Own-goal gives us hard-fought win against Livingston

Saints returned to action and to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over Livingston.

The Buddies led after an unspectacular first half, the combined efforts of Mikael Mandron and unfortunate Livingston defender Sean Kelly resulting in the bull trundling into the away net as the opening 45 minutes drew to a close.

It looked as if Saints had sealed the win late on when Tom Parkes put the ball into his own net while trying to clear a free-kick, however his blushes were spared when VAR ruled it out for offside. In stoppage time a tremendous save from Zach Hemming kept out Joel Nouble and ensured the points stayed in Paisley.

Jonah Ayunga made his much anticipated return to the first team squad after 11 months away, the forward coming straight into the team to join Mandron up front. Mark O'Hara also returned, with the suspended Keanu Baccus and the injured Ryan Strain the pair dropping out as Conor McMenamin started at wingback. Former Buddie Sean Kelly started for Livingston, with Bruce Anderson leading the visiting attack alongside Nouble.

O'Hara headed Scott Tanser's cross past the post before Anderson smashed a shot well over from the edge of the box as the two sides tried to suss each other out early on. It was a drab first half, Richard Taylor scooping a shot wide after a neat turn following a Saints corner proving to be the last moment of note for the best part of 20 minutes until Livi's Michael Nottingham headed against the bar. Anderson then fizzed a ball across goal with no takers as the visitors threatened again but just as they were gaining some impetus they fell behind.

Greg Kiltie latched onto a ball behind the visiting defence and raced into the box before taking a shot that Shamal George was unable to hold, Mandron and Kelly both sliding in to help the ball trickle across the line. It was hard to tell who got the final touch, although the striker was more than happy to claim the credit, but the main thing was Saints were in front.

Saints looked to add a quick second, George watching as Ayunga's header hit the bar and bounced behind after Livingston failed to deal with a corner. Alex Gogic headed well over from another corner in stoppage time before, at the other end, James Penrice sent in a teasing ball that Scott Pitman slid in to meet at the front post, only to send it spinning up into the air for Zach Hemming to catch.

Taylor seemed to fancy his chances of a goal as early in the second half he strolled forward before playing the ball out wide, being ready to collect the it when the Livingston defence tried to clear the resultant cross, however his shot was well off target. There were a few half-hearted penalty appeals after the Saints attack felt stymied in their efforts to reach Kiltie's inviting cross before Caolan Boyd-Munce's low effort from 20 yards had a worried George scrambling across his goal as it went narrowly wide.

Ayunga's first appearance for 300 days was brought to an end after a productive hour when he was replaced by Alex Greive, Taylor then having to hook a goal-bound Kurtis Guthrie effort clear as a Livi corner caused a bit of panic in the Saints box. Taylor's day came to a premature end when he seemed to land badly and eventually needed the help of a stretcher, Charles Dunne taking his place. The frost had never properly left the final third that Saints were attacking and some slipping and sliding eventually saw the ball trundle past after Mandron had tried to get onto the end of a cross. From the following corner, Boyd-Munce's delivery found Tanser, who turned and shot well wide.

A few moments later it looked as if Saints had wrapped up the three points. Boyd-Munce's free-kick caused chaos in the box and when Parkes tried to clear it he could only smash the ball into the roof of the net. The Saints players and fans celebrated and everyone was ready to resume before the dreaded letters VAR were mentioned. A lengthy wait ensued as the officials checked for offside, eventually ruling it out.

The delay, combined with previous injuries, meant eight minutes were added on and they started with Gogic picking up the game's first booking. Kiltie was alert to pressure George when he tried to deal with a passback, the goalie whacking the ball off the onrushing Saints player before it spun safely behind. With three minutes left Hemming produced a great save to keep out Nouble's shot after great work from Anderson. From the corner, McMenamin broke down the right and charged into the box, his shot being blocked and the ball breaking for O'Hara who fired just over. After that, the Buddies were able to see out the remaining few minutes relatively comfortable to take all three points.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium

Livingston dropped to the foot of the table just before the international break. David Martindale's side have lost their last five cinch Premiership matches in a row with their last victory coming in early October when they defeated Motherwell 2-0 at The Tony Macaroni Arena.

An injury-time Stav Nahmani goal meant neither side could be separated when Saints faced Livingston at The Tony Macaroni Arena in September. Luiyi De Lucas' 89th minute goal looked to have given the home side the points, but forward Nahmani popped up deep in stoppage time with his first league goal for Saints to secure a 1-1 draw.

The Buddies ran out 3-0 winners when Livingston last visited The SMiSA Stadium in April 2023. Mark O'Hara scored two penalties either side of a Tony Watt goal to give us the win.

Saints are unbeaten in 11 league matches against Livingston with our last defeat to the Lions coming in February 2020.

St Mirren Youth Academy Dinner 2023/24

St Mirren Youth Academy hosted an awards dinner on Friday 17th November as we celebrated the achievements of academy players and staff.

The sold-out event at the Glynhill Hotel was kindly sponsored by Kibble and saw players from every Academy age group presented with a player's player of the year award in recognition of their hard work throughout the year.

There was a special video message from St Mirren Youth Academy graduate and current Scotland international John McGinn as he reflected on his time at the club and the importance of hard work as the younger players look to forge a career within football.

We also raised a substantial amount of money from our auctions and raffle that will go directly into the running of the academy.

Head of Academy Allan McManus said: "It was an absolutely fantastic evening above everyone's expectations.

We want this to be a regular occurrence. It was a brilliant night and we hope this becomes an integral part of the yearly planner.

"I'd like to say a big thank you to Jim Gillespie and everyone at Kibble for sponsoring the event. They have spent a lot of money on different aspects of the academy and the junior academy throughout the course of the season.

"As we know, SMiSA continue to invest a substantial amount of money every year also. Without that ongoing support and financial input the academy wouldn't function the way that it can at the moment."

Jonah Ayunga nearing return

Jonah Ayunga is nearing a return to first-team action after completing 90 minutes in a bounce game at The SMiSA Stadium on Thursday.

The 26-year-old forward has been out with injury since January when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in a cinch Premiership match against Motherwell.

The striker has been back in full training for just over a month and has now completed 45, 60 and 90 minutes across three bounce matches as he looks to regain match fitness.

It will be a welcome boost for Stephen Robinson’s side with Jonah impressing in his first half season at Saints last year – scoring seven goals in 24 appearances.

Winter Warmer Initiative returns

Following the phenomenal response of last year's winter warmer initiative, we will again be taking donations of winter clothing ahead of our cinch Premiership match against Livingston on Saturday 25th November.

Last November, the club, in partnership with Kibble and Scottish Leather Group, launched a winter clothes appeal which asked St Mirren supporters and the local community to donate warm clothing and jackets for those in need and we were overwhelmed with donations. The doors of the SMiSA Stadium were then opened for those who were in need of warm clothing with excess donated to charities in Renfrewshire.

After terrific support for the campaign, there will be another collection before kick-off on Saturday 25th November. Wheelie bins will be in place at each turnstile and all items will be distributed throughout Renfrewshire to those most in need.

Our fantastic volunteer group are driving this important initiative after a successful campaign last year.

Today's scheduled SWF League One match between St Mirren Women and BSC Glasgow at The SMiSA Stadium has been cancelled after BSC Glasgow announced they were unable to field a team for the fixture.

St Mirren Women were then set compete in a challenge match against St Mirren Women's U18s, but this has now been cancelled due to weather conditions leading to a frozen pitch at The SMiSA Stadium.
