A message from Gunni Torfason

My Dear Friends at St Mirren FC,

It was a true honour to be a guest in the boardroom on Saturday night at the match and to meet so many of you in the Club 1877 and corporate hospitality rooms. Me, my wife Jakobina and our sons Nikulas and Isak, would like to thank you for your warm reception. After 34 years, the occasion was especially meaningful for me.

Our special thanks go to Jim Irvine, John Needham, and Tony Fitzpatrick for their generous hospitality, with everyone at the football club who made our visit so memorable along with the staff. It was a privilege to meet Sir Alex Ferguson in the boardroom, chatting, and must say his taste in red wine is exceptional and was a pleasure to share a glass - cheers.

To all the fans at St Mirren FC, I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful reception we received. All the best to our team and everyone at St Mirren FC. Keep the faith — the results will come our way. Our sincere respect and gratitude to everyone. Until the next time.

St Mirren saddened by passing of Paul McInytre

St Mirren Football Club is saddened by the passing of former player Paul McInytre at the age of 59.

Paul played for Saints during a five year stay at Love Street between 1991 and 1996. Joining the club from Maybole in March 1991, Paul made 152 appearances for the Buddies and scored 11 goals. Paul was a part of the side that defeated Rangers 1-0 at Ibrox in November 1991 and scored an extra-time winner against Airdrieonians to send us into the semi-final of the B&Q Cup in 1993.

A midfielder, Paul departed the club in July 1996 to join Stranraer. He would go on to have spells at Clydebank, Partick Thistle and Cumnock Juniors.

The thoughts of everyone at St Mirren are with Paul's loved ones at this sad time.

Richard King appeal successful

St Mirren Football Club is pleased to confirm that our appeal against the red card shown to Richard King during Saturday’s match against Motherwell has been successful and the defender will be available for this weekend’s match away to Livingston.

While we are pleased with this outcome, we are frustrated by the decision taken on the field and the requirement to go to an appeals process.

We are determined to work together with the Scottish FA’s refereeing department to ensure standards will improve for the benefit of our supporters and the wider Scottish game.

St Mirren FC can confirm that we have today submitted an appeal to the Scottish FA disciplinary panel over the red card shown to Richard King during Saturday's match against Motherwell.

Saints supporter Craig Ferguson embarks on Tartan Trek

St Mirren supporter Craig Ferguson is embarking on an incredible 3,000 mile endurance challenge to raise money for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).

Craig was a guest of the club on Saturday ahead of 'The Tartan Trek' that will see him walk from Los Angeles to Boston to raise funds and awareness for mental health support in Scotland.

The Saints fan begins his challenge today, during which he will complete a full marathon every day for 104 consecutive days. His goal is to reach Boston in time for the Scotland national team's opening FIFA World Cup 2026 fixture against Haiti on 14th June.

Craig has set an ambitious target of raising £1million of funding for SAMH and you can help by donating HERE.

Everyone at St Mirren Football Club wishes Craig the very best of luck as he sets off on his challenge.

Disappointing night for Saints as we're beaten by Motherwell

St Mirren were beaten heavily in the William Hill Premiership as Motherwell ran out 5-0 winners at The SMiSA Stadium.

The Steelmen were deserved winners as they dominated the proceedings on a poor evening for Saints who saw themselves reduced to 10 men when Richard King was sent off in the second-half. The red card had no bearing on the contest though with Motherwell in control.

Manager Stephen Robinson made two changes to his side with captain Mark O'Hara returning to the starting line-up for the first time since November, while Roland Idowu also came in from the start. Saints changed system as we moved to a 4-2-3-1 with Idowu, Killian Phillips and Conor McMenamin playing behind Jake Young as the lone striker.

McMenamin had the first opportunity of the match with just two minutes played. The Northern Irishman forced a save from 'Well goalkeeper Calum Ward with Idowu unfortunately slipping which denied him the chance to get on to the loose ball. The visitors then came close to breaking the deadlock just a minute later when Emmanuel Longelo swung a brilliant ball into the box where it met Tawanda Maswanhise who knocked inches by the far post.

Motherwell took the lead on 14 minutes when Elijah Just struck home the opener. The New Zealand forward shot through the legs of Miguel Freckleton and found the far corner.

Saints tried to get themselves back on level terms and King did well down the right-side. The Jamaican lifted the ball over Stephen Welsh and raced on to the ball before sending across for Young. His attempt was deflected wide of target.

The visitors doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark when Maswanhise scored from the penalty spot. The striker found himself on the end of a ball from Just and was brought down by Shamal George. He stepped up from 12 yards and made no mistake to make it 2-0.

The Buddies' night looked like it had gone from bad to worse when referee Calum Scott brandished a straight red card at Alex Gogic. There didn't appear to be much in the Cypriot's challenge and that was confirmed when the red was downgraded to a yellow after a VAR check.

Stephen Robinson responded by making three changes at the interval. That saw the introduction of Marcus Fraser, Keanu Baccus and Mikael Mandron in place of Jacob Devaney, McMenamin and Idowu. But Saints fell further behind at the beginning of the second-half. Ibrahim Said's deflected effort came off Fraser and evaded George's grasp as it found the net. And if that wasn't punishment enough, the Buddies wee then reduced to 10 men with King shown a straight red card on 52 minutes after a coming together with Callum Slattery. Again, there didn't appear to be much to it, but the decision stood and this one wouldn't be overturned.

Longelo added a fourth for Motherwell just before the hour and while it was initially ruled out for offside, the goal stood after a lengthy VAR check. Substitute Eythor Bjørgolfsson made it five just a few minutes after his introduction when he volleyed home a cross from the right to cap off a miserable night for the Buddies.

Killian Phillips contract extended until 2027

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to confirm that we have extended Killian Phillips’ contract until summer 2027.

Saints have moved to trigger a clause in Killian’s contract that keeps him at the Buddies for a further year.

The Irishman has been a popular figure at the Buddies since moving to the club from Crystal Palace in August 2024. In his maiden season, Killian’s impressive form saw him win the club’s Player of the Year award for 2024/25.

"I'm buzzing," Killian said.

"This club has given me so much, so another year of giving back here, I'm looking forward to it.

I'm loving it, and I love the group we have here. Obviously, it's been a bit of a struggle at times this season, but I'm looking to put it right and finish the season strong. I'm pretty confident that we can get going and get a run together."

Manager Stephen Robinson added: "Killian is a big part of what we’ve done.

"It’s good that we have him. He has attracted a lot of the attention over the last few weeks, but we’ll do it on our terms. It shows the quality we’ve brought in that people are looking at.

"You see his energy on the pitch and his connection with the fans. We have a quiet squad, Killian is one the boys that does talk and does try to lead. He’s a pivotal part of what we do and he’ll certainly be important for the run in."

Tunmise Sobowale joins Shamrock Rovers on loan

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Tunmise Sobowale has joined Shamrock Rovers on loan until the summer.

The Irish defender joined Saints in summer 2025 and has made eight appearances for the Buddies, seven of which have come from the bench.

Everyone at St Mirren wishes Tunmise the best of luck during his time with the League of Ireland side.
