Mural Design competition

The challenge of choosing winners of the SLO, Northbank & Marching On Groups' 'My First Match' kids mural competition is underway.

We received over 180 entries in total and hope to be in a position to contact two winners before 19th March as well as posting as many entries as possible on SLO social media after that.

The announcement of winners was intended to be before then but has been delayed due to the sheer volume of entries.

Many thanks to everyone who submitted a design, from individual entries, to school classes and kids groups. Also thanks to Stephen Gallacher of Street Stuff who helped promote the competition.

The above photo shows representatives from Supporter Liasion Officers, Northbank, Marching On, Street Stuff, St Mirren FC, and The St Mirren Charitable Foundation working their way through just some of the designs that were posted in.

Those sent electronically are currently going through a similar process.

A night to celebrate our cup winning legends

Mark your calendars!

We will be hosting a special dinner at the Normandy Hotel on Friday 13th October 2023 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of our League Cup win.

League Cup winning manager Danny Lennon, as well as goalscorer Steven Thompson will be in attendance with more names to be confirmed.

Full event details and ticketing arrangements will be confirmed in due course.

Delight as Mark O'Hara extends contract until 2026

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to confirm that Mark O’Hara has signed a two-year extension to his current contract which keeps him at the club until summer 2026.

The 27-year-old has become a firm favourite with the Saints support since joining the club as our first signing of the 2022/23 season in May. The midfielder has scored seven goals in 31 appearances this season and worn the captain’s armband on a number of occasions in the absence of Joe Shaughnessy.

Mark confessed his delight at agreeing a longer-term deal and said being at St Mirren feels like home.

Speaking to stmirren.com after penning his new deal, Mark explained: "From the moment I stepped through the door here it’s felt like home and I’m happy to commit longer term and focus on my football.

I spoke with the manager, and he wanted to make it a longer term and it was something I was obviously very keen to happen. It’s local and everything works and I’m so happy to be here.

"The changing room is amazing, the staff are amazing and it really does feel like home. We’ve not achieved anything yet but there is a really good feeling about the squad and it’s something I’m enjoying being a part of.

"In football there is always a bit of uncertainty but the fact that I’m going to be here long-term is massive."

Reflecting on the new deal, Saints manager Stephen Robinson praised Mark’s professionalism and dubbed him the ‘perfect footballer to manage’.

Mark is the epitome of the perfect footballer to manage," he told stmirren.com.

"He’s been my captain all season when Joe [Shaughnessy] hasn’t been playing. You never get any hassle from him. He gets on with things, he plays wherever you ask him to play and how ever you ask him to play.

"He's been fantastic and for us to tie him down for another two years is a great piece of business for the club."

10 Years On | Steven Thompson League Cup memories

On the 10th Anniversary of our League Cup Final win over Hearts, goalscorer and boyhood Buddie Steven Thompson shares his memories of the build-up to the final and what it meant to win a trophy with the club he supported.

Up Next: Dundee United v St Mirren (18th Mar)

St Mirren are back in cinch Premiership action on Saturday with Stephen Robinson's men travelling to Tannadice to face Dundee United.

The Buddies sit in sixth place in the cinch Premiership - a point above Livingston - with five matches remaining until the split. Saints weren't in action last weekend with the Scottish Cup quarter-finals taking place.

Having also been knocked out of the Scottish Cup, Dundee United too had a free weekend. However, Jim Goodwin's Arabs were in action last midweek as they drew 1-1 against Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena. With United rooted to bottom spot in the league, the point moved them to within three points of both Kilmarnock and Ross County in the battle for survival.

Previous

St Mirren have been victorious in the two meetings between the teams this season.

A Curtis Main double followed by a late Alex Greive goal saw Saints win 3-0 at Tannadice in August. That was our third win in a row against Dundee United at Tannadice having previously won 2-1 in January 2022 and 5-1 in January 2021.

Greive was on the scoresheet again when we hosted United at the SMiSA Stadium in October. The New Zealand striker scored a late winner as we defeated the Arabs 2-1 in Paisley.

The officials

The referee on Saturday is Craig Napier. He's assisted by David Roome and Andy Milne. The fourth official is Iain Snedden.

Colin Steven in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and he'll be assisted by Steven Traynor.

Boyd-Munce is a Buddie!

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Caolan Boyd-Munce on a deal until the end of the season - subject to international clearance - with the club holding an option to extend further in the summer.

The midfielder joins the club as a free agent having left English Championship side Middlesbrough in January.

The 23-year-old Northern Irishman began his career at Glentoran before moving to Birmingham City at the age of 16. He spent six years at Birmingham, with a loan spell at Redditch United included, before signing for Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee in January 2022.

Having been capped by Northern Ireland to U21s level, the midfielder knows Stephen Robinson well and says the manager didn't have to do too much to persuade him to sign for the Buddies.

Speaking to stmirren.com, Caolan said: "I had quite a few offers but none of them felt 100%. As soon as I had my first day in here I called my mum and dad and told them I thought this was the one.

I came in to train for a few days and when I got here I was put at ease because it was a cracking dressing room. The boys made me feel so welcome and the levels and intensity at training were brilliant.

"The manager knows how to get the best out of players and I'm really looking forward to working with him. He didn't really need to make much of a sell. Because I know him and he knows me he just told me how it is and what he needs from me and that was it.

"I like to play," he continued. "I wanted to come somewhere that I'm going to get the ball and there are players that want the ball. I want to play forward and control the game."

Speaking on the signing, manager Stephen Robinson said: "It's a short-term contract for Caolan to prove himself.

Caolan is a young international that I worked with previously as a young boy. He's technically very good. He's playing catch up fitness wise, but he has a great attitude and is someone that we feel if we can develop there may be something longer term for him.

"We're trying to fill the gap that we've had since Ethan [Erhahon] left. He's a similar type player to Ethan who I think we have missed.

"He can certainly be in the squad going forward and play 10/15 minutes in matches. But with the intensity we play at it might take him a bit of time to get up to speed.

"This deal is more a view to what we can do next season. We are trying to be proactive and have a look at positions we want but also being able to utilise him if needed this season."

Fraser Taylor and Luke Kenny agree contract extensions

We are delighted to confirm that St Mirren Youth Academy graduates Luke Kenny and Fraser Taylor have signed contract extensions until summer 2024.

The two have been training with the first-team this season with Fraser having made three appearances from the bench, while Luke had a short loan at Lowland League side East Kilbride.

Manager Stephen Robinson said: "Fraser and Luke have both been a part of our first-team squad all season.

We feel like they are the future and, combined with some of the more experienced players we are signing, we feel it's important to give these boys contracts and keep that chain of players coming through from the academy for next season.

"We have to try and improve that pathway for the academy players and if they are good enough they will play for me. Luke and Fraser are two of maybe three or four that we are going to keep on and it's important to have six or seven younger players that gives the club its identity.

"It's also nice to develop young players and it's up to them after that."
