Alleged incidents at Ross County match

The club is aware of some alleged issues at Dingwall on Saturday before and during our match against Ross County.

These alleged issues are something that both the Police and the SPFL delegate have been made aware of so the implications could be significant to the club.

There is obviously concern that with two important away games coming up this week that everyone can travel safely, enjoy these games and support the team.

If anyone has thoughts or comments on minimising potential issues - particularly for these next games - please email the St Mirren SLOs in confidence at slo@stmirren.com

This is not an appeal for information but an effort to ensure the good name of the club and our fans is not further compromised.

Up Next: Dundee v St Mirren (9th Mar)

St Mirren travel to Dundee on Wednesday night for a third away game in a row.

This is the third time this fixture has been scheduled to go ahead with the previous two matches postponed due to weather issues.

Saints go into Wednesday's game on the back of losses to Ross County (0-1), Celtic (0-2) and Hearts (0-2). But a win for Stephen Robinson's side could move them level on points with sixth place County and just a point off Hibernian in fourth.

Dundee currently sit at the bottom of the cinch Premiership - just a point behind 11th placed St Johnstone - following draws with Motherwell (1-1) and Hibernian (0-0).

Mark McGhee's side have won two, drawn two and lost two in their last six in all competitions.

We didn't press as well as we can do and we didn't pass the ball until we were 1-0 down. It wasn't good enough."

Saints beaten by Ross County

St Mirren were beaten by Ross County in the cinch Premiership this afternoon.

Joseph Hungbo's penalty early in the second-half was enough to see the points remain in Dingwall.

Jak Alnwick missed out which meant Dean Lyness came in for his first start since December. Alex Greive replaced Curtis Main in the only other change from Wednesday's defeat at Celtic.

After a quiet start, Saints had a decent spell of possession after 15 minutes in which they started to pass the ball about more freely but ultimately didn't make Ross Laidlaw work in the County goal.

Regan Charles-Cook was looking like County's biggest threat in an opening 45 that lacked quality. The Englishman, who is top scorer in the cinch Premiership so far this season with 13 goals, forced Lyness to push away a dangerous ball from the right-hand side with Jordan White waiting to pounce on 25 minutes. Conor McCarthy did well four minutes later to pressure Charles-Cook and take the sting out of his effort from the edge of the area allowing it to roll harmlessly into the arms of Lyness.

With around eight minutes of the first-half remaining Jordan Tillson fired over from the edge of the area. Charles-Cook's free-kick was only cleared as far at the County number 22, but his first-time effort flew over.

Saints passed up a great opportunity on the counter as the first-half approached its end. Alex Gogic drove forward with a number of players piling forward but the move broke down when Alan Power couldn't control the pass and get a shot away.

Stephen Robinson made two changes at half-time with Ethan Erhahon and Curtis Main replacing Greg Kiltie and Alex Greive.

But within two minutes of the restart Ross County were awarded a penalty when Hungbo went down under the challenge. He stepped up to take and smashed in off the underside of the bar to give the home side the lead.

Saints were dealt a further blow on 52 minutes when McCarthy had to be replaced after picking up an injury. That saw the introduction of Eamonn Brophy who fizzed a strike over the bar five minutes after his introduction.

Laidlaw was forced into his first save of the game on the hour mark when Jordan Jones found Main with the forward's effort pushed away at the near post by the County goalkeeper.

For all the visitors were having the ball, they were failing to create much. Jones flashed over from the edge of the box as the clock ticked down with Saints heading back to Paisley empty-handed.

Diarmuid O'Carroll highlights importance of next four matches

Diarmuid O'Carroll highlighted the importance of the next four matches if St Mirren are to have a successful end to the season.

Saints have just five league matches remaining before the cinch Premiership split - starting with Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium tomorrow.

The Irishman - who joined the club as assistant to Stephen Robinson - says a target has been set as they look to clinch a first-ever top six spot for Saints in the current league set-up.

The management duo are looking for their first win at Saints after defeats against Hearts and Celtic in the previous two matches.

We’ve come in at a massive point in the season," Diarmuid said speaking to the press.

"Obviously for ourselves personally we came in and had two very hard games.

"Hearts was at home, but the sending off killed it a little bit for us.

"At Celtic we were predominantly out of possession but we did quite well in terms of off the ball.

"Now we’ve got four games to target and really get after.

"We’ve had a little bit more time to work with the lads on the training ground now and spirits are high. Since the Christmas break they’ve had a good run. Pre-Christmas they were on a tough run.

"We have a very clear target for the next three or four games.

"If we get a set amount of points then we can turn this into a very successful season very quickly."

It's been a non-stop start for Diarmuid and the manager since replacing Jim Goodwin and Lee Sharp at Saints just last week.

The 34-year-old has been happy with what he's seen at the club so far, but admits they are looking to build upon the foundations in place.

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind with the way we left Morecambe and the timeline with the games, and fling in a bit of snow as well.

"But it’s been brilliant, I’ve been impressed with the facilities and the ambition of the club. We’ve had a lot of productive meetings with the staff.

"We would obviously like a couple of results now to back it up but everything so far we are excited about.

"We’re conscious that our style is different to Jim’s [Goodwin]. Our style is different to how we’ll build play and press against the opposition.

"We have to make small tweaks in the short term, enough that we can get results and also put our stamp on it."

It's another away day for St Mirren as the Buddies travel to Dingwall to face Ross County on Saturday.

After previously being on a run of eight without defeat, Saints are looking to get back to winning ways after two defeats in a row.

The Buddies were beaten 2-0 at Celtic Park on Wednesday night which followed a 2-0 loss to Hearts at home the previous Saturday.

Stephen Robinson's side sit in ninth place in the cinch Premiership table - but are only four points off fourth placed Livingston as the race for top six heats up.

Ross County's 1-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park on Wednesday saw them leapfrog Saints in the table on goal difference.
