Manager issues rallying call ahead of Saturday's match

Stephen Robinson has issued a rallying call to supporters ahead of this weekend’s big match against Kilmarnock at the SMiSA Stadium.

A win on Saturday would guarantee a coveted first top six finish in the current league format, while a draw would also likely be enough given the superior goal difference over seventh place Livingston. A top six finish would see the Buddies secure their highest top-flight since season 1984/85.

The manager has called upon Saints supporters to turn out in their numbers once again this Saturday and show the brilliant backing they have all season.

Robinson told St Mirren TV: "This group of players have given St Mirren supporters things to shout about and results throughout the season that we haven't had in a long time.

We’re asking that they [supporters] come fill the stadium and get behind the boys.

"Nothing but positivity in the stadium will see us through and we'll create a real atmosphere to go and get the job done."

Tickets for Saturday’s match are selling fast online and at the St Mirren Ticket Office. Don't miss out! Get yours now to get right behind the Saints.

Stephen Robinson says Saints will go again ahead of big game next week

The manager gives his reaction following today's loss at Ibrox.

O'Hara double not enough as Saints defeated at Ibrox

A Mark O'Hara brace wasn't enough for Saints to take anything at Ibrox as three late Rangers goals gave the hosts all three points.

O'Hara struck twice either side of half-time to bring us level, but two goals in two minutes from Alfredo Morelos in the final 10 minutes as well as a Scott Arfield finish gave Rangers the win.

Boss Stephen Robinson made two changes to the side that defeated Hearts 2-0 at Tynecastle last weekend. Keanu Baccus dropped out of the squad altogether with a niggling knee injury to be replaced by Greg Kiltie, while Scott Tanser started in place of Thierry Small.

Rangers were awarded a penalty kick with just four minutes on the clock. Alex Gogic was penalised for a trip on Nicolas Raskin and referee Steven McLean pointed to the spot. The Ibrox side had been awarded penalties in both their previous games with the Buddies this season with James Tavernier scoring on both occasions, but this time the Rangers captain was denied by a brilliant Trevor Carson save. The Saints stopper dived to his right to push away the effort and despite a check for a retake none was forthcoming.

Saints forced a succession of corners a couple of minutes later but nothing came of them other than a 20 yard effort from Greg Kiltie that went well over.

The home side were dominating the bulk of the possession and had their best chance on 26 minutes when Fashion Sakala managed to wriggle clear of Marcus Fraser and get his shot away, but Carson did well to beat away the effort. The hosts would take the lead a minute later though when Todd Cantwell knocked Tavernier's low ball from the right in off the bar. There was a VAR check for offside but the goal stood.

The Buddies passed up a brilliant opportunity to go level when Kiltie robbed Ben Davies of the ball and drove forward but the Saints midfielder couldn't pick out Curtis Main who would have been one-on-one with Allan McGregor. Saints had another decent chance three minutes later when Kiltie shot straight at McGregor from 20 yards.

Charles Dunne made a brilliant last-ditch challenge to deny Rangers a second with five minutes of the half remaining. The hosts had players queuing up at the back post to meet Sakala's low ball across from the right, but the Saints defender got in just ahead of those waiting to pull the trigger.

Saints drew level in first-half stoppage time when Mark O'Hara scored his 11th goal of the season with a stunning volley. The midfield man controlled Kiltie's cross and it sat up beautifully for him to lash a super strike into the top corner via the post.

Rangers retook the lead just three minutes after the restart when Sakala headed home a Borna Barisic free-kick. Carson was then called into action twice in the space of a few minutes when he punched away a Tavernier free-kick that was heading for the top corner before clawing away Raskin's 20 yard effort.

The manager made two changes on 63 minutes when he introduced Small and Alex Greive in place of Tanser and Tony Watt. Two minutes later Saints were level a second time and once again it was O'Hara who got the equaliser. Small fed the ball wide to Strain whose cross was deflected high into the air. The Rangers defence couldn't clear their lines and O'Hara was on hand to finish from just inside the Gers box to make it 2-2.

Rangers made a triple substitution as Glen Kamara, Ianis Hagi and Scott Arfield entered the fray on 77 minutes. And the changes gave the hosts added impetus with Morelos netting twice in quick succession to take the game away from Saints. Arfield then got himself on the end of a Cantwell pass on 86 minutes to end the afternoon.

Saints' top six hopes go to the final game before the split with Kilmarnock the visitors to the SMiSA Stadium next Saturday.

St Mirren Women to play at SMiSA Stadium for second time this season

St Mirren Women’s team return to action at the SMiSA Stadium for the second time this season when they face Stenhousemuir in Scottish Women's League One at the end of April.

The Women's team defeated Westdyke 3-0 at the SMiSA Stadium back in November in what was their first match at the Stadium since May 2019.

Kate Cooper's Saints side sit in fifth place in Scottish Women's League One and take on fourth place Stenny in their return to SMiSA Stadium on Sunday 30th April.

Kate, St Mirren Women’s Head Coach, told stmirren.com: "Playing at the stadium is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the women's game.

"The last time we played at the stadium was such a special occasion for all involved and we'd love to have as many of the local community come out and support us again."

Last month, the club and Kibble agreed multi-year sponsorship agreements with the St Mirren Women to enhance the team’s day-to-day operations as the Scottish Women’s League One side seek to reach Scotland’s top-flight in the years ahead.

Tickets for this match will be available online and at the St Mirren Ticket Office early next week.

Kids have a ball at Street Stuff holiday camps

Across Renfrewshire, kids have been enjoying free Easter holiday activity camps.

The Street Stuff multi-sports camps, provided by Renfrewshire Council and St Mirren Football Club, have been fully booked during the whole Easter break with around 750 places taken each week.

Young people aged five to 14 enjoyed taking part in football, basketball, hand ball, hockey, badminton, tennis, dance and more, with activities happening twice a week in Ferguslie, Foxbar, Johnstone, Linwood and Renfrew.

Kids also got a free healthy lunch each day they attended, helping to target holiday hunger.

Councillor Marie McGurk, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Communities and Housing policy board, visited St Paul’s to find out how kids have been enjoying the experience.

She said: "It’s very clear that the kids have a great time running about, being with their friends and making new ones. School holidays are a time when children should enjoy having free time to play all day. It’s why we continue to put on Street Stuff holiday camps to ensure children can have a fun break from school and a free healthy meal, reducing children experiencing holiday hunger."

As an established and award-winning programme, Street Stuff is well known within the community and continues to provide fun physical and educational activities that support children and young people’s wellbeing during the whole year."

Street Stuff provide a range of free multi-sport, gaming and educational activities six evenings a week, Monday to Saturday, throughout the year to offer young people across Renfrewshire access to exercise and social activities that they may otherwise not have the chance to take part in. A healthy meal is provided to each young person as part of the council’s Winter Connections programme.

Up Next: Rangers v St Mirren (15th Apr)

St Mirren make the short journey to Ibrox on Saturday to face Rangers in our final cinch Premiership away match before the split.

Goals from Curtis Main and Alex Gogic saw Saints win 2-0 away to Hearts on Saturday in our first win at Tynecastle since 2013.

The Buddies have taken seven points from their last three matches and know a first ever top six finish in the current league format could be secured this weekend. A win at Ibrox would guarantee a top six finish, while other results could also go in Saints' favour even if Stephen Robinson's side don't manage a positive result at Ibrox.

Rangers will be aiming to bounce back from their first league defeat of 2023 after Michael Beale's side lost 3-2 against Celtic on Saturday. That was a result that saw the Gers fall 12 points behind their Glasgow rivals in the cinch Premiership with seven league matches remaining.

Previous

Neither side could be separated when Saints hosted Rangers at the SMiSA Stadium in the last meeting of the two back in November.

Jonah Ayunga scored early in the second-half to give Saints the lead before a late James Tavernier penalty gave the Ibrox side a share of the spoils.

Rangers won 4-0 when the Buddies visited Ibrox in October, though that result probably didn't tell the full story of the match with Stephen Robinson's side creating a couple of good chances in Glasgow before conceding two goals in the final 20 minutes.
