Can you help your fellow Buddies?

Ahead of what is set to be one of the toughest winters to date, St Mirren Football Club has launched a new initiative to collect warm clothing and jackets that we can then distribute throughout the local community.

We are asking that any fans attending home matches this week against St Johnstone on Wednesday 9th November and Rangers on Saturday 12th November bring along any warm items of clothing that they no longer require. We are hoping to collect as many winter jackets, jumpers, scarves, hats, gloves, boots and blankets as we can.

We’ve teamed up with Kibble and Scottish Leather Group to collect and distribute the clothing and ask that you hand in any donations at entrance points when arriving at the SMiSA stadium for the matches.

We’ll also be opening our doors to anyone not attending the matches this week. Items can also be dropped off at the SMiSA Stadium reception between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. Likewise, winter clothing can be donated from Wednesday 9th November to Wednesday 16th November at the Security Gate for Scottish Leather’s Group’s Paisley factory on Turner Drive, Paisley PA3 4EP. Weekday drop-off hours at Scottish Leather Group are between 8am and 6pm, with weekend hours between 10am and 2pm.

We’ve been overwhelmed with generosity from fans to date and hope that, if you are able, you can support this new initiative and help a Buddie out.

VAR

Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be in place.

VAR is coordinated centrally from the video operations room at Clydesdale House, which shares its name with Clydesdale FC, a founding member of the Scottish FA that also revolutionised the Laws of the Game with the introduction of the modern-day throw-in.

VAR will be operated in line with the FIFA Laws of the Game using Hawk-Eye technology and with SPFL production partner QTV providing the central facility.

Video Assistant Referees at Clydesdale House will assist on-field referees in the event of a clear and obvious error or a serious missed incident in relation to the following criteria:

  • Straight red cards
  • Penalty area incidents
  • Goals
  • Mistaken identity

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium

History made as Keanu Baccus gets set for the World Cup

Keanu Baccus is going to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after being named in Australia's 26-man squad.

The 24-year-old makes history as he becomes the first ever player to be called up to the World Cup while at St Mirren.

Australia will face France, Tunisia and Denmark at the tournament in Qatar later this month.

Keanu will live out his dream of representing the Socceroos at the biggest stage of world football and everyone at St Mirren is delighted for him.

Our congratulations go to Keanu on this magnificent achievement and we wish him all the best during his time away.

Loan Watch: Lewis Jamieson nets in third match in a row

A number of our younger players are currently out on loan at clubs across Scotland. Here's a look at how some of them got on at the weekend.

Lewis Jamieson kept us his fine form with the winner for Airdrieonians on Saturday. Lewis - who scored a hat-trick the weekend previous in a 4-0 win for Airdrieonians against Montrose - netted the only goal on Saturday as the Diamonds defeated Clyde 1-0 at Broadwood. It's now five goals in his last three matches with Lewis also having scored in a 3-1 loss to FC Edinburgh in October. Dean McMaster was an unused substitution for the Diamonds.

Also in League One, Kieran Offord came on as a substitute for Alloa Athletic as they were held to 1-1 draw with Kelty Hearts at New Central Park. The 18-year-old replaced veteran striker Connor Sammon in the 69th minute.

17-year-olds Aiden Gilmartin and Ewan Thomson both featured for Cowdenbeath in their 1-0 win over Cumbernauld Colts in the Lowland League. Gilmartin started the match, while Thomson was a second-half substitution.

Up Next: St Mirren v St Johnstone (9th Nov)

It's a battle of the Saints on Wednesday night as St Mirren host St Johnstone at the SMiSA Stadium.

Despite defeats away to Hibernian and Ross County over the last two weeks, the Buddies' home form has been excellent this season with five wins, one draw and one loss from seven cinch Premiership matches this season.

That home form has gone a long way towards Saints' total points tally of 19 points - just three points off third place Aberdeen.

St Johnstone will be coming into Wednesday night's match in buoyant mood following a 2-1 win over Rangers at McDiarmid Park on Sunday. Goals from James Brown and Nicky Clark were enough for the Perth side to pick up the three points and move up to sixth place on 19 points. That was a third win in a row for Callum Davidson's men having also defeated Kilmarnock (1-0) and Hibernian (2-1) in recent weeks.

St Johnstone came out on top in the only meeting of the two so far this season with the Perth Saints winning 3-0 at McDiarmid Park in August.

Saints defeated St Johnstone at the SMiSA Stadium in February when Callum Davidson's men last visited Paisley in cinch Premiership action. Despite the visitors taking the lead, goals from Connor Ronan and Alex Greive either side of half-time gave the Buddies a 2-1 win.

St Mirren are undefeated in their last six home matches against St Johnstone - a run stretching back to 2018. The Buddies have won three and drawn three of the last six.

Stephen Robinson says we need to do basics better

It doesn't matter what system you play if you don't follow your runners into the box. We need to get back to doing the basics well."

The manager gave his reaction to our 3-2 defeat to Ross County in the cinch Premiership.

St Mirren edged out by Ross County in the Highlands

St Mirren were defeated on the road as Ross County came out on top by the odd goal in five at the Global Energy Stadium.

The Highland side took an early lead, but Saints went into half-time ahead thanks to goals from Ryan Strain and Mark O'Hara. Two goals in four second-half minutes saw County take the points though on a frustrating afternoon for the Buddies.

Stephen Robinson made one change from the side that lost to Hibernian last week with Declan Gallagher returning from a back injury in place of Richard Tait who missed out after an issue with his groin.

The home side started brightly and struck first on 10 minutes when a deep cross from Victor Loturi was met by Jordan White who swept home from close range to give County the lead.

But St Mirren bounced back just three minutes later when Strain made it 1-1 in stunning fashion. A foul by Ross County captain Jack Baldwin saw Saints awarded a free-kick 25 yards from goal. Up stepped the Australian full-back who curled brilliantly into the top corner to draw the Buddies level.

County were having the better of the play as the half wore on, forcing a couple of corners which came to nothing while White fired over from the edge of the area on 34 minutes. Alex Gogic then made a good block after a driving run from George Harmon saw the County man try to get his shot away from 20 yards.

The game looked to be going into the break level, but into stoppage time at the end of the half Saints took the lead. O'Hara rose the highest to meet a corner kick and it looped over the goalkeeper and off the post before creeping over the line. Jonah Ayunga was on hand to ensure there was no doubting it hit the net, but it had already crossed the line.

County levelled the game 11 minutes into the second-half. A cross from Loturi on the right was headed only as far as Jordan Tillson whose strike from 18 yards found the net via the post to make it 2-2. County made it 3-2 four minutes later when Harmon glanced home Owura Edwards-Owura's cross from the right.

The manager made several changes as Saints tried to find a way back into the match. Scott Tanser, Alex Greive, Eamonn Brophy and Greg Kiltie were all introduced and with five minutes remaining Saints had a big chance for an equaliser when a loose ball broke through to substitute Greive who burst into the box, but his effort was saved by the feet of Ross Laidlaw.

Saints had all of the ball in the closing minutes as they looked to fashion an opportunity that would give them a chance take a point, but that chance didn't come and the Buddies made the journey back to Paisley empty-handed.
