St Mirren FC x I Am Me Scotland // Accessibility Drop-In

St Mirren FC has been working closely with local charity I Am Me Scotland to become the first officially recognised Disability Friendly club in the country. Following an independent accessibility review carried out with the help of our supporters, the charity has continued to support the newly formed St Mirren Disabled Supporters Association (SMDSA) as they begin implementing the improvements identified in the report.

SMDSA and I Am Me Scotland will host bi‑monthly drop‑in sessions at The SMiSA Stadium, giving all fans the chance to help shape accessibility across the club. The first session will take place on Friday 27th March at 1pm and will focus on developing a new policy for Guide Dogs and Assistance Dogs.

Members of the SMDSA Board will also introduce their roles, gather feedback and suggestions for future meetings, and welcome other disabled supporters who may wish to get involved and strengthen the group’s voice within the club.  If you are unable to attend, but would still like to help shape the guide dog/assistance dog policy, please just email the I Am Me team iamme@renfrewshire.gov.uk.

Our aim is to ensure every supporter has the opportunity to help make St Mirren FC as accessible and inclusive as possible.

If you would like to attend, please contact the I Am Me team at: iamme@renfrewshire.gov.uk

Form

St Mirren were beaten 2-0 by Hibernian at Easter Road at the weekend. That came after a 4-3 loss at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock which saw our five game unbeaten run come to an end.

Saints were victorious in our previous home match with Miguel Freckleton's goal giving us a 1-0 win over league leaders Hearts at the beginning of February. The Buddies sit in 10th place in the William Hill Premiership, three points ahead of Kilmarnock and a point behind Dundee.

Motherwell continued their good run of form with a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Fir Park on Sunday. They face Aberdeen again tonight (Wednesday 18th February) in the Fifth Round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

Jens Berthel Askou's side are unbeaten in 2026 with their last loss coming away to Rangers in December. The Steelmen sit in fourth place in the William Hill Premiership, five points ahead of Hibernian.

There have been three meetings between the two sides this season with both teams boasting a win and the other game finishing goalless. Neither side could be separated when Motherwell visited The SMiSA Stadium in August with the game ending 0-0. Saints defeated the Steelmen 4-1 at Hampden Park in the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup. Mikael Mandron scored a double alongside goals from Dan Nlundulu and Richard King saw us progress to the Final before ultimately winning the competition. Goals from Tawanda Maswanhise and Elliot Watt gave Motherwell a 2-0 win at Fir Park when the sides last met in January.

Saints defeated at Easter Road

St Mirren were beaten 2-0 by Hibernian at Easter Road with goals in either half seeing the home side keep all three points in Leith.

Owen Elding opened the scoring deep in the first-half before substitute Ante Suto added a second on 66 minutes.

Saints made three changes to the side that lost to Kilmarnock on Wednesday night. Conor McMenamin, Jake Young and Dan Nlundulu came in from the start in place of Jayden Richardson, Roland Idowu and Mikael Mandron.

McMenamin had the game's first opportunity on seven minutes when his effort forced a save from Hibernian goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger. Young's driving run saw him find Killian Phillips with a nice pass around 20 yards from goal. The Irish midfielder fed it wide to McMenamin who came in off the right and tried his luck from a tight angle. Sallinger had to be at full stretch to tip it over the bar.

The hosts threatened soon after. Declan John made a vital block inside the Saints six-yard box to deny Miguel Chaiwa a free shot on goal before Dane Scarlett headed a Jack Iredale cross into the arms of Shamal George a minute or so later. Chaiwa was involved again on 17 minutes when an attempted Saints clearance fell to the midfielder on the edge of the area. He struck it low and with power but it was straight at George who managed to block before the Buddies defence cleared.

Young forced a big save from Sallinger on 24 minutes after being sent down the left by Miguel Freckleton. The forward did well to turn away from the covering defender in the box before seeing his shot saved by the feet of Sallinger. It wouldn't have stood had he scored though with the offside flag being raised. A minute later the striker sent a snapshot wide from 25 yards as the game hit a lull.

The home side opened the scoring with three minutes of normal time remaining in the first-half. A quick corner was played short to Dan Barlaser who swung a cross in to meet Elding who had peeled away from his marker to head into the far corner of the net.

Stephen Robinson made two changes at the interval with Roland Idowu and Mikael Mandron replacing Jacob Devaney and Young. It was the home side that would almost double their advantage five minutes after the restart. Nicky Cadden managed to get in down the right-hand side. There was suspicions of offside but no flagged was raised. The Hibs winger swung the ball to the back post where it found Felix Passlack unmarked at the back stick. He struck onto the post and it bounced clear to the relief of Saints.

The Buddies were denied the chance to draw level on 55 minutes after a wonderful save from Sallinger. Brilliant pressing from Gogic saw Saints win the ball high up in the Hibs half and Mandron ran on to the loose ball. He drove forward before striking from 20 yards. Sallinger did so well to keep the home side ahead as he got a strong hand to turn it over.

Saints made another double substitution before the hour mark with the introduction of Mark O'Hara and Jalmaro Calvin in place of Marcus Fraser and Dan Nlundulu.

Hibs made two changes of their own six minutes later when they brought on Martin Boyle and Ante Suto for Scarlett and Elding. It was Suto who would double Hibs' advantage just three minutes after his arrival when he would force home a low cross from Cadden after George couldn't gather.

Stephen Robinson: It needs to step up

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson has called on his players to react to Wednesday's defeat to Kilmarnock ahead of a tough trip to Easter Road in the William Hill Premiership.

The Buddies travel through to the capital to face Hibernian following a 4-3 loss at Rugby Park. Wednesday's result saw Kilmarnock - who currently occupy the relegation play-off spot - move to within three points of Saints who remain in ninth.

While Saturday's match away to European chasing Hibernian will provide a tough challenge for Robinson's men, the manager has encouraged his side to produce the same type of performance that saw us beat league leaders Hearts last week.

"We've shown when we go to places like Hibs that we can produce results," he said.

We have to produce that same level of commitment and same level of performance. We're in a dogfight with four or five other teams. There's no hiding away from that.

"It needs to now step up. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. If you've made a mistake, you react to it. If you've lost a game, you react to it. This group of players have proved they're a good side. They've proved they can win silverware. They've proved they can beat the top teams in the league. It's now time to step up and be counted in these final games.

"We had a poor result on Wednesday night. You concede four goals, really, really disappointing, individuals not doing their job properly. That's a real frustration for us and it's a frustration obviously for the individuals as well.

"We have to be better than that," he continued.

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson oversees training

"I believe Hibs are a very good side. I thought they were very good against Hearts in stages. I believe they've recruited really, really well. This is a tough game, one of the toughest games of the season that we go to. We have to produce the performance we've done in the past.

We've shown we're capable of that. We've done that against Hearts. We have to have the same level of performance, the same level of commitment, the same level of desire not to concede goals as we did in that game as opposed to Wednesday night. There has to be a reaction to that.

"Then you hope in the coming weeks we get Mark and we get Keanu back and you get the middle of the spine of your team back again. It's a tough game, but one that if we play at the top of the game, we've proved we can beat anybody in the league."

Jake Young comes back into contention as he returns from suspension, while captain Mark O'Hara will be assessed. The manager says Jonah Ayunga will be unavailable for Saturday's trip to face Hibernian at Easter Road and the game comes too soon for Keanu Baccus.

"Jonah's broke down with a calf injury, we're having to have that scanned," he told the media this morning.

"He's only trained one day fully and then pulled up with his calf, so we have to rule out what that is first and foremost so that's a blow.

"Keanu is training, but not fully. He's got the okay to open his legs and sprint properly, which is a problem with tendon injuries, but this would be his first introduction to training today. The Motherwell game still might come a little bit early for him, but we never know. He's such a fit boy, but certainly this will be too early for him.

"Mark has trained a couple of days, so we'll assess Mark. He's obviously been out a long time, so he wouldn't be somebody that goes straight back into the team. Injury-wise, it's not got much clearer. Jake Young will be available again from suspension, so that gives us a little boost in the forward areas anyway."

Keanu Baccus returned to Saints training

The manager also told of how Malik Dijksteel is set for an extended period on the sidelines. The Dutch winger picked up a groin injury in our Scottish Cup Fifth Round win over Airdrieonians and now looks set for surgery.

"It's really bad news, he's probably out for the season. He's torn his groin off the bone and will likely require surgery. He's seeing the specialist in London."

The Buddies saw a five game unbeaten run come to an end after a 4-3 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Wednesday evening. Despite the defeat, Stephen Robinson's men remain in ninth place.

Hibernian go into Saturday's match off the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Hearts in the Edinburgh derby. Their previous outing at Easter Road saw them come from behind late in the match to win 3-2 against Dundee United. That victory has put to an end a run of four without a win in all competitions after draws with Rangers (0-0) and Motherwell (1-1) and defeats to Falkirk (1-4) and Dunfermline (0-1).

David Gray's men sit in fifth place in the William Hill Premiership, level on points with sixth place Falkirk and five behind fourth place Motherwell.

Neither side could be separated when the Buddies visited Easter Road in August. Miguel Freckleton gave Saints the lead, but Rocky Bushiri's equaliser gave the hosts a share of the spoils. Hibs took the points in the last meeting between the two, winning 3-0 at The SMiSA Stadium in November.
