, the beginning of the second 45 was anything but. Less than two minutes after the restart Vaclav Hladky made a great save to turn a Harry Paton effort by the post. The Canadian midfielder played a neat one-two with Michael Gardyne before curling a low effort towards the far post.

Paton quickly turned from attacker to defender when Saints' Sam Foley looked to race one-on-one with Laidlaw. The Buddies midfielder ran on to a flick from Junior Morais after a quick counter but Paton made a terrific recovery to block as Foley looked to pull the trigger from the edge of the box.

It was the home side made the breakthrough just after the hour mark when Ross Stewart slammed home from close range. Richard Foster's cross evaded everyone in the box and found its way to the former Saints striker who, unmarked, took the ball down on his chest and blasted into the back of the net to put the home side ahead.

Saints looked for a quick response and almost got it within two minutes after County's opener with Magennis smashing off the post from the edge of the box.

The response would come less than 10 minutes later when substitute Tony Andreu scored his first goal for the club. It's one Laidlaw will want to forget after allowing the Frenchman's low free-kick to squirm underneath him and over the line.

It looked like Saints were going to take a point back to Paisley, but were hit by a stoppage time sickener as Fraser met a cross to win the game for County at the death.

Match Preview: Ross County v St Mirren (14th Sep 2019)

St Mirren are back following the international break as Jim Goodwin's side make the trip up to Dingwall to face Ross County in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

FORM

The Buddies go into tomorrow's match on the back of a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Livingston before the break.

Kyle Magennis pulled a goal back with a terrific strike from the edge of the area, but it wasn't enough to grab a share of the spoils after Alan Lithgow and Lyndon Dykes had the home side 2-0 ahead.

Saints have yet to win on the road this season with our last win away from Paisley coming at the end of last season when we defeated Dundee 3-2 at Dens Park.

The Buddies currently sit in 10th place in the Ladbrokes Premiership with three points from our opening four matches.

Newly promoted County are in 8th in the league - a point above Saints, having won one and drawn one of their first four.

A 3-0 win over Hamilton at the Global Energy Stadium on the opening day was followed up by a 0-0 draw at Tynecastle against Hearts.

But, like Saints, the Highland side have lost their last two in the league with a 4-1 defeat at home to Livingston followed up by a 3-0 loss away to Aberdeen, while they lost 3-2 to Partick Thistle in the Betfred Cup.

PREVIOUS

This will be the first time the two sides have met in over four years since Saints defeated County 2-1 in Dingwall in May 2015.

Martin Woods put Ross County in front that afternoon, but Stevie Mallan has the Buddies level less than 10 minutes later. Steven Thompson scored a 91st minute penalty to give St Mirren the win.

The previous visit in January 2015 saw the Buddies also win 2-1 despite Yoann Arquin being sent off for Saints in the first-half.

Ross County's last win over Saints was sandwiched between those clashes when Liam Boyce's hat-trick gave the Staggies a 3-0 win in Paisley in April 2015.

TEAM NEWS

Only Cody Cooke remains sidelined due to a long-term injury with everyone else available for selection.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS

"The incentive is that if we win the game we can jump above Ross County and maybe one or two others as well.

"I know Ross County well from last year having played against them with Alloa in the Championship. It's a very similar squad to that.

"They really went for it last year in terms of the quality of players that they brought in. They were building a team for the Premiership and it's no surprise to me that they've stuck with squad that they built last year.

"They are a group that's been together for a while now so they all know the ins and outs and they all know what the managers are asking of them.

"The two managers up there are doing a fantastic job."

St Mirren delighted to welcome Caledonian Tyres as new dugout sponsors

We are delighted to announce that Caledonian Tyres are the new dugout sponsors at The Simple Digital Arena.

Caledonian Tyres was established in 2006 under Barry McNeill. In August 2017 the ownership buy over took place under CEO Mr Nurez Abdulah Kamani & Director Mr Robert Keay. Caledonian Tyres are now a key supplier of Bandag re-treads to the Scottish tyre trade and transport industry.

To date Mr Kamani has invested over one million pounds to the business refurbishment & equipment at the Paisley Manufacturing Plant and has also created new jobs within the local community.

Commercial Manager, Campbell Kennedy said: "We are delighted to welcome Caledonian Tyres on-board as our new dugout sponsor for the 2019/20 season.

"The Caledonian Tyres brand will also be displayed in the Main Stand and an advert in the match magazine throughout the season.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to Director, Robert Keay and his staff who have been a pleasure to deal with and look forward to a long partnership."
