Ethan Sutherland joins Alloa Athletic on loan

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Ethan Sutherland has joined Alloa Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

The 17-year-old St Mirren Youth Academy player will continue his football development at the cinch League One side for the remainder of 2023/24.

Manager Stephen Robinson said: "We think Ethan is a real prospect, but what he lacks is experience, a mentality and a determination when things go wrong.

"The only way you do that is when you are playing games. He’s not ready for the first team but going on loan will be the best for his development."

Saints travel to Easter Road on Saturday for our first away match of 2024.

Stephen Robinson's side were edged out by Rangers in our return to cinch Premiership action on Saturday. A first-half Cyriel Dessers goal was enough for the visitors despite Saints creating a number of good opportunities throughout the match.

The Buddies were victorious in our last away fixture - defeating Aberdeen 3-0 at Pittodrie at the end of December. Mark O'Hara, Jonah Ayunga and Greg Kiltie were on the scoresheet as Saints ended 2023 on a high.

Hibs sit three points behind Saints in the cinch Premiership having played a game less. Nick Montgomery's men are winless in their last five league matches having lost to Rangers (0-3), Hearts (0-1) and St Johnstone (0-1), while drawing 2-2 with both Kilmarnock and Motherwell.

Previous

Saints opened their cinch Premiership season with a 3-2 win at Easter Road in August. Goals from Mark O'Hara and Toyosi Olusanya had Stephen Robinson's side 2-0 ahead before Adam Le Fondre and Christian Doidge pulled Hibernian level deep into the second-half. But Alex Greive headed home in the final minute of normal time to see the Buddies take the points back to Paisley.

Despite goals from Scott Tanser and Keanu Baccus, Saints were beaten 4-2 at Easter Road in the quarter-final of the Viaplay Cup in September.

Neither side could be separated in the last meeting between the two back in November when Hibernian visited The SMiSA Stadium in cinch Premiership action. O'Hara and Lewis Jamieson twice got Saints level to earn a 2-2 draw after Josh Campbell and Joe Newell had the Hibees ahead.

Frustration for Saints after narrow defeat to Rangers

It's frustration because we felt we should have got something more out of the game."

Stephen Robinson was left disappointed after feeling Saints should have taken something from our defeat to Rangers.

Saints left frustrated after being edged out by Rangers

St Mirren were edged out by Rangers in our first cinch Premiership match since the winter break.

Cyriel Dessers' 14th minute goal was enough to give the visitors the points despite Saints creating a number of chances throughout the match.

Greg Kiltie made his 100th Saints appearance while Mark O'Hara returned to the starting line-up after a calf injury. Lewis Jamieson also started as the manager made two changes from the side that defeated Queen of the South in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup last week.

Rangers took the lead on 14 minutes when Dessers beat the offside trap to run on to a ball over the top from John Lundstram. The forward beat Zach Hemming to the ball and rounded the goalkeeper to roll into the empty net.

Saints looked for a quick leveller with Elvis Bwomono at the far post reaching a Scott Tanser cross two minutes later. The right-wing-back hit the effort into the ground but Jack Butland in the Rangers net managed to gather.

Hyeokkyu Kwon had Saints best chance of the first-half when he was found unmmarked in the Rangers area by Kiltie's cross, but the Korean midfielder side-footed high and wide from just inside the box.

Rangers went close to doubling their lead a minute later when a long-range strike from James Tavernier flew just by the post.

Saints were presented with a good opportunity on 27 minutes when Jonah Ayunga was fouled on the edge of the Rangers D. Jamieson stepped up to take the free-kick but fired well over. The 21-year-old had another big chance three minutes later when he was slipped in but his effort was saved by the feet of Butland with the offside flag raised in any case.

Kwon forced a good save from Butland in the final minutes of the first-half with an effort from 20 yards that the Rangers goalkeeper had to push wide.

Despite going in to the break behind, Saints had the better chances in the first 45 and Rangers responded by making two changes at the interval with Tom Lawrence and Ross McCausland replacing Scott Wright and Todd Cantwell.

The visitors quickly looked for a second early in the second-half with Tavernier curling wide from 20 yards before substitute Lawrence did the same from similar range a few minutes later. Dessers went close to his and Rangers' second on 54 minutes when his deflected effort came off the post.

James Scott makes his St Mirren debut

New signing James Scott was given his debut when he replaced Jamieson on 64 minutes, while Mikael Mandron also came on in place of Ayunga.

VAR checked for a St Mirren penalty as the game approached the final 10 minutes after Marcus Fraser went down in the box, but nothing was given.

Saints kept pressing in search of an equaliser and came agonisingly close when the ball fell kindly for Alex Gogic but his strike was blocked by some brilliant last-ditch defending from John Souttar. From the resulting corner James Bolton headed off the cross bar as it proved not to be St Mirren's day.

Jaden Brown joins on loan until the end of the season

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the loan signing of Jaden Brown from Lincoln City subject to clearance.

The 25-year-old left-back joins us on the temporary transfer until the end of 2023/24.

Capped by England to under-19 level, Jaden began his career at English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur but left for Huddersfield Town without making a senior appearance at the Lilywhites.

Jaden made 31 appearances at Huddersfield before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2021. He was part of the Wednesday team that secured promotion to the English Championship last season and moved on following the expiry of his contract in the summer.

Jaden joined Lincoln City in July 2023 and has played 15 times for The Imps, alongside St Mirren Youth Academy graduate Ethan Erhahon.

Speaking on his signing, manager Stephen Robinson said: "He’s a player that I’ve watched before and had an eye on going back to when he was at Huddersfield.

He’s got a really good pedigree. It’s important that we have cover and competition. He’s not coming to make up numbers.

"He’s coming to be competitive and keep pushing Scott Tanser on who has arguably been player of the season so far."

"With Thierry Small being recalled it’s really important that we have another option in that position. Jaden can also play higher up the pitch if need be and it gives us a more balanced squad."

Jaden told stmirren.com: "I'm buzzing.

"I've heard a lot of good things about the team, the manager and the town in general so I'm happy to be here.

I spoke to Ethan [Erhahon] and spoke to some other players as well. Ethan told me a lot about the players and the town so I felt really comfortable being here.

"I'm looking forward to it. It's a league I haven't played in before and every game will be a different experience."

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium

    BY ROAD

Follow signs for Paisley & Glasgow Airport. Exit the M8 at Junction 29 (St James’ Interchange) which is just after Glasgow Airport turn off if travelling east to west. Follow this road and after a sharp right hand bend you should now be in Greenock Road. Then take your first right on to Clark Street and drive to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the stadium on the opposite side of the road.

From the Town Hall cross the High Street towards the Piazza Shopping Centre, when acoss walk towards the town centre until you come to Gilmour Street. Turn right on to Gilmour Street and walk towards the railway station which is about 150 yards away. From there you can get train to Paisley St James or if you prefer to walk the following routes are advised by the police:
