New St Mirren Tartan launched

We are delighted to have launched the brand-new official St Mirren Football Club Tartan.

The St Mirren Tartan is a collaborative design between St Mirren and Slanj Kilts, the established Glasgow kilt shop. The tartan is based on the team colours using a black, white, grey and red thread combination to stylish effect.

St Mirren Tartan also features in the club store in the form of Hip Flasks, Underwear, Cushions and the ever-popular Tartan Scarves.

Slanj’s hire range now includes the tartan with kilt outfits and other wedding accessories available to view online at slanjkilts.com. Slanj are pleased to now offer St Mirren tartan kilts to hire or purchase alongside tartan trews, waistcoats, ties, bow-ties and smaller tartan accessories.

St Mirren Commercial Manager Campbell Kennedy said: "We are excited to be teaming up with Slanj Kilts to bring this stylish new St Mirren Tartan to life.

"Based on our traditional colours, the St Mirren Tartan will feature on a number of products in the club shop and we’re sure it’ll be a hit with our supporters."

St Mirren Women’s team will take to the field at the SMiSA Stadium for the first time since 2019 when Kate Cooper’s side host Westdyke on Sunday 20th November.

The Women’s team created history in May 2019 when they played their first ever match at the SMiSA Stadium – defeating West Park FC in the then SWFL Division Two.

St Mirren Women’s Head Coach Kate Cooper said: "Everyone attached to the women's team is excited to be playing at the SMiSA Stadium for the first time since 2019.

Alex Gogic: Squad feels like a family

Alex Gogic says everyone is pushing each other to get better in a squad that feels like family.

Up next: Ross County v St Mirren (5th Nov)

Saturday sees St Mirren's final away day before the World Cup break as Stephen Robinson's side head to Dingwall to face Ross County.

Saints will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday. Despite defeat, the Buddies excellent home form this season, sees us sit just a point off third place in the cinch Premiership. In our five matches in October we won two, lost two and drew one.

Ross County are bottom of the cinch Premiership with nine points from their opening 13 matches. Malky Mackay's side have lost their last two - losing 2-1 to Hearts on Sunday, while suffering a 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Despite sitting on the bottom of the table they only do so by virtue of goals scored with Dundee United also on nine points as well as having the same goal difference as the Staggies.

A win could propel Saints to third place in the league depending on the score between Aberdeen and Hibernian on Friday night. County know a win could move them off bottom spot as we edge closer to the World Cup break.

Previous

St Mirren and Ross County have faced off already this season with a stunning Richard Tait goal the difference when Saints defeated the Staggies 1-0 at the SMiSA Stadium in August.

There was very little to separate the sides in the three meetings last season with both winning one each and the other ending in a draw.

Eamonn Brophy, Marcus Fraser and Scott Tanser scored when Saints defeated County 3-2 at the Global Energy Stadium last October.

Despite creating an abundance of chances in the following encounter in December, the Buddies were held to a 0-0 draw at the SMiSA Stadium.

A Joseph Hungbo penalty was enough to see Ross County win 1-0 in our only visit to the Global Energy Stadium in 2022.

We'll reset and go again, says manager

We weren't good enough to get a result today. We'll reset on Monday morning and make sure we learn from what we can be better at."

Stephen Robinson admitted St Mirren didn't deserve anything in our defeat against Hibernian, but we'll look at what can be done better ahead of next weekend's trip to Ross County.

St Mirren defeated by Hibernian

St Mirren were beaten by Hibernian in the cinch Premiership as the Buddies fell to a 3-0 defeat at Easter Road.

VAR drama saw Hibernian denied an early goal and awarded a penalty kick in what was a well-contested first 45. Martin Boyle tucked the penalty away in the dying seconds of the first-half before a quickfire double from the hosts in the second-half saw Lee Johnson's side pick up the points.

Stephen Robinson elected to name the same starting eleven that defeated Dundee United at the SMiSA Stadium last weekend with Scott Tanser and Declan Gallagher still unavailable.

It was a game that didn't take long to get going. Hibernian thought they'd taken an early lead when Mykola Kuharevich slid in to knock home a low cross from the left by Marijan Cabraja. However, after a quick VAR check, referee Don Robertson disallowed the goal as Cabraja had strayed into an offside before his cross. The hosts didn't seem fazed by the decision though and really should have taken the lead just 60 seconds later when Ryan Porteous knocked inches by the post from close range.

After struggling to get a grip of the game in then opening 15 minutes, Saints were denied an opener on 16 minutes after a brilliant save from Hibees' goalkeeper David Marshall to push Jonah Ayunga's strike wide. Marshall's counterpart Trevor Carson made a save that was every bit as good a few minutes later when he blocked Martin Boyle's effort at the back post.

It was real end-to-end stuff with Marshall pulling off another big stop to deny Curtis Main with the big forward then nodding over from the resultant corner. Hibs immediately hit Saints on the counter and Ewan Henderson would have been disappointed he didn't hit the target when he skewed his effort wide.

There was VAR drama right before the end of the first-half and this time the decision went against Saints with the hosts awarded a penalty. A ball into the box came off the hand of Richard Tait and after a check at the monitor on the side of the pitch, referee Don Robertson awarded the spot-kick. Boyle sent Carson the wrong way to put Hibernian ahead on the stroke of half-time.

St Mirren struggled to get going after the break and Hibs scored two in four minutes just after the hour mark to put the game beyond Saints. Kuharevich outmuscled Alex Gogic in the Buddies' box on 63 minutes before firing beyond Carson to make it 2-0. Henderson added a third on 67 minutes with a really good finish into the top corner from 20 yards.

Saints were dealt a further blow with 10 minutes remaining when Charles Dunne went down injured and had to be replaced by Jay Henderson. It was a disappointing end to a frustrating afternoon for the Buddies.

St Mirren Supports Show Racism the Red Card

St Mirren Football Club is proudly continuing its support for Show Racism the Red Card’s Match Actions Campaign during our match against Hibernian on Saturday 29th October.

Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism Education Charity, and our club has supported their messages of tolerance and inclusion for many years. Now more than ever, the importance of active anti-racism cannot be overstated.

Across Scottish football, clubs will show their commitment to anti-racism over one weekend – Friday 28th, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October. In doing so we can raise the profile of year round commitment to anti-racism within football. Show Racism the Red Card works within schools, workplaces, sport, and community organisations to educate children, young people, and adults on challenging prejudice and stereotypes, using the power of football as a powerful tool to initiate conversations about anti-racism. They ran educational programmes with over 10,000 participants here in Scotland over the past year.

Here at St Mirren we recognise the importance of being alert to the inequalities that persist due to racism. A recent SRtRC survey revealed 46% of staff are aware of racist bullying or discrimination in Scottish schools, while 66.4% are aware of pupils expressing misconceptions, stereotypes, or negative attitudes that are racist.

Chris Priestley, from Show Racism the Red Card had this to say; "We are delighted with the support for anti-racism that exists within Scottish football and are very proud of our upcoming match actions. However the work must continue. We call on our supporters to continue to challenge racism. It is a shared responsibility across the game, from dressing rooms to boardrooms, and from stadiums to social media, to ensure that an anti-racism ethos is maintained throughout the year."

St Mirren stands with everyone who has had to endure racial prejudice in all areas of their lives. We condemn all forms of racism and any racist behaviour will not be tolerated at our club.

Football is a sport that is loved across the world and football matches should be an enjoyable experience for everyone, of all backgrounds. Education is the key and St Mirren will support Show Racism the Red Card to ensure Scotland is equipped with the tools to challenge and eradicate racism from football and society.
