The manager gives his thoughts on a disappointing defeat away to Motherwell.
St Mirren's top six hopes have been left hanging by a thread after Saints were beaten 4-2 by Motherwell at Fir Park.
A breathless opening 45 saw Motherwell go into the break 3-2 ahead. Eamonn Brophy put St Mirren ahead, but two goals in a minute from Sean Goss and Connor Shields put the Steelmen in front. The returning Conor McCarthy levelled on 38 minutes, only for Motherwell to re-take the lead in the final minute of the half through Dean Cornelius.
A Richard Tait own-goal 12 minutes from time saw the Fir Park side add a fourth to secure their first league win since Boxing Day.
Despite a slow start Saints struck first when Brophy scored his eighth goal of the season from close-range. Stephen O'Donnell's attempted clearance from a cross on the left clattered off Sondre Solholm Johansen and fell to Brophy who turned and slotted into the corner of the net.

The home side levelled on 20 minutes when Goss squeezed beyond Dean Lyness - deputising for the suspended Jak Alnwick - at the near post. And within a minute Motherwell were ahead when Shields ran on to a ball over the top and lifted over the Saints goalkeeper.
The St Mirren reaction to going behind was good with Brophy almost equalising on 28 minutes. The striker went one-on-one with Liam Kelly but smacked the post with the rebound evading Jordan Jones.
O'Donnell was gifted a huge opportunity to add a third for the home side when Erhahon's clearance fell to the Scotland internationalists feet. Lyness denied with a save from his feet.
Saints made it 2-2 seven minutes before half-time when McCarthy scored his second goal of the season. The Irish defender bundled home at the back post after Kelly in the Motherwell goal failed to gather a corner.
Just when it looked like the Buddies would go into the interval level, Motherwell took the lead again. Joe Efford's ball from the left found Cornelius who took a touch to control before guiding into corner of the net.
Lyness made a wonderful save to push away a sweet Callum Slattery strike from 20 yards 10 minutes into the second-half. Efford should have scored the rebound but took a touch which allowed the St Mirren defence to crowd out and clear.
Saints were controlling possession in the second 45 but were failing to create anything that would trouble Kelly. Marcus Fraser was inches away from making it 3-3 just after the hour mark. Jones' corner was flicked on at the near post by Brophy and Fraser was agonisingly close to connecting with a touch that would have almost certainly found the net.
But that lack of cutting edge would cost St Mirren as Motherwell sealed their win 12 minutes from time. Kevin Van Veen did brilliantly down the left with his low ball across turned into the net by Richard Tait.
St Mirren now must beat Rangers next Sunday at the SMiSA Stadium and hope that results on Saturday go our way to have any chance of taking a top six place.

St Mirren Football Club has secured a landmark sponsorship deal that will see the women’s and youth teams wear the same strips as the men.
Thought to be the first time in top flight Scottish football history, the move was achieved as Digby Brown Solicitors moved into the second season of its two-year kit deal.
It means every football player for the Paisley Saints will wear the same logo on their home and away jerseys in the 2022/23 season.
Tony Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive of St Mirren Football Club, said: "Digby Brown have been fantastic partners for St Mirren since coming on board with us at the beginning of the season.
"Digby Brown’s company values strongly align with our own and we are delighted to have them with us again next season.
"We are really excited for this partnership to progress into its second year with full support, not just for the first team, but the women’s and academy teams also in what is believed to be a first in top-flight Scottish football.
"Whether it’s first team, women’s, or academy, we are all St Mirren and we are thankful to Digby Brown for their continued support of the club."
Fraser Oliver, Chief Executive of Digby Brown Solicitors, said: "As the fans know, our partnership with St Mirren all happened very quickly and delighted as we still are, we always wanted to help with more than just first team shirts.
"At Digby Brown our people work hard and work well but more importantly, we all know we are part of one team.
"We believe St Mirren players deserve that same feeling of belonging – and we think that starts with recognition.
"We are therefore delighted that as we extend our partnership with St Mirren until the end of the 2022/23 season, we can provide youth academies, female squads and the first team with the same strips.
"That way all players are unified as one team – playing under the same banner to the same fans with the same recognition."
Digby Brown Solicitors is Scotland's most recognised legal brand specialising in personal injury and employment law.
The firm has been recognised on numerous occasions as Scottish Law Firm of the Year however Community Contribution is the award they are best known for, winning it for the last seven years.

St Mirren's final away game before the cinch Premiership split takes place on Saturday as Saints travel to Motherwell.
Both teams still harbour ambitions of a top six finish and know a win is vital in keeping up the chase for one of the remaining positions.
The two sides sit on 36 points - just one point off fifth and sixth placed Hibernian and Livingston.
Saints go into Saturday's match having been agonisingly beaten in the final moments of our game against Dundee United before the international break. However, it was a last minute goal in the prior league match against Dundee that gave Stephen Robinson his first win as St Mirren manager as Connor Ronan scored in a 1-0 win at the Kilmac Stadium.
Meanwhile, Motherwell have yet to win a league match in 2022 with Graham Alexander's men on a run of 11 league games without victory. The Steelmen also lost out to a last minute goal in a 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone prior to the international break.

Previous
Saints have faced the Steelmen twice this season - with neither side being separated as both ended in draws.
Eamonn Brophy scored twice at Fir Park in October as the Buddies came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.
Alex Gogic scored a late header on his debut at the beginning of February which looked to have given Saints all the points when Motherwell visited the SMiSA Stadium. But Ross Tierney scored an injury time goal to give the Lanarkshire side a share of the spoils.
St Mirren have only lost one of their last nine against Motherwell. In that run Saints have won three times (all at Fir Park) and drawn the other five.

The officials
Craig Napier is the referee on Saturday. He'll be assisted by Daniel McFarlane and Graham McNeillie. Bobby Madden is fourth official.
St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce that Kieran Offord has agreed a two-year contract extension until 2024 with the option of a further year.
The St Mirren Youth Academy graduate, who turned 18 yesterday, made his first team debut in our 0-0 draw with Celtic in December 2021. He would play 88 minutes for Saints that evening before coming on as a substitute against Rangers at Ibrox four days later.
The forward has spent most of this season on loan at Lowland League side East Stirlingshire where he has scored nine goals in 12.
Kieran has also been capped by the Scotland U19s this season - featuring in a 3-0 win over Gibraltar and a 1-1 draw against Croatia back in November.
After agreeing the new deal, Kieran told stmirren.com. "I feel like I'm ready now for the challenge to push on.
I was involved in the games against Celtic and Rangers before Christmas and I've been out on loan as well. I've been working hard to try and get to the level I want and that's the Premiership.
"The loan has been very beneficial. I've been playing against men week in, week out and I've been scoring goals. It's helped prepare for training with the first team and hopefully it can help me playing with the first team.
"I've been training with the first team a lot more and there has been more opportunity for me. It's a lot more physically demanding and fitness wise I feel like I'm pushing myself to the limits and getting better and better.
"The manager has said that he feels if I work hard then there is an opportunity for me to impress him and if I do well enough I'll be given a chance."
Manager Stephen Robinson said: "Kieran's been a real bright spark since I've come to the club.
I've involved a number of youth team players since I arrived at the club and he was one that really caught my eye.
"There has been a lot of interest in Kieran from clubs in Scotland and England and I felt it was important that we got him tied down to a longer term deal.
"We want to create an identity and a pathway for young players at our club. Kieran sees the pathway that we are trying to create here and the hard work for him starts now."
Assistant manager Diarmuid O'Carroll oversees Kieran Offord signing his new contract.
