VAR in place at tomorrow's match

Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be in place this weekend for the first time after nearly three years of planning, development and testing.

VAR will be coordinated centrally from the video operations room at Clydesdale House, which shares its name with Clydesdale FC, a founding member of the Scottish FA that also revolutionised the Laws of the Game with the introduction of the modern-day throw-in.

VAR will be operated in line with the FIFA Laws of the Game using Hawk-Eye technology and with SPFL production partner QTV providing the central facility.

Video Assistant Referees at Clydesdale House will assist on-field referees in the event of a clear and obvious error or a serious missed incident in relation to the following criteria:

  • Straight red cards
  • Penalty area incidents
  • Goals
  • Mistaken identity

The Scottish FA have put out a VAR Explainer video that can be viewed below.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

Follow signs for Paisley & Glasgow Airport. Exit the M8 at Junction 29 (St James’ Interchange) which is just after Glasgow Airport turn off if travelling east to west. Be careful not to exit on to the A737 which is signposted for Irvine. It is best to stay in the middle lane when passing the Airport as this leads naturally to the St James’ Interchange exit.

At the interchange take the first left onto a dual carriageway with some football parks on the left hand side. Follow this road and after a sharp right hand bend you should now be in Greenock Road. Then take your first right on to Clark Street and drive to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the stadium on the opposite side of the road.

    BY BUS

Most buses will stop at Paisley Cross or Mill Street, from both you will see the Paisley Town Hall. From the Town Hall cross the High Street towards the Piazza Shopping Centre, when acoss walk towards the town centre until you come to Gilmour Street. From there you can get train to Paisley St James or if you prefer to walk the following routes are advised by the police:

Match Postponed: Celtic v St Mirren (14th Jan 2023)

Our cinch Premiership fixture away to Celtic, originally scheduled for Saturday 14th January 2023, has been postponed due to Celtic's involvement in the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup.

A new date for the match against Celtic will be announced in due course.

Up Next: St Mirren v Dundee United (22nd Oct)

St Mirren host Dundee United at the SMiSA Stadium on Saturday in cinch Premiership action.

There's just five games to go until the split for World Cup 2022 and Stephen Robinson's side sit in fifth place in the cinch Premiership following last weekend's goalless draw with Kilmarnock.

That draw made it five unbeaten at home for the Buddies who have taken 16 points from their opening 10 cinch Premiership matches - 13 of which have come at the SMiSA Stadium.

Two wins and a draw in their last three matches have taken Dundee United off the foot of the table albeit only by virtue of goals scored as they sit level on points and goal difference with bottom side Ross County.

Liam Fox - who took permanent charge of the Arabs in September - has guided his side to wins over Aberdeen (4-0) and Hibernian (1-1) while drawing 1-1 with Ross County in Dingwall.

United go into Saturday's match having lost 2-1 to Kilmarnock in the quarter-final of the Premier Sports Cup on Tuesday night.

Previous

The two sides have already met this season with St Mirren defeating Dundee United 3-0 at Tannadice in August. Curtis Main scored either side of half-time before Alex Greive put the seal on the win in injury time.

Saints have lost just one of their last seven against the Arabs. That defeat came at the SMiSA Stadium back in March when Marc McNulty scored deep into stoppage time to give United a 2-1 win. Before that, the Buddies were unbeaten in four at home against United.

Points shared in stalemate

Saints and Killie drew a blank in a goalless, if entertaining, draw in Paisley.

Saints had the better of the chances in the first half with Jonah Ayunga and Ryan Strain going close before Curtis Main was inches away from putting the Buddies in front with a header just before the interval.

After the break it was Trevor Carson who was the busier of the two goalies, saving from Kyle Lafferty before a brilliant double save denied first Rory McKenzie then former Buddie Jordan Jones.

Ayunga returned to the Saints side after completing his suspension with Strain also back in the team, Alex Gogic and Alex Greive the pair dropping to the bench. Former Saint Alex Power captained the visitors, who brought in Joe Wright and Ryan Alebiosu at the expense of Lewis Mayo and Ben Chrisene.

The visitors started on the front foot, forcing a series of corners that ended when Ash Taylor headed well over. It was the Killie goalie who was called into action first though, Zach Hemming using his legs to block Ayunga's shot at his near post. The forward then unwittingly turned defender as he got in the way of Keanu Baccus' low drive and deflected it wide.

Alebiosu was beginning to get some joy on the Killie right, striding forward before switching the ball to his left foot and curling a shot narrowly beyond the far post. Some silky footwork from Curtis Main allowed him to get some space for a slightly ambitious shot that was deflected wide, Strain's teasing corner that followed just beyond the reach of anyone in black and white.

Carson was called into action for the first time when he easily caught Blair Alston’s shot. Hemming was tested rather more moments later when a cross was headed back out to Strain, whose drive from the edge of the box was tipped over by the Killie goalie. Just before the break Saints could have been in front when Main got down to meet a Scott Tanser cross but he headed it inches past the post.

Saints nearly presented Kilmarnock with the opener at the start of the second half as the ball was blocked and fell to Kyle Lafferty and be gratefully raced towards goal only to be denied by the outstretched leg of Carson. Main then set up Tanser for a shot but his effort was always going over before Danny Armstrong curled a decent effort just past the Saints goal.

Power went into the book when he brought down Ayunga just outside the box, Tanser curling the resultant free-kick well over the bar.

When the Saints defence failed to deal with a cross it gave Rory McKenzie a great opening but Carson pulled off a great save before getting up to brilliantly deny Jordan Jones from the rebound and finally pounce on the loose ball to end the danger.

Alex Gogic, who had replaced Ethan Erhahon, was soon booked after bringing down McKenzie when he tried to regain control of the ball. It gave Killie a free-kick in a decent position but Armstrong put it miles over. Saints were given a free-kick of their own a bit further out but that didn't deter Mark O'Hara, however the Saints skipper's effort was easily dealt with by Hemming.

Declan Gallagher's header from a corner skimmed the side netting before Killie sub Christian Doidge headed wide as injury time began. There was to be no repeat of the late drama last time Saints were at home, the two sides having to settle for a point.
