Dundee match postponed

Today's match against Dundee has been postponed due to the effects of Storm Malik.

There have been stadium safety issues at the Kilmac Stadium caused by the high winds.

Details on rearranged fixtures and ticket arrangements will be announced in due course.

Jim Goodwin: We will have to be at the best to beat Dundee

Saints boss Jim Goodwin believes his side will have to be at it if they want to keep up their winning run when they face Dundee in the cinch Premiership.

The Buddies head to the Kilmac Stadium in good spirit having won all three matches since returning from the winter break.

And despite Dundee being on a run of seven games without a win, the manager won't be taking tomorrow's match for granted.

Dundee is an extremely difficult fixture, they are fighting for their lives," the manager told the press.

"They beat us here [The SMiSA Stadium] 1-0 last time out and we had a very close game on the first day of the season so we have to be at our best.

"We said after the Aberdeen game that winning breeds confidence. We’ve got a nice little bit of momentum now at the moment with three wins on the spin.

"It’s been hard work and discipline first and foremost, with some very good goals along the way as well. There’s going to be a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between now and the end of the season.

"Last season I probably spoke too much about targets and where we wanted to be,” Goodwin added.

"I’m not taking away from the fact that we still want top six, we still want to be in the mix for that. But the message for the players after the break was let’s just take it one game at a time and that’s what we are doing now."

Use of Pyrotechnics

Supporter safety is a key priority for all clubs and we at St Mirren Football Club are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that the match day experience is safe and enjoyable.

One of the most dangerous things we have to deal with is pyrotechnic articles such as smoke bombs and flares in the stadium and we'd ask that you assist us to look after you by not bringing such articles with you to matches. These articles can cause severe burns, damage to hearing or breathing difficulties and their use is especially distressing for groups such as small children and those who can't easily move away when pyrotechnics are activated.

Experience shows that when a pyrotechnic is activated in a crowd there is often a movement away from the immediate area which can cause panic and disorientation and which creates a risk of slips and trips or crushing for those nearby.

Please be in no doubt that these articles are unpleasant and potentially life-threatening to be around - they are also illegal at football matches - and being caught with them will result in exclusion from The SMISA Stadium and a possible criminal conviction as well as potential financial penalties for the club.

Chief Executive Tony Fitzpatrick to retire in March

St Mirren Football Club can tonight announce that Chief Executive Tony Fitzpatrick will retire from his position on March 31st 2022.

Tony retires after a distinguished career at St Mirren as a player, manager and Chief Executive. He will, however, remain at the club in an ambassador role.

Tony commented: "It has been a real privilege to be involved at this wonderful club. When I returned to St Mirren in 2016 it was always my plan to stay here until retirement age and build upon the work done by my predecessor Brian Caldwell and the former board.

"It’s been a rollercoaster ride from narrowly avoiding relegation to the third tier of Scottish football to our current position in the cinch Premiership.

"The last two years in particular have been an incredibly difficult time for us all, but we have made great strides at the club. Last season we reached the semi-finals of both the League and Scottish Cups for the first time since 1981/82 as well as achieving our highest top-flight league position since 1989.

"Fan ownership was achieved five years ahead of schedule with SMiSA taking over the majority shareholding on the club in July.

"We have also seen a number of academy players make their debuts for St Mirren with some moving on to big opportunities across the world and managed to attain Elite level status for the academy over the last year.

"I would like to thank the players and staff at the club over the past number of years who have worked tirelessly to try and give you a club to be proud of. I would also like to pay a special tribute to the supporters who are the lifeblood of St Mirren. The journey we have been on over the last six years has been truly incredible and could not have been achieved without your support.

"While I look forward to what retirement has in store, I will still be around the SMiSA Stadium to support the team. Come on Ye Saints!"

Previous

Saints travel to the Kilmac Stadium for the first time since the opening day of the season. Goals from Eamonn Brophy and Jamie McGrath twice had the Buddies ahead but an own goal followed by a Jason Cummings strike saw the points shared in a 2-2 draw.

Dundee were victorious when they visited the SMiSA Stadium in October. Max Anderson scored the game's only goal for the Dark Blues.

Saints are unbeaten in their last five trips to the Kilmac Stadium - a run stretching back to 2013.

The officials

The referee on Saturday is Kevin Clancy. He'll be assisted by Craig Ferguson and Gary Hilland. Chris Fordyce is the fourth official.

Jim Goodwin: Players stuck to game plan

Jim Goodwin reflected on St Mirren's win over Aberdeen in the cinch Premiership as his side made it three wins from three in 2022.

I thought the players were outstanding. Every single one of them stuck to the game plan and did the job that was asked of them."

Ronan strike makes it 3 from 3 for Saints

St Mirren made it three wins from three in 2022 as Connor Ronan's fourth goal of the season gave us all three points against Aberdeen.

It was a moment of quality from the Irishman in a game that didn't have much of it with Saints making the perfect return from the winter break so far.

Jim Goodwin made three changes to the side that defeated Ayr United in the Scottish Cup on Saturday with Alan Power, Jamie McGrath and Eamonn Brophy coming in for Ethan Erhahon, Kyle McAllister and Kristian Dennis.

A bright start from the Buddies saw an early penalty appeal after Greg Kiltie had nutmegged Scott Brown and sent a dangerous ball across the face of the box inside the first 30 seconds. David Bates cleared with his head but the nearby Saints players were adamant it came off his hand. The resulting corner saw Jay Henderson fires a half-volley over the bar from the edge of the area. Two minutes later Saints came close again from another when Marcus Fraser headed inches by the post.

Aberdeen's grew into the game but didn't create anything to trouble Jak Alnwick until the final minute of the opening 45. While Lewis Ferguson had gone close when let fly from 20 yards with a vicious strike which curled just by the far post, it was Calvin Ramsay's effort just before the break that forced the Saints goalkeeper to tip over.

The Dons started the second-half the stronger with captain Brown curling over from 20 yards early into the second 45. Brown was involved again a few minutes later when he looked to take advantage of a mix-up in the Saints defence but Scott Tanser was able to clear off the line.

Saints were sparked into life just after the hour-mark when Ronan slammed home the opener. It looked like the chance was gone when Kiltie's ball across the box missed everyone but Ronan was able to recover the ball before shifting on to his right foot and firing into the far corner with a beautiful curling strike.

In a match of few chances one goal would be enough to secure the points for Jim Goodwin's men as they moved to within three points of the top six.

Waste and Recycling Initiative

#BUDDIEBINIT

2021 marked the year when St Mirren became a fan-owned football club, a development that strengthened our community roots. As a club that takes its social and community responsibilities seriously, 2021 was also the year when we began our efforts to drastically reduce our carbon footprint.

Recycling Bins

Currently, we have general waste and recycling bins situated in the concourses, and we are in the process of installing new recycling bins pitchside. We want to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible and the first step is to use these bins effectively. During post-clean up the SMiSA Volunteer Squad are responsible for ensuring general waste and recyclables are divided and disposed of, and with the help from the fans, we want to make their job as easy as possible.

Food kiosks

Our catering partners Pie Sports use materials for food and beverages which are over 90% recyclable, whilst also providing vegetarian/vegan/halal food alternatives. We are working closely with Pie Sports to ensure consistency across the club.

Energy usage

To reduce energy usage within the stadium we are working with Zero Waste Scotland to gain an energy measurement to show the positive impact our efforts are having on energy usage.

Internally we are changing behaviours so that we may be as energy efficient as possible, these habitual changes can be reflected in home life too.

  • Shut down computers instead of standby
  • Use LED light bulbs instead of incandescent
  • Unplug idle electronics
  • Use a power socket to reduce plug load
  • Turn down the thermostat when not using the room

Standard Practice

A letter of commitment has been sent to the United Nations, which states that we, St Mirren FC, are committed to aligning our practices with the 5 principles of the Sports for Climate Action Framework, listed below:

  1. Undertake systematic efforts to promote greater environmental responsibility
  2. Reduce overall climate change
  3. Educate for climate action
  4. Promote sustainable and responsible consumption
  5. Advocate for climate action through communication

There are currently 3 senior football clubs in the UK that have made a commitment to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework: Manchester Utd, Forest Green Rovers and Hibernian.
