Alex Greive agrees extended contract

We are delighted to announce that Alex Greive has agreed a new two-year deal with the club which keeps him at St Mirren until summer 2024.

The New Zealand striker extends his stay in Paisley after impressing at Saints since joining in January from our partner club Birkhenhead United.

Indeed, it was his early form with the Buddies that saw the 23-year-old earn his first international call-up with New Zealand. He has since gone on to be a regular for the Kiwis – scoring twice in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against New Caledonia as well as starting in their World Cup play-off against Costa Rica last month.

On the domestic front, Alex has scored three goals for the Saints coming in important wins over St Johnstone, Kelty Hearts and Dundee.

Speaking after agreeing the new deal, Alex told stmirren.com: "I'm excited to commit my future here.

I've had a good start and I'm looking forward to building on that.

"I'm still learning every day. I've only been here a short time but I think I've improved a lot and gained a lot of experience.

"It's been really good and I can thank St Mirren enough for giving me that opportunity. For me it's now about repaying that faith.

"I want to kick on with my own footballing ability and contribute with more goals and assists and help the club to get up as high in the table as we can."

Stephen Robinson added: "It was important for us to get him tied down on an extended deal.

Alex has impressed me since I came in. His energy and how he presses gets people off their seats and I think he'll score goals for us.

"He's only been in the country for a few months and I think he will improve the more game time and coaching he gets.

"He's already an international footballer with New Zealand and playing with some good players there too, so we've got high hopes that he will continue to progress."

Last minute Arbroath goal sees St Mirren defeated in Premier Sports Cup opener

St Mirren were beaten by a last-minute goal in the opening Premier Sports Cup match against Arbroath.

Saints had plenty of opportunities in the first competitive game of the new season but couldn't find a route to goal and deep into injury time Arbroath substitution Dylan Paterson netted the winner for the visitors.

Stephen Robinson gave debuts to new signings Trevor Carson, Declan Gallagher, Mark O'Hara, Toyosi Olusanya and Jonah Ayunga, while fellow new boy Ryan Strain was on the bench.

The Buddies almost got off to the perfect just with just three minutes of the clock when Alex Greive met Marcus Fraser's cross from the right but nodded just wide of the right-hand post. The New Zealand international came close again on 18 minutes - this time getting his head on the end of a Scott Tanser ball from the left. Greive rose above his marker but glanced the effort wide.

Greg Kiltie had the ball in the net four minutes later but it came after referee Kevin Clancy had blown for a foul by Ayunga on Arbroath goalkeeper Derek Gaston.

The visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock in the final minute of the first-half when Scott Stewart cracked the post from 20 yards.

The manager reacted to the goalless first-half by bringing on St Mirren Youth Academy graduate Jay Henderson coming on for Olusanya. And Saints dominated the early second-half proceedings with Greive, Henderson and Joe Shaughnessy all having big opportunities to put the Buddies ahead within the first 10 minutes of the restart.

Greive fired over from close-range after bringing the ball down well on his chest two minutes into the second 45, while Henderson clipped inches over the bar on 52 minutes as he looked to have an immediate impact. Saints skipper Shaughnessy came the closest a minute later when he crashed a header off the bar.

Gallagher almost opened the scoring on his debut when he rose the highest to meet a corner on the hour mark, but his effort was headed off the line.

Kieran Offord was introduced to the action on 76 minutes and his brilliant run fashioned a good chance for O'Hara five minutes later. The Saints youth academy graduate beat a few Arbroath players as he drifted in from the left before teeing the ball up for O'Hara who struck wide.

It seemed as though the game would head to penalties for a bonus point, but in injury time Paterson nipped in at the back post to score for the visitors and give them the victory.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium

    BY ROAD

Follow signs for Paisley & Glasgow Airport. Exit the M8 at Junction 29 (St James’ Interchange) which is just after Glasgow Airport turn off if travelling east to west. Be careful not to exit on to the A737 which is signposted for Irvine. It is best to stay in the middle lane when passing the Airport as this leads naturally to the St James’ Interchange exit.

At the interchange take the first left onto a dual carriageway with some football parks on the left hand side. Follow this road and after a sharp right hand bend you should now be in Greenock Road. Then take your first right on to Clark Street and drive to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the stadium on the opposite side of the road.

    BY RAIL

Get train from Paisley Gilmour Street to Paisley St James – exit from the station is straight onto Greenhill Road where the stadium is facing you. To plan your journey by rail with Scotrail please click HERE.

    BY BUS

Most buses will stop at Paisley Cross or Mill Street, from both you will see the Paisley Town Hall. From the Town Hall cross the High Street towards the Piazza Shopping Centre, when acoss walk towards the town centre until you come to Gilmour Street. Turn right on to Gilmour Street and walk towards the railway station which is about 150 yards away. From there you can get train to Paisley St James or if you prefer to walk the following routes are advised by the police:

Home fans: cross road to the left on to St James Street – follow through up Underwood Road then turn right at Greenhill Road where stadium is 200 yards further along the road. Access to the Main Stand is from Greenhill Road and the South and West Stands will be accessed from Drums Avenue.

Away fans: cross road to Love Street continue up the street till you come to Albion Street where you will turn left. Follow Albion Street until you come to the junction with Greenock Road where you will turn right. Cross the road then walk about 200 yards before taking your first left on to Clark Street. #HelpABuddie

Help a Buddie is a brand new initiative where St Mirren supporters have the chance to purchase and donate a match ticket for those less fortunate.

With the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand now retained for ALL home matches in 2022/23, we want to give as many Saints the opportunity to come and be part of the St Mirren Family.

Each £25 ticket bought will be shared amongst some of the most vulnerable in our community and give them a chance to come along to the SMiSA Stadium where they might not have had the opportunity before.

The Help A Buddie scheme will run for the entirety of the 2022/23 season and with your help we can hopefully welcome thousands of people to St Mirren as we prove what an important role our club plays in the community. Click HERE to Help A Buddie.

#OurHome

Following our fans’ survey, St Mirren is delighted to announce that it has been decided to retain the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand for St Mirren supporters at all home league matches in the upcoming season.

There was a significant response to our survey and we would like to thank everyone that gave up their time to take part in the survey. A majority of those who responded told us they wished to see home supporters retain the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand for all home league matches for the coming season.

Beyond the 2022/23 season, season tickets in the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand will include all home league matches. However, we hope season ticket holders will 'top up' their season tickets for the upcoming campaign so they can attend all matches in their chosen seats.

Season ticket holders in the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand are required to make a one-off payment of £30 for adults or £15 for concessions if they wish to add these matches and guarantee their own seat for fixtures against Celtic and Rangers in the 2022/23 season.

Family tickets will be an additional cost of £60 covering the cost of the two adult tickets.

For comparison if an adult wishes to attend these three matches based on walk-up prices it would cost £96 in total, therefore with this upgrade you are saving £66.

Please note from season 2023/24 these games will be included with all season tickets as standard and future pricing will reflect this change.

For this season we strongly urge that you support the club by upgrading your ticket to access these games. The decision to retain all three stands for St Mirren supporters for all home league matches was ultimately driven by our fans and that’s what’s allowed the Board to make this decision.

To upgrade your ticket please add your details into THIS FORM

Someone from the club will contact you in due course for payment to upgrade.

Please note if you do not fill in the form and make payment by 29th July you will not have access to these matches at the reduced rate of £30 per adult for this upcoming season and will have to pay £32 per match. Similarly concessions and under 12's will have to pay £22 per match if their season ticket is not upgraded.

We ask that you do not contact us regarding the upgrade once you have completed the form so that the ticket office can manage these in a timely manner.

Further information

To simplify and streamline our season ticket offering for the 2022-2023 season, we have undertaken a collaborative review across the organisation. You will note that the categories available are now Adult, Concession (including Over 65s, 13–17-Year-olds, Students, and our new concession supporting those who are Unemployed), Family, U12, Ambulant and Wheelchair. We ask that you select the corresponding category when you renew your seat(s).

We want to remain competitive on the pitch and give the manager the best resources we possibly can in our quest for a top six position. After freezing pricing for the past three seasons, we have decided to increase prices to help meet the rising costs that are affecting all businesses and individuals.

Rest assured this decision was not made lightly and we have endeavoured to reduce the impact as much as possible. However, we continue to offer great value for money in comparison with other Premiership clubs.

Up Next: St Mirren v Arbroath (9th July)

St Mirren are in competitive action this weekend as the Premier Sports Cup gets underway on Saturday.

Stephen Robinson's men host Arbroath at the SMiSA Stadium as the 2022/23 season begins.

Saints have played three pre-season friendlies in the lead up to Saturday's match - defeating Crusaders (3-0) and Linfield (2-1) during a training camp in Northern Ireland before hosting Northampton Town at the SMiSA Stadium on Tuesday night.

New signings Trevor Carson, Declan Gallagher, Ryan Strain, Mark O'Hara, Toyosi Olusanya and Jonah Ayunga are all in line to make their debuts for the Saints on Saturday, but the Buddies still await the arrival of Australian midfielder Keanu Baccus.

Arbroath faced Angus sides Brechin and Montrose in their build-up to Saturday's match. Dick Campbell's side will be looking to build on a successful year last season where they finished second in the cinch Championship - just agonisingly missing out on promotion to the top-flight.

Previous

This is the first time these two sides have faced each other since April 2003 with Saints defeating the Red Lichties 1-0 at Love Street in the old First Division.

The only meeting of the two in League Cup action was in 1990 when Tomas Stickroth scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Saints.

The Buddies have only lost one of their last 12 against Arbroath - a 3-2 loss at Love Street in 2002 in the First Division.

Kevin Clancy is the referee on Saturday. He's assisted by Daniel McFarlane and Gary Hilland.

St Mirren beaten by Northampton Town

St Mirren were defeated 3-1 by Northampton in their final pre-season game before competitive action begins this weekend.

The Buddies had got off to an ideal start when Mark O'Hara put Saints ahead early in the first-half. But Northampton equalised soon after before scoring two late goals to secure their win at the SMiSA Stadium.

Saints hit the front on 14 minutes. Marcus Fraser's cross picked out Alex Greive who laid it off perfectly for O'Hara with the midfielder driving low into the net with laser precision from 20 yards.

The visitors equalised seven minutes later when Ben Fox forcing over the line after a stramash in the Saints six-yard box.

Fox almost put Northampton ahead with just two minutes of the half remaining, but the effort was well saved by Trevor Carson who got a strong hand to turn it away.

Both sides made a raft of changes and it was Saints substitute goalkeeper Peter Urminsky who made a wonderful save to deny Joshua Tomlinson on 72 minutes. Three minutes later Kieran Offord almost put Saints ahead with a rasping strike from the edge of the area the flew just by the post.

Northampton went ahead of 77 minutes when Danny Hylton scored from close-range. And seven minutes later the visitors sealed their win with Hylton scoring his second from the penalty spot after being fouled by Murray Campbell.

Offord could have reduced the deficit four minutes from time, but the Academy graduate was denied by an outstanding save from Cobblers goalkeeper Maxted.

It's competitive action for Saints next with Stephen Robinson's side facing Arbroath at the SMiSA Stadium in Premier Sports Cup action on Saturday.
