Supporter Update

We were extremely disappointed with the pyro issues that we experienced at our game against Motherwell at the weekend, and recognise the concerns that have been raised by our supporters on these.

Our club has worked tirelessly to educate our supporters regarding the dangers of pyro and the hazardous substances they contain. St Mirren supporters have been mostly compliant at both home and away fixtures in accepting the fact that we want to improve the fan experience in a safe way. Unfortunately, there continue to be individuals that attend football matches intent on breaching safety regulations; regulations set for the benefit of every person attending.

We would like to reassure you of the fact that appropriate action was, and continues to be, carried out against these individuals and this will continue until as many culprits as possible are appropriately dealt with through collaboration and close work with authorities. Specifically in relation to the Motherwell game, a further meeting took place with Police Scotland yesterday to discuss the pyro issues we experienced, amongst other concerns that were identified around the match.

In the wider context, be assured, we are working with the SFA, SPFL, the Government and Police Scotland to try to stop scenes like Saturday. This has already involved changes in legislation through numerous discussions between relevant authorities. Search protocols are involved when planning for each fixture at The SMiSA Stadium and this minimises risk with searches being undertaken on Saturday which identified a number of issues that would have otherwise caused further concerns during the game. Elimination would have been impossible given the intent of individuals and potentially some groups, secreting these devices around their person, however we are looking further at the feasibility of other means of detection.

As a club we hope to have your continued support in trying to deal with these hazards and criminal acts appropriately which involve mechanisms that require several agencies working together to create a safer environment for supporters. We will continue to engage with all segments of our support as we aim to enhance the matchday experience for everyone visiting The SMiSA Stadium.

Thank you again for your feedback and we hope that this information has provided some reassurance that the concerns that have been raised are being tackled.

Up Next: Hearts v St Mirren (23rd Dec)

It's third versus fourth in the cinch Premiership on Saturday as Saints travel to Tynecastle to face Hearts.

The Jambos leapfrogged Saints in the table by virtue of goal difference after a shock 2-0 win over league leaders Celtic at Celtic Park on Saturday. First-half goals from Lawrence Shankland and Stephen Kingsley saw Steven Naismith's side win at Celtic Park for the first time since 2009 and move them on to 26 points.

Saints picked up a point at home to Motherwell following a goalless draw at The SMiSA Stadium on Saturday. It maintained our good run of form at home with five wins, three draws and just one defeat from our nine home league matches so far this season.

Previous

St Mirren came out on top in the only meeting between the two sides so far this season. Ryan Strain's first-half goal was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Saints, who also had three goals disallowed, at The SMiSA Stadium in September.

The Buddies were victorious the last time we visited Tynecastle with Curtis Main and Alex Gogic scoring in a 2-0 win back in April. That was our first win in Gorgie since 2013.

In the four meetings between the two sides last season, Saints won one, drew two and lost one - all of which came in this calendar year.

The officials

The referee on Saturday is Nick Walsh. He'll be assisted by David McGeachie and Douglas Ross. Calum Scott is fourth official.

Euan Anderson is the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and he'll be assisted by Graham McNeillie.

Lewis Jamieson agrees contract extension

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce that we have agreed a contract extension with Lewis Jamieson.

The 21-year-old forward has penned a new deal until summer 2025 with the club holding an option to extend it by a further year.

The St Mirren Youth Academy graduate scored his first Saints goal last month in a 2-2 draw against Hibernian at The SMiSA Stadium. In total, Lewis has made 19 first-team appearances with his latest coming in a start away to St Johnstone at the beginning of this month.

Speaking to stmirren.com, Lewis said: "I'm really happy. It came as a bit of a shock to be honest, but I'm happy to be here and get more opportunities.

"The gaffer is pushing me all the time. It's been a benefit because I'm in the best condition I have been as a professional. It's been really good for me and hopefully I can keep working hard, get opportunities and reap the benefits.

"I really enjoy it here," he continued.

Coming through the academy makes it more special when I do get those opportunities and hopefully there is more to come."

Manager Stephen Robinson added: "I think Lewis has come to the fore and become a real live option for us.

"He's added real competition and shown he can compete at this level. it's probably taken us a little bit longer than we thought to get him there but he's applied himself really well and he's someone we feel we can keep developing.

"It's been difficult for him to break in because we've started the season well but when he's had his chances he's taken them and he's worked really hard since I came to the club. We see him as a big part of things going forward."

Draw a fair result in difficult conditions says manager

I think it was a very difficult game in the wind but credit to both teams. Arguably a draw is a fair result."

Stephen Robinson gives his reaction to today's 0-0 draw with Motherwell.

Points shared in goalless draw

Saints and Motherwell played out a goalless draw in a wet and windy Paisley.

After a forgettable first half, Saints were given the perfect chance to take the lead early in the second when Stephen O'Donnell handled Jonah Ayunga's cross, but Liam Kelly saved Mark O'Hara's effort.

Kelly also did well to turn away Thierry Small's shot but it was the visitors who had the better chances, a combination of poor finishing and great goalkeeping from Zach Hemming meaning Blair Spittal, Mika Biereth and Theo Bair failed to get on the scoresheet.

The only change to the Saints side that had started against Ross County was little surprise, Keanu Baccus replacing the injured Caolan Boyd-Munce in midfield. The in-form Biereth started for the visitors, with former Buddies Jon Obika and Paul McGinn on the bench.

Saints could have taken an early lead in slightly bizarre circumstances when skipper Mark O'Hara released Thierry Small down the right. His cross with his weaker foot was poor, Jonah Ayunga and Stav Nahmani effectively getting in each other's way as they came to meet it. Instead, it ran through to Greg Kiltie only for him to loose his balance as he took his shot – which still threatened to loop under the Motherwell bar. Small's next cross moments later was better, Ayunga sending a header towards goal that Liam Kelly tipped over. That proved to be the extent of the excitement in a first half played with the wind causing havoc for both sides.

Things livened up early in the second half. Ayunga burst forward and then crossed, the ball hitting the arm of the sliding Stephen O'Donnell as he tried to block the delivery. For once, VAR wasn't needed to tell whether it was a penalty, ref Craig Napier pointing straight to the spot. 'Well goalie Kelly indulged in some gamesmanship before he parried away the penalty from the usually reliable O'Hara, the skipper unable to force home the rebound.

Unsurprisingly, the save gave Motherwell a boost and they finally managed their first effort of note when Harry Paton's shot from the edge of the box flashed wide. Georgie Gent then headed a free-kick straight at Zach Hemming before Keanu Baccus shot just wide at the other end. The Aussie midfielder curled his next effort from a short corner over the bar, with Small going close when he cut inside and sent a shot towards the bottom corner that Kelly tipped it away.

When Motherwell countered from the Saints corner that followed, they should have been front. The ball found Blair Spittal in acres of space and he reacted quickly to avoid Alex Gogic's lunge but didn't even test Hemming as he somehow shot wide. The visitors were screaming for a penalty moments later when Callum Slattery got in behind Gogic and then went to ground in the box. Play raged on, with Mr Napier not even invited to look at the VAR monitor when the ball went out.

There was another penalty appeal when the ball may have hit Richard Taylor's arm but that also fell on deaf ears before Biereth squandered a glorious chance, getting goalside of the Saints defence before scuffing his shot at Hemming. As the game entered the final few minutes, Motherwell had another chance to score when sub Theo Bair was sent through but Hemming pulled off a great save. Deep into stoppage time, the Motherwell defence left a Saints cross and it bounced through to Conor McMenamin, however it rose too high for the Saints sub and was only able to head over as the points were shared.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium
