St Mirren edged out in final match of 2025

St Mirren were edged out 2-1 by Rangers at Ibrox in our final match of 2025.

Goals from Thelo Aasgaard and Emmanuel Fernandez either side of half-time gave the home side the impetus. Marcus Fraser saw a penalty saved by Jack Butland with less than 15 minutes remaining, though Saints would pull one back through Mikael Mandron to set up a big finish. The Buddies couldn't find an equaliser though and saw their unbeaten December run come to an end.

Stephen Robinson made two changes for Saints with Jayden Richardson and Mandron coming into the starting 11 in place of Conor McMenamin and Dan Nlundulu.

The home side dominated possession in the early proceedings but didn't create anything to trouble Shamal George in the Saints goal. The Buddies carved open the best early opportunity just after 20 minutes when Mandron slipped the ball through for Richardson. His effort was tame and straight at Butland with the offside flag raised in any case.

Rangers came close a few minutes later when Djeidi Gassama got to the byline and cut it back for Nicolas Raskin. The Belgian midfielder slid it inches wide of the far post in what was the best chance to that point.

Jonah Ayunga won a free-kick in a good area 25 yards from goal, but Declan John sent his effort high and wide just before 30 minutes. Saints were then forced into a first-half change when Ayunga went down injured deep in the Rangers half with just under 10 minutes of the opening 45 remaining. He was replaced by Nlundulu.

The home side broke the deadlock soon after. A short corner saw Jayden Meghoma swing the ball into the box to meet Aasgaard who headed home. Rangers almost added a quickfire second goal with George at full-stretch to push a Mikey Moore volley onto the bar just a minute later.

The Buddies started the second-half brightly with good running from Roland Idowu seeing the midfielder make his way into the Rangers box and pulling it back for Mandron. The forward got a powerful shot away but was denied by a terrific save from Butland. Nlundulu tried to follow up though couldn't force home before the offside flag was raised.

But despite Saints' early pressure after the break, it was Rangers who would extend their lead on 52 minutes. Youssef Chermiti's cross from the left found Fernandez who slid it low through the legs of George to double the hosts' lead.

Saints were presented with a big opportunity to reduce the deficit with less than 15 minutes remaining when a VAR check saw us given a penalty for a handball against Fernandez. But the Buddies couldn't convert with Fraser's attempt saved by Butland.

The Buddies would pull a goal back with eight minutes remaining. Miguel Freckleton rose the highest to meet a cross but was denied by another outstanding Butland stop. However, Mandron was on hand to force home on the follow up.

Try as they might, the Saints couldn't find the equaliser and that saw their five match unbeaten run in the month of December come to an end as 2025 drew to a close.

Robinson's men will look to get back to picking up points with a run of four league matches over 11 days starting with a trip to Fir Park to face Motherwell on Saturday.

St Mirren drew 0-0 with Kilmarnock at The SMiSA Stadium on Saturday to stretch their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions. Saints remain in ninth position in the William Hill Premiership.

Rangers moved up to third in the table with a 1-0 victory over Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday. A second-half goal from Thelo Aasgaard was enough to give Danny Rohl's side all three points and see them leapfrog the Steelmen in the league. That win came off the back of Rangers' first league defeat since the appointment of Danny Rohl in October with the Ibrox men falling to a 2-1 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle prior to Christmas.

Saints are unbeaten in their last four matches against the Ibrox side, winning two and drawing two. It finished 1-1 in the the only meeting between the two sides this season. Jonah Ayunga opened the scoring for the Buddies before a late deflected strike from Findlay Curtis saw Rangers take a share of the spoils.

Goals from Mikael Mandron and Toyosi Olusanya saw the Buddies win 2-0 on our last trip to Ibrox back in February. The two second-half strikes gave Saints a first victory in Govan since 1991.

St Mirren frustrated by stubborn Kilmarnock as points shared

St Mirren couldn't break down a stubborn Kilmarnock side as our final home match of 2025 finished goalless. Saints showed plenty of endeavour and intent, but were left frustrated by Kris Doolan's side who took a share of the spoils back to Ayrshire.

Stephen Robinson named the same 11 that defeated Livingston 1-0 at The SMiSA Stadium the previous week.

It was the visitors who threatened early with Tyreece John-Jules seeing a shot blocked just five minutes into the game. Lewis Mayo forced a terrific save from Shamal George on 17 minutes with the Saints stopper getting two strong hands behind the 20 yard strike.

The Buddies' best opportunity to that point came on 23 minutes when Jonah Ayunga met Declan John's corner at the near post. Kilmarnock goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi punched away to stop it crossing the line. Roland Idowu wasn't too far away 10 minutes later with a shot from 20 yards drifting just wide of the near post. As the game headed to its interval, John swung a decent ball into the centre of the box where Alex Gogic rose to meet it. But the Cypriot couldn't get enough purchase on the ball which allowed Oluwayemi to gather with ease.

Dan Nlundulu was agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock on the hour mark. Substitute Jayden Richardson found the striker a few yards from goal. The connection wasn't what he would have hoped for even though Oluwayemi was forced into a brilliant save to keep it scoreless. Mikael Mandron headed over from the resulting corner.

Saints huffed and puffed in the final stages as they searched for a breakthrough, but came up against a resolute Kilmarnock side that refused to be beaten as the game ended goalless.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium

    BY ROAD

Follow signs for Paisley & Glasgow Airport. Exit the M8 at Junction 29 (St James’ Interchange) which is just after Glasgow Airport turn off if travelling east to west. Be careful not to exit on to the A737 which is signposted for Irvine. It is best to stay in the middle lane when passing the Airport as this leads naturally to the St James’ Interchange exit.

At the interchange take the first left onto a dual carriageway with some football parks on the left hand side. Follow this road and after a sharp right hand bend you should now be in Greenock Road. Then take your first right on to Clark Street and drive to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the stadium on the opposite side of the road.

    BY RAIL

Get train from Paisley Gilmour Street to Paisley St James – exit from the station is straight onto Greenhill Road where the stadium is facing you. To plan your journey by rail with Scotrail please click HERE.

    BY BUS

Most buses will stop at Paisley Cross or Mill Street, from both you will see the Paisley Town Hall. From the Town Hall cross the High Street towards the Piazza Shopping Centre, when acoss walk towards the town centre until you come to Gilmour Street. Turn right on to Gilmour Street and walk towards the railway station which is about 150 yards away. From there you can get train to Paisley St James or if you prefer to walk the following routes are advised by the police:

Home fans: cross road to the left on to St James Street – follow through up Underwood Road then turn right at Greenhill Road where stadium is 200 yards further along the road. Access to the Main Stand is from Greenhill Road and the South and West Stands will be accessed from Drums Avenue.

Away fans: cross road to Love Street continue up the street till you come to Albion Street where you will turn left. Follow Albion Street until you come to the junction with Greenock Road where you will turn right. Cross the road then walk about 200 yards before taking your first left on to Clark Street.
