Stephen Robinson gives his assessment on today's win over Dundee.
St Mirren secured their status in the cinch Premiership after a dominant performance against Dundee.
Goals either side of half-time from strikers Alex Greive and Curtis Main gave Saints a 2-0 victory and that result saw Saints move above Aberdeen into ninth and to within three points of seventh spot.
The Saints couldn't have wished for a better start - taking the lead with just four minutes on the clock. Charlie Adam inexplicably played the ball across the face of the Dundee box straight to Greive who knocked home from close range.
The Buddies almost had a second on 20 minutes when Main rose above the visitors defence to power a header towards the far corner, but Dundee goalkeeper Harry Sharp made a wonderful save to tip it wide.
Greg Kiltie was inches away from making it 2-0 three minutes later when he drove an effort wide from 20 yards.
After a comfortable first-half for Saints, the away side came out the brighter after the interval and had two big chances in the space of two minutes to level. Jak Alnwick made a brilliant one-handed save on 47 minutes to claw away Ryan Sweeney's header before a stramash in the box saw the ball fall to Jordan McGhee just a few yards from goal, but the defender knocked it off the post with Alnwick managing to gather.
Saints weathered that early storm and doubled their advantage 10 minutes into the second-half. Main brought down Marcus Fraser's cross-ball with an incredible first touch before lashing a thunderous effort into the top corner.

That goal killed the game off with Stephen Robinson's side able to see the rest of the match out comfortably to ensure Premiership football next season and continue the push for a seventh place finish.

A special presentation will be made to Tony Fitzpatrick at half-time of tomorrow’s match against Dundee to thank him for his service to St Mirren following his retirement as Chief Executive.
Tony served St Mirren with distinction during a wonderful career as a player, manager and Chief Executive.
Beginning his Saints journey almost 50 years ago, Tony Fitzpatrick’s name has been synonymous with St Mirren since making his debut way back in 1973.
As a player, Tony made over 450 appearances for the Buddies and remains the second highest appearance maker in club history behind Hugh 'Shuggie' Murray. These two spells as a player saw him captain the club, play in Europe and in our Scottish Cup win in 1987.
He would then hold the position of manager twice as well as five years as Chief Executive before transitioning to his new role as club ambassador.
St Mirren season ticket holders who cannot attend the match can watch live on St Mirren TV. Season ticket holders who wish to access St Mirren TV should click this link and follow the instructions in the article.
The match will also be live on St Mirren PPV at a cost of £14.99. Due to UEFA broadcasting restrictions, PPV will not be available in England.
John Hillcoat joins match day host Ali DeFoy, while Lee Mair is on co-commentary duty. Coverage starts from 2:45pm.
There will also be live match updates on our Twitter account @saintmirrenfc.
At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.
The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:
The whole process will only take a few seconds.
Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.
The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.
Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.
Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.
St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.
We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.
Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.
BY ROAD
Follow signs for Paisley & Glasgow Airport. Exit the M8 at Junction 29 (St James’ Interchange) which is just after Glasgow Airport turn off if travelling east to west. Be careful not to exit on to the A737 which is signposted for Irvine. It is best to stay in the middle lane when passing the Airport as this leads naturally to the St James’ Interchange exit.
At the interchange take the first left onto a dual carriageway with some football parks on the left hand side. Follow this road and after a sharp right hand bend you should now be in Greenock Road. Then take your first right on to Clark Street and drive to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the stadium on the opposite side of the road.
BY RAIL
Get train from Paisley Gilmour Street to Paisley St James – exit from the station is straight onto Greenhill Road where the stadium is facing you. To plan your journey by rail with Scotrail please click HERE.
BY BUS
Most buses will stop at Paisley Cross or Mill Street, from both you will see the Paisley Town Hall. From the Town Hall cross the High Street towards the Piazza Shopping Centre, when acoss walk towards the town centre until you come to Gilmour Street. Turn right on to Gilmour Street and walk towards the railway station which is about 150 yards away. From there you can get train to Paisley St James or if you prefer to walk the following routes are advised by the police:
Home fans: cross road to the left on to St James Street – follow through up Underwood Road then turn right at Greenhill Road where stadium is 200 yards further along the road. Access to the Main Stand is from Greenhill Road and the South and West Stands will be accessed from Drums Avenue.
Away fans: cross road to Love Street continue up the street till you come to Albion Street where you will turn left. Follow Albion Street until you come to the junction with Greenock Road where you will turn right. Cross the road then walk about 200 yards before taking your first left on to Clark Street. Walk straight up Clark Street to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the the stadium on the opposite side of the road. Access to the North Stand will be from Ferguslie Park Avenue.
A special presentation will be made to Tony Fitzpatrick at half-time of tomorrow’s match against Dundee to thank him for his service to St Mirren following his retirement as Chief Executive.

Stephen Robinson has confirmed that Connor Ronan and Jordan Jones may have played their last games for St Mirren.
The pair have returned to their parent clubs - Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic respectively - for treatment on injuries and the manager is unsure of whether they will return to the club with only three matches remaining in the cinch Premiership season.
We await updates of their injuries," the manager told the media this afternoon.
"Connor has been playing with an ankle injury and Jordan with a shoulder injury. They've gone back for scans so they're likely to be unavailable.
"I believe it'll be hard for them to play again this season in such a small timescale. We'll be dictated to by the parent clubs.
"Connor has been pivotal this season. We'll assess it and stay in touch with them.
"We've got 14 fit players who are fighting for us. They're playing with knocks and injections and it's a credit to them. They're really fighting for the football club."
It's St Mirren's last Saturday match of the 2021/22 season this weekend as we head into the final three matches.
Stephen Robinson's side host Dundee at the SMiSA Stadium with a chance to assure cinch Premiership status for next season. The Buddies are eight points clear of the relegation play-off spot with just nine points to play for after Saturday's 1-0 win away to St Johnstone.
Depending on results elsewhere, Saints could move up to eighth place with a win on Saturday.
Dundee know that a defeat could send them back to the second tier after a year in the Premiership. The Dee currently trail 11th place St Johnstone by five points, but a defeat for Mark McGhee's men coupled by a St Johnstone win at Livingston would see the Dark Blues relegated.
Dundee have drawn three and lost two of their last five league matches - drawing with St Johnstone (1-1), Dundee United (2-2) and Aberdeen (2-2), while losing to Aberdeen (0-1) and Rangers (1-2).
The Dens Park side haven't won in the cinch Premiership since a 2-1 victory against Hearts at Tynecastle in February - a run of 10 matches without a win.

It's a massive honour to be voted by different groups of people for the awards.

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to confirm that Scott Tanser has agreed a contract extension which ties him to the club until summer 2024.
The English full-back joined Saints in June 2021 after spending four years at fellow cinch Premiership side St Johnstone. Initially penning a one-year deal with the option of a further year, Scott has now agreed to extend his stay in Paisley for the next two seasons.
In his debut season at St Mirren, Tanser has made 35 appearances with two goals and four assists in the cinch Premiership.
Manager Stephen Robinson said: "Scott is one of the best left-backs in this league.
"He provides a real threat going forward with his deliveries and is a natural left-sided player so brings us balance. We're delighted to have him staying with us.
"We're in negotiations with numerous players both at the club and elsewhere as we look to add to what is a good core of players."
