Up Next: St Mirren v Livingston (1st Apr)

St Mirren's first-team return from the international break with a home match against Livingston in the cinch Premiership.

Saints host the Lions at the SMiSA Stadium in a big match in the race for top six. Stephen Robinson's side currently sit in seventh - a point behind Livingston who are in sixth with just four matches remaining until the split.

A win for the Buddies would move us back into the top six at the expense of Livingston. However, the Lions know that three points would strengthen their own top six hopes.

Saints drew 1-1 away at Dundee United prior to the international break with Mark O'Hara's second-half penalty seeing Stephen Robinson's men take a point at Tannadice. Livingston defeated Ross County 2-1 at the Tony Macaroni Arena in their last match before the break.

Previous

A late Alex Greive goal saw 10-men St Mirren defeat Livingston 2-1 at the SMiSA Stadium in October. In a dramatic final 20 minutes of the match, Keanu Baccus gave Saints the lead before Jonah Ayunga was sent off for a handball. Sean Kelly missed the resulting penalty for Livingston but, with just four minutes of normal time remaining, David Martindale's side equalised through Bruce Anderson. The drama wasn't done there with Greive scoring in the 90th minute to give Saints all the points.

Both sides were reduced to 10-men the last time we faced Livingston back in December at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Scott Pittman was shown red in the first-half for the hosts before Mark O'Hara was given his marching orders 10 minutes into the second-half. Cristian Montano gave Livingston the lead, but Curtis Main levelled soon after to give us a share of the spoils.

Alex Greive creates St Mirren history as he becomes most capped Saint

Alex Greive created a piece of Saints history as he overtook Iain Munro and the late Billy Thomson to become the most capped player while at St Mirren.

The 23-year-old forward was a second-half substitute for the All Whites in their 0-0 draw against China in Auckland. That took Greive to eight caps for New Zealand - all of which have come during his time at Saints – beating Munro and Thomson’s record of seven for Scotland.

We congratulate Alex on writing himself into the history books of the club.

With six caps, Alex Gogic could also overtake Munro and Thomson if he makes appearances for Cyprus against Scotland on Saturday and Armenia on Tuesday. Keanu Baccus - currently away on international duty with Australia - would go level with Munro and Thomson if he plays in both of the Socceroos' "Welcome Home" matches against Ecuador.

International call-ups: March 2023

St Mirren will be represented across the globe this international week with a number of players given the call by their country.

We take a look at those who will be away with their national teams this week.

Scotland

Murray Campbell was selected for Scotland U17s for their EURO elite round. The U17s will compete in Group 2 alongside Iceland, Montenegro, and Wales with the matches taking place in Wales.

The U17s face Wales on Wednesday (22nd March), Montenegro on Saturday (25th March) and Iceland on Tuesday (28th March).

Australia

Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain will represent the Socceroos in their "Welcome Home" matches against Ecuador.

Keanu was named in the initial 26-man squad after impressing during their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign in Qatar. He'll be looking to add to the five caps he's received for the Socceroos since making his debut in September 2022.

Ryan was given the nod to join up with the national team following the withdrawal of ex-Saint Aaron Mooy due to injury. The Saints full-back received his only cap to date in September in a win over New Zealand. Speaking on Ryan's late call-up, Australia boss Graham Arnold said: "Ryan has been playing well for St Mirren and deserves this call-up."

Australia host Ecuador in Sydney on Friday before facing them against on Tuesday in Melbourne.

Cyprus

Alex Gogic could face off against Scotland on Saturday after being called up by Cyprus.

The Cypriots face Scotland at Hampden Park on Saturday in the first match of Group A in UEFA Euro 2024 qualification.

Cyprus then face Armenia in a friendly on Tuesday 28th March.

New Zealand

Alex Greive is away with New Zealand for their two home games against China in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.

The 23-year-old forward has been capped seven times for the All Whites and scored twice.

Northern Ireland

While not a player, St Mirren assistant manager Diarmuid O'Carroll joins up with the Northern Ireland national team after being announced as a Senior Coach in Michael O'Neill's new look backroom staff.

Northern Ireland face San Marino on Thursday night before hosting Finland at Windsor Park on Sunday in UEFA Euro 2024 qualification.

Loan Watch: 20/03/2023

We have a number of our players out on loan at clubs across Scotland. Here's a look at how some of them got on at the weekend.

Toyosi Olusanya and Jay Henderson were both in cinch Championship action at the weekend. Toyosi played 45 minutes for Arbroath as they drew 1-1 with Morton at Gayfield - a result that moved the Red Lichties off the bottom of the league on goal difference. Jay Henderson played the full 90 minutes for Inverness who, despite holding a half-time lead, lost 2-1 to league leaders Queen's Park.

Dean McMaster started for Airdrieonians and played 65 minutes in their emphatic 7-0 win over Peterhead. That win came on the back of a 6-1 victory over Kelty Hearts the previous week and moved the Diamonds into the play-off spots at the expense of FC Edinburgh.

In the Lowland League, there was no Ewan Thomson for Cowdenbeath as the Blue Brazil lost 4-0 to Berwick Rangers. Dalbeattie Star - who have St Mirren Youth Academy player Gavin Gallagher on loan - weren't in action as their match against Hearts B was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

St Mirren Ticket Office closed on Monday (20th Mar)

The St Mirren Ticket Office will be closed on Monday 20th March.

The Ticket Office will be opened between 10am-2pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.

O'Hara nets as Saints pick up a point on the road

St Mirren picked up a point at Tannadice as Mark O'Hara's second-half penalty cancelled out an early Dundee United goal.

After a sluggish first-half, Saints were worthy of at least a point following an improved second-half performance.

Stephen Robinson made two changes with Charles Dunne suspended and Thierry Small dropping to the bench. They were replaced by Richard Taylor and Scott Tanser. New signing Caolan Boyd-Munce, who signed for Saints on Wednesday, was on the bench, while Tony Watt missed out entirely as he couldn't play against his parent club.

United started the better and hit the front after just three minutes through Steven Fletcher. The veteran forward was first on to a Richard Taylor headed clearance and volleyed home from 20 yards to give the home side an early lead.

The hosts went close to a second on 17 minutes when Aziz Behich sent a long-range drive just wide of the right-hand post. Three minutes later, Liam Smith had a decent opportunity when a cross from the left fell to the United full-back at the far post, but he fired into the side-netting.

After a frustrating start to the match, the Buddies started to take a grip on the game and had their best chance to level on 24 minutes when Loick Ayina's slip allowed Curtis Main to run in behind. The forward burst into the box but struck low into the arms of Mark Birighitti in the United goal. Despite having the better of the possession in the first-half, Saints failed to test Birghitti enough in the opening 45 and went into the break behind.

It would take 10 minutes into the second-half for the first real opportunity and captain O'Hara - fresh from signing a contract extension until 2026 - almost pulled Saints level. The midfielder slid into meet a Greg Kiltie cross and was only denied by a clearance from United skipper Ryan Edwards who cleared away to stop it crossing the line.

Stephen Robinson's men were pressing for an equaliser and Alex Greive had a decent chance on 63 minutes after a great delivery from Tanser on the left found the New Zealand striker in the United box, but he nodded wide. Saints thought they had levelled on 65 minutes when Richard Taylor headed home Ryan Strain's free-kick. The offside flag was raised and a lengthy VAR check confirmed the defender was off.

St Mirren were awarded a penalty on 70 minutes when Main went down under the challenge of Ayina after getting in front of the United defender. Another considerable VAR check ensued, but referee Craig Napier stuck with his original decision to award the spot kick. O'Hara stepped up to fire home his eighth goal of the season and draw us level heading into the final stretch of the match.

Neither side seemed content with a point with both chasing a winner. Behich missed a big chance for the hosts just minutes after O'Hara's leveller when he blasted over from close range, while Saints substitute Thierry Small sclaffed over from inside the United box. Small looked lively after replacing Scott Tanser and sent a dangerous ball across the face of goal with no takers before crossing for Main who flicked wide.

United almost snatched it in injury time when Kai Fotheringham cracked the post from the edge of the area. Trevor Carson then made a wonderful save to deny Mathew Cudjoe in the fifth minute of added time and when Saints couldn't clear the danger it allowed Ilmari Niskanen the chance to win it, but he somehow fired over from close range.

Greive was inches away from a spectacular late winner when he volleyed inches over from the edge of the area as both had to settle for a point.
