Harry Davis: Just remain calm and patient

St Mirren creeped another point closer towards claiming promotion to the Premiership on Saturday, as they drew with Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

Although The Buddies gained another point towards their end of season target, there was a sense of disappointment in the camp, as the team were leading 2-0 with 12 minutes left to play. But goals from Gary Warren and Liam Polworth pulled the Highland team level.

Speaking to Buddievision, Harry Davis revealed how the team are remaining positive at securing another point, despite feeling frustrated at losing a two goal lead so late in the game.

He said: "I think that's the way we have got to look at it - a point gained. It was an eventful day, obviously another point towards clinching promotion, but disappointed that we didn't win the game if I'm being honest.

"But it's another point towards the total and that's the way we have to look at it really.

"That's what we have said in there (dressing room), it's down from eight to seven. Although we were in a good position at 2-0 - looking fairly comfortable - and the disappointment of conceding two, although it hasn't happened much at all this season.

"So disappointed in that sense, but it is another step."

The Paisley side were in the driving seat after four minutes, when Davis converted a penalty after Danny Mullen had been brought down in the box. Morgan doubled the Saints' lead in the second half, when the winger scored a wonder freekick after being fouled on the edge of the area. But the game was tied 11 minutes later, as a quick-fire double from the Caley Jags in three minutes equalled things up.

He added: "It's demanding physically and mentally, and the conditions up here make it a tough place to come. The pitch wasn't ideal for playing our normal passing game, so it was a battle.

"For 70 odd minutes we were comfortable, but it has been two set plays that's been the difference and they've got back into the game from it. But, as I said, we'll look at it in a positive manner."

Although Davis did score from the penalty spot early on, he did have another chance from 12 yards at the end of the first half, which former Saints keeper Mark Ridgers managed to save to keep the score at 1-0.

He continued: "Nice to score a penalty, but obviously disappointed as well at the same time at missing one. I do look at myself and think, if I had have scored and we got in a 2-0 the second half maybe would have been more comfortable, so I've held my hands up in that sense. But mixed emotions today."

"I went down the middle and he's went the wrong way, but his trailing leg gets it. I just haven't lifted it enough away from his trailing leg. I try and mix them up whenever I can, but I'm disappointed I've missed."

"He was unbelievable. A very good performance from the keeper, he saved a lot of things, so he deserved his man of the match award. Which just goes to show the dominance that we had for that 70 odd minutes in the game; it was just the final 15 minutes that let us down."

This isn't Harry Davis' first endeavour at promotion though.

Back in 2012 Davis helped Crewe Alexandra to a League Two play-off victory which saw them promoted to League One. So the big defender knows the key to success.

Davis said: "Just remain calm, I mean there's still six games left, so there's still a lot of points to play for. Just remain calm and patient, everyone wants it done as soon as possible, but it doesn't always work out like that.

"So remain calm and keep doing what we've been doing this season, just have patience and belief. The team doesn't need any more belief though, we all believe in ourselves and each other to get the job done. We'll stay confident."

Nathan Flanagan joins Elgin on loan

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Nathan Flanagan has joined Elgin City on an emergency loan until the end of the season.

The 20 year-old spent the first part of the season on loan to League One side East Fife before being recalled in January.

All at St Mirren wish Nathan the best on his loan move.

We can also confirm that Darryl Duffy’s loan at Airdrieonians has been terminated due to injury.

Darryl scored four goals for the Diamonds after joining them on loan in January.

Loan Watch

During the January transfer window a number of players moved out on loan to play regular football. Here's a look at how some of them got on last weekend.

Josh Todd made his third appearance for Queen of the South after helping the Doonhamers to a win and a draw against Dundee United and Livingston in recent weeks. The midfielder played the full 90 minutes on Saturday but couldn't help prevent the Dumfries side from losing 3-1 away to Dunfermline.

Jordan Kirkpatrick was at the double for Jim Goodwin's Alloa as they defeated nearest rivals Arbroath 3-2 at the Indodrill Stadium. The Wasps had fallen 2-0 behind but completed the comeback with Kirkpatrick scoring the winner to move ahead of Arbroath into third place and all but seal a promotion play-off place.

Darren Whyte played the full 90 minutes for Forfar as they fell to a 2-0 loss away to Stranraer. The Loons are still four points ahead of bottom two sides Queens Park and Albion Rovers.

Robbie Leitch was an unused substitute as Queens Park picked up a point at home to Airdrieonians to move level on points with Albion Rovers. Darryl Duffy, who had been at Airdrieonians, has returned to St Mirren after an injury cut short his spell at the Diamonds.

In League Two, Nathan Flanagan - who completed an emergency loan move to Elgin City on Friday - made it a goalscoring start with City as he opened the scoring in their 3-0 win over Stirling Albion. Andrew McDonald also featured for City as a second half substitute. The win saw Elgin move up into fourth place at the expense of Danny Lennon's Clyde.

Evan Horne played the full match for Annan Athletic as they drew 0-0 with ninth place Berwick Rangers at Galabank.

Reaction: Jack Ross Post Inverness

Jack Ross gives his thoughts on today's 2-2 draw with Inverness Caley Thistle at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

The Buddies were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Harry Davis and Lewis Morgan, but had to settle for a point in the end.

Match Report: Inverness 2-2 St Mirren

St Mirren had to settle for a point away to Inverness this afternoon despite being 2-0 in front.

The Buddies took a fourth minute lead when Harry Davis converted from the penalty spot. The defender missed the chance to double Saints’ lead before the interval when he saw another spot kick saved.

Lewis Morgan scored with less than 20 minutes to go to give the Buddies a two goal advantage, but two goals in three minutes saw the hosts grab a share of the spoils at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

Danny Mullen was hauled to the ground by Coll Donaldson with just three minutes on the clock. There was no denying it was a penalty with Alan Newlands pointing to the spot. Harry Davis stepped up and coolly slotted the ball low into the far left corner beyond Mark Ridgers.

Saints were playing like a team possessed in the early stages with Mullen causing the Inverness defence all sorts of problems in the opening 10 minutes. He had another claim for a penalty when he fell in the box on nine minutes but the referee waved play on.

Liam Smith was unlucky not to make it 2-0 on 13 minutes. The full back charged on to a short corner, cut inside before driving an effort towards the far top corner. Ex-St Mirren goalkeeper Mark Ridgers made a great save to deny the loanee his third St Mirren goal.

Ridgers made another excellent stop on 28 minutes - this time to deny Lewis Morgan. The winger was found in acres of space on the left and smashed a shot at the near post with Ridgers tipping wide.

The Inverness stopper's day wasn't about to get any easier with the keeper forced into three vitals saves in a short space of time five minutes before half time. He saved a low shot from Morgan giving St Mirren a corner. Danny Mullen got on the end of it with Ridgers clawing away the forward's header. The ball was curled back into the box where Davis was pushed to the ground and Saints were given a second penalty of the match. The defender stepped up to take but couldn't add to his earlier goal with Ridgers denying the attempt with his trailing foot.

Half Time: Inverness 0-1 St Mirren

The opening 10 minutes of the second half were a quiet affair but it was stirred into life on 57 minutes when - from 25 yards out - Iain Vigurs curled the ball towards the top left corner. It looked certain to nestle into the postage stamp but crashed off the bar and went over.

Inverness had an appeal for a penalty waved away with Aaron Doran picking up a yellow card for simulation after he fell inside the box under pressure from Liam Smith just after the hour.

Mark Ridgers had been in fine form all afternoon and was at it once again when he made a brilliant stop to deny Lewis Morgan on 69 minutes.

But Inverness couldn't get the ball clear and it was worked back to Morgan on the left who was brought down right on the edge of the area to win Saints a free kick. Morgan who stepped up to take and he gave Ridgers no chance with this one as he curled it into the far corner and into the back of the net via the aid of the post. It was the forward's fourth goal in three games and it seemed like Saints were on their way to picking up all three points, but Inverness had other ideas.

They pulled a goal back through captain Gary Warren who got ahead of the St Mirren defence to head home from a corner kick on 78 minutes. Their tails were up and just three minutes later they had a leveller. The Caley Jags won a free kick around 25 yards from goal on the left side. Polworth was the man for it and he drilled it into the far right corner to earn a point for the hosts.

Match Preview: Inverness v St Mirren

St Mirren make the trip up to the Highlands tomorrow to face IRN-BRU Cup winners Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

The Buddies took a step closer to title glory with an emphatic 5-0 win over Dumbarton at the Paisley 2021 Stadium on Tuesday night. A double from Lewis Morgan along with goals from Cammy Smith, Danny Mullen and Gavin Reilly saw Saints see off the Sons in convincing fashion to make it four wins on the spin and move to within eight points of winning the Ladbrokes Championship.

Meanwhile, Inverness, fresh from defeating Dumbarton in the IRN-BRU Cup final last weekend, come into tomorrow's match on the back of a 1-0 win over Dundee United at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium on Tuesday. Aaron Doran grabbed the game's only goal just before the interval to see the Caley Jags move above Falkirk on goal difference in seventh place.

Saints have come out on top in all three meetings between the sides this season, but they've all been close contests. The first took place at the Paisley 2021 Stadium back in September. Lewis Morgan gave St Mirren a first half lead before an incredible 13 minute spell in the second half saw five goals scored. John Baird equalised for Caley Thistle on 61 minutes, but the Buddies re-took the lead two minutes later through Gregor Buchanan. Liam Polworth got Inverness on terms for a second time on 69 minutes, only for Cammy Smith and Ian McShane to score in the 73rd and 74th minute to give Saints the three points.

St Mirren came out on top again when they travelled up to Inverness in November. Second half goals from Ian McShane and Gavin Reilly gave the Buddies a 2-0 win at a rain-lashed Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

Inverness made their final visit of the season to Paisley in January, but again came away empty handed as Gavin Reilly's 20th goal of the season saw St Mirren win 1-0.

Tomorrow's match will likely be another close encounter with both sides aiming for different things. A St Mirren win would see the Buddies move to within five points of the title and a return to the Ladbrokes Premiership. For Inverness, they'll be looking for three points that moves them further away from the relegation play-off spots and keeps alive their feint hopes of reaching the promotion play-offs.
