Jak Alnwick is in that number

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce that Jak Alnwick has agreed a two-year deal with the Buddies subject to clearance.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper will #BeInThatNumber as he becomes our second signing of the summer following the expiry of his contract at Rangers.

Jak turned professional at English Premier League side Newcastle United and made his debut for the Magpies in a 2-1 win over Chelsea in 2013.

After loan spells at Gateshead and Bradford City, Jak joined Port Vale in 2015. His form at Port Vale earned him a move to Rangers in January 2017 where he signed a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Game time at Ibrox was limited for Jak which lead to loan spells at English sides Scunthorpe United and Blackpool, before an eventual departure from the Glasgow side earlier this month.

Alnwick becomes our second signing of the summer following the signing of Richard Tait last week.

Speaking on the move, Jak told stmirren.com: "I’m delighted it could get done so quickly.

I knew straight away after speaking to the gaffer and hearing the plans he has in place and what he wants to achieve that it was going to be the right move.

"He told me about the ambitions of the football club, the direction its going in and to be honest he didn’t need to sell it too much.

"Lee Hodson is my best friend and I spoke to him straight away. He said it was a brilliant family club and spoke really highly of the club.

"I feel I have some unfinished business here. I looked at my time at Rangers and I didn’t really play many games up here but it’s a league I felt I could do well in and it’s time for me to show what I can do up here.

Saints manager Jim Goodwin said: "It was a well-documented position that we need to fill and Jak was one of our top targets.

We’re absolutely over the moon to get him in and get working with him.

"Vaclav Hladky left here with everybody’s best wishes but I think we have brought in a very able replacement in Jak. He’s got great experience for someone relatively young and, for me, is going into the best years of his career."

Richard Tait signs for St Mirren

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Richard Tait on a two-year deal subject to clearance.

The 30 year-old defender will #BeInThatNumber after agreeing a deal to become Jim Goodwin’s first new signing of the 2020/21 season following the expiry of his contract at fellow Premiership club Motherwell.

Richard joins Saints with a wealth of experience having made over 450 career appearances and during his time at Motherwell, Richard helped the Steelmen to a third-place finish last season as well as appearances in the League Cup and Scottish Cup finals in 2017/18.

Speaking on the move Richard told stmirren.com: "I’m delighted to get sorted and to come to St Mirren is fantastic.

"I’m a hardworking player and I’ll give everything on the pitch. I can play left-back, right-back or centre-back but anywhere I’m asked to play I’ll do my best.

"The gaffer has been great. The first day I met him I really liked him. He makes you want to come here and makes you want to play for him. I’m just really looking forward to getting started."

Saints manager Jim Goodwin said: "I’m really happy to have got Richard’s deal over the line.

"He’s an experienced player first and foremost. He’s a leader and he was really highly thought of at Motherwell. He played a big part in their success in the last few years and I’m sure he’ll be a fantastic signing for us.

"He’s a model professional, leaves nothing in the tank on a match day and I’ve got no doubt that the St Mirren fans will take to him instantly."

St Mirren 2020/21 home and away kits unveiled

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to unveil its home and away jerseys for season 2020-21 which are available to pre-order now on our St Mirren E-Store.

Working with our partners Joma for a fourth season in a row, our home jersey returns to our traditional look featuring five black stripes which pay homage to our current club crest. The back of the home shirt will be plain black with gold detailing. We also return to a red away jersey following last season’s striking pink and black shirt.

It was in the 1950s that St Mirren began wearing a club crest on our strips with a badge that was a variation of the Paisley Burgh Coat of Arms. Many variations of the badge existed over the next 40 years but all prominently featured a castellation effect at the top.

However, in 1996, following a decision from the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh, who is responsible for Coats of Arms and Heraldic Crests, which said the Buddies could no longer use the castellation effect, St Mirren commissioned a new badge with five black stripes to mimic the mural crown of the burgh.

Home and away kits are available to pre-order with deliveries set to take place in July. Be one of the first to own yours by pre-ordering now on our St Mirren E-Store.

And finally

A few weeks ago we stated that we had tried to manage the club through this pandemic in a manner we felt was in its best interests both morally and financially.

One of the items that comes under both of these headings and that has come up regularly at our board meetings has been the issue of partial refunds for season ticket holders.

We stated very early on in this crisis that we were looking at giving season ticket holders free access to Buddievision and free entry to a league cup game as compensation for the games they were not able to attend.

Our financial situation continues to evolve on a weekly basis and we still have many uncertainties around Covid testing and the regulatory requirements we will face to ensure we can all start watching and playing football again safely.

However, the agreement with Sky that allows us to ensure that all 20/21 season ticket holders will now get to watch all league games this season either on television or in person will change how we make Buddievision available next year and, with our continued doubts over when the league cup will be played, we have made the decision to go with the simple solution and offer partial refunds.

We have received reassurances from many of our supporters that they were happy for the club to use the money that would have been necessary to offer refunds to be used to help the club survive this crisis and we thank you all for your support. It has been an enormous help in steering us through these difficult times.

There are, however, some fans who, for different reasons, have asked for a refund. In the circumstances we feel it is only fair to accede to their request and to extend the refund offer to all season ticket holders.

To be clear if everyone asked for a refund it would significantly hurt the club and cost us around £140,000 so we sincerely hope that the majority of you will not ask for your refund and will see fit to allow us to use that money to protect the club, safeguard our academy and build a team for the coming season.

However, if you do require the refund then please email the club at tickets@stmirren.com and we will process this for you. In order for us to budget properly for next season we need to keep the window for claims as short as possible, so we need any requests by Friday 19th June please.

If you are one of the few fans who have already contacted the club requesting a refund can we ask that you do it again quoting your name and season ticket number and a phone number you can be contacted at.

You have all played a part over the last four years in bringing us to where we are now and with your continued support we will continue to march forward.

Ryan Flynn signs Saints contract extension

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce that Ryan Flynn will #BeInThatNumber for season 2020/21 after signing a contract extension with the Buddies subject to SFA approval.

The 31 year-old midfielder, who joined Saints in January 2018, has penned a one-year deal with a further year option.

Ryan featured 27 times for St Mirren last season and played a vital role in the Buddies maintaining their Ladbrokes Premiership status.

Speaking on his contract extension, Ryan told stmirren.com: "I’m delighted to get the deal sorted.

"It’s one that’s never been in doubt it’s just been a case of circumstances with everything going on but I’m glad it’s sorted and I can just get on with rehab now.

"I’m feeling good at the minute. The 5-12 weeks mark was tough but I’m making real strides forward and I’m back jogging now which was nice. It feels like there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

"I was enjoying my football last season before the injury and felt like the team was playing good football as well. There’s been a lot of change over the last few years but hopefully we’ll have a bit of stability and can hit the ground running at the start of the season rather than playing catch-up. We want to start where we left off and look to kick on.

"It’ll be our third year in the Premiership and we don’t want to be treading water. Hopefully we can look to what the likes of Livingston have done recently and do that ourselves."

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin said: "We’re delighted to have Ryan signed up for another year.

"He was brilliant for us last season up until his injury. He was excellent in midfield for us at the start of last season but injuries meant we had to move him to right-back and I felt he did even better there.

"He’s a top pro and a great person to have around the dressing room. I’ve enjoyed working with him and he’s a great example to the younger boys in the squad. Stability is a big thing in football and you need guys like him."

Ryan Flynn is in that number. Are you? 2020-21 Season Tickets are on-sale now at smfctickets.co.uk.

Free live streaming will be available for season ticket holders

St Mirren season ticket holders will be able to watch all home games online at no extra cost if the season starts behind closed doors or in a socially distanced stadium, following an agreement with Sky and the SPFL.

Wednesday’s announcement means that clubs, for the first time, will be able to show home matches live via their own websites to supporters living in the UK and Ireland.

The agreement means that the only way to guarantee you see every minute of action at St Mirren Park next season is by purchasing a season ticket.

We will have full details of how this will work in the coming weeks.

St Mirren Chief Executive Tony Fitzpatrick said: "First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone who has purchased a season ticket at this time – over 1500 have been sold so far. While I understand many fans are facing financial uncertainty at this time, I would encourage those who can afford it to Be In That Number and consider doing the same.

"We are still hopeful that we will be able to have supporters safely back at St Mirren Park before too long, but it is important for us meantime to have the option of making matches available to our season ticket holders to watch live while social distancing measures are in place."

Season tickets for 2020/21 are available now at smfctickets.co.uk. You can also call us on 0141-840-6120 between 9:30am-4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

St Mirren Charitable Foundation

We are excited to announce that on Friday 12th June we will be hosting Drums N Roses here at St Mirren Park for a live streamed set as a fundraiser for St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation.

We were approached by the Pipe & Drum band, who are St Mirren Fans, with their original concept. The day will be called ‘Drums On Friday’ and will kick off at 3pm with young fans & members of the Panda Club playing our community Drum in short filmed segments. We will then have some of our W7 Northbank fans playing along to a St Mirren fan favourite and this will all lead to the evening set live here at St Mirren Park for at least 45 minutes.

It is a great opportunity to wear your St Mirren Strips & have some fun, you don’t need a drum, play a washing basket, a bin, a pot or pan and get involved. Please look out for our social media posts over the next few days for more details and if you wish your child to play our drum get in contact.

Thank you.

And finally

The board would like to record their thanks to all the players who are leaving the club, from those who made a small impact in their time here to those who were hugely instrumental in bringing the club to where it is today.

One player in particular cannot leave without us paying him the respect his input over the last three-and-a-half years deserves.

It started during the second-half of The New Saints IRN-BRU Cup semi final where he dragged us up by the bootstraps and turned a miserable first half performance into a new dawn.

He was instrumental in keeping us up that season and then captained us to promotion the following season.

During our first year back in the premiership it was him more than anyone that gathered the players together when things were looking grim and started a revival that saw us stay up in that wonderful play of final.

He came back to our club at a time when he could easily have gone elsewhere for more money but he felt he wanted to help St Mirren get back to where they belonged and at the same time rekindle his love for football.

He has played through injuries and even returned early after a remarkable recovery from a double hernia operation to ensure our club continued to progress. This season he has been hampered by injuries and had a long overdue operation on his knee which has, in his words, allowed him to train pain free for the first time in years.

He leaves the club with our best wishes and we sincerely hope our paths will cross again at some time in the future.

Take a bow Stephen McGinn. You have earned it.

St Mirren FC Squad Update

The club would like to give supporters an update on the squad.

Stephen McGinn, Danny Mullen, Gary MacKenzie, Ross Wallace, Tony Andreu and Cody Cooke will be retained under the furlough scheme before leaving the club.

This provision will also be extended to the following academy players Conor McBrearty, Scott Glover, David Wilson, Matthew Grant, Kyle Girvan and Dominic Lavelle.

Oan Djorkaeff and Vaclav Hladky will also leave the club following the expiry of their contracts, an offer was made to Vaclav but he has decided he wishes to pursue options elsewhere.

Akin Famewo, Calum Waters, Lee Hodson, Alex Jakubiak and Seifedin Chabbi all return to their parent clubs following the expiry of their loan deals.

The club can confirm it has made an offer to extend the contract of Ryan Flynn and we are hopeful this can be resolved very soon.

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin said: "It has been really difficult to have to say goodbye to these players especially in the current circumstances. However, the opportunity to support the players through the close season is one the club felt was important. It goes without saying that everyone at the club wishes all of them the very best for the future."

The Buddies will be saying goodbye to players who have contributed immensely to the club during their time and the club would like to sincerely thank everyone for their efforts in the Black and White stripes and wish them every success in the future.

Stephen McGinn will leave the club after returning to the Buddies for the second time in 2017.  A St Mirren academy graduate, Stephen was named captain upon his return and played a pivotal part in securing survival on the final day of the Ladbrokes Championship that season.

One year later Stephen would lift the Ladbrokes Championship trophy and lead St Mirren back to the Ladbrokes Premiership. Stephen would then play a vital part in a great escape with St Mirren maintaining their place in the Premiership through the play-offs in season 2018/19

Stephen made his 200th St Mirren appearance at home against Hibernian and made his final appearance in a 1-0 win over Hamilton in December 2019.

Danny Mullen played a massive part in Saints’ survival bid in the 2018/19 season scoring four goals in the final 10 games including the equaliser against Dundee United in the play-off final. Danny made 72 appearances for the Buddies, playing a role in our Championship winning season in 2017/18, after joining from Livingston in December 2017.

Gary MacKenzie is another who has been a major part of St Mirren’s successes in the last few years. Signing in July 2016 and scoring five goals in his first season at the club. Gary returned from injury in December of the 2017-18 Championship winning season– scoring an important winner against Queen of the South in his first game back and partnering Harry Davis at centre-back as promotion was secured to the Premiership.  Gary returned again in 2019 from injury and helped secure a win in the play-off final.

Cody Cooke joined St Mirren in July 2018 and scored his first goal in a Scottish Cup win over Alloa Athletic, Cody also scored St Mirren’s first Premiership hat-trick since 2013 in a 3-2 win away at Dens Park on the final day of the season. All in Cody made 27 appearances for the Buddies scoring five times.

Tony Andreu became Jim Goodwin’s first St Mirren signing when he joined in July 2019. The Frenchman made 36 appearances for Saints scoring twice.

Fellow Frenchman Oan Djorkaeff. Game time was limited for Oan with only six appearances under his belt but he did score the winner against Edinburgh City in the Betfred Cup in July.

Ross Wallace was a late addition to the squad having signed as a free agent in February 2020. He would only make three appearances for the Buddies, but boasted a good record with two wins and a draw. His final appearance was in the 1-0 win over Hearts in March in which he set up the winner for Jon Obika.

Vaclav Hladky became a firm fans favourite in his 18 months at Saints after joining the club in January 2019 from Slovan Liberec. The Czech goalkeeper played a huge role in St Mirren’s Premiership survival – saving three penalties in the penalty shoot-out win over Dundee United in the play-off final.

In 59 starts for the club Vaclav kept 17 clean sheets with his final one coming in the 1-0 win over Hearts which proved to be his last match for the Buddies.

The Club wishes every one of the players well in their ongoing careers.
